Period talk: Questions and advice

Let me give you the rundown of what's going on...
Basically, I'm 15.5 years old. My period started when I was 13 and everything was totally fine—regular, you know? 🙄 Then, towards the end of the first semester of high school (around November), I went through this incredibly stressful stretch because of exams. I literally wasn't sleeping at all, just constant stress... and after a full physical, my period was already a month late. I told my doctor, explaining that it was probably just the stress messing things up, but it didn't really reset. I didn't get it again until January, and when I finally did, it was barely anything for 3 or 4 days, then I had two more light ones where they lasted maybe 2 days (and the third day was basically nothing). After that, I went from March to June without getting anything at all. And now, for about two weeks, I haven't had a period, just this weird spotting that looks more like discharge with a tiny bit of blood. On top of all that, my skin has gotten so bad during these irregular cycles that I can't even look at myself in the mirror. 😲 At first, I thought it was just the foundation and concealer I was forced to wear because I felt so self-conscious, but now that it's summer break and I'm not wearing makeup or dealing with exam stress, things still aren't great. It’s not as bad as before, but I still can't deal with the fact that I went from having clear skin to this mess. 😱
I've told my mom about everything, obviously, but she keeps saying it's totally normal and that it'll level out once my hormones settle, but I don't know... I have my doubts. Ugh, I'm just so frustrated.🙂
Yeah, your mom is right about one thing—it is definitely a hormone issue. But honestly, she’s being a little irresponsible, too. I went through the exact same thing at your age, but my mom actually took me by the hand and brought me to a gynecologist. Turns out, my left ovary was full of cysts—basically PCOS. That kind of stuff is usually treated with hormone therapy. I ended up being on birth control for years as a way to manage my ovaries. Once I started, my cycle regulated itself, and the acne and extra hair growth just vanished. If you don't treat something like this, it can actually get complicated and make it harder to get pregnant down the road. Go see a gynecologist. The sooner you start, the better it'll be for you. Every woman needs a good gynecologist, a good dentist, and a good hairstylist—and you should see them regularly.
