Yeah, absolutely. It’s incredibly cost-effective...

If you ask me, there are really only 3 cards worth looking at right now $667 because they hit that sweet spot for me:

EVGA GTX 470 - $633 - I've got this one arriving in just 3 days... it’s definitely the heavy hitter here, with absolutely killer cooling and some seriously impressive overclocking potential if you're feeling adventurous.
ASUS GTX 470 - $600. This one should be hitting my doorstep in about 2 days.
PowerColor HD 5850 Vapor-X - $533. It’s possible AMD might have dropped the ball on this one, but then again, I see Newegg has the HD5850 listed for around $240, so at that price point, it's kind of a no-brainer...

It’s worth mentioning that in quite a few of the benchmarks, the Radeon HD 6850 actually showed up with 1120 Stock Symbol instead of the expected 960SP... though, naturally, AMD is out there insisting that this was all just some unintentional oversight on their part 😁

by the way, if you happen to pick up an Radeon HD 6850 that turns out to have those 1120SP units, they suggest you should just head back to the retailer to swap it out so you can get the proper version with the lower SP count 😬

Just head on over to Micro Center and politely ask if you can pay the difference for a higher-end model, and honestly, that should be the end of it... I really don't think they're going to give you any trouble about it. But if it's Lost we're talking about, then just 😁

Haha, you’ve got a point there, I definitely don't have two separate monitors just dedicated to the CPU, though I know plenty of folks out there who absolutely do... 😁

But then again, you see these people dropping $1,500 on a high-end rig, only to stare at a tiny 19-inch TN panel for $300... it just doesn't make any sense, really... 😁

If you don't have the budget for a top-tier processor, then honestly, there’s absolutely no point in even looking at dual GPUs... 😛 I'm just kidding, of course, though I suppose what I really mean is that if you're lacking raw horsepower, you won't see much of a benefit from jumping into SLI or Crossfire anyway...

In maybe a month or two, once the prices for the HD6850 and the GTX 460 finally settle down, picking up a pair of cards for CF or SLI would be an absolute steal for anyone rocking a decent motherboard paired with an i5 or an i7 processor...

And as for $387, they’ve actually got a Gigabyte 460 GTX in there that's been overclocked with some seriously top-tier cooling, which, let me tell you, makes the performance significantly better than what you'd get from an HD5770... 🙂

As far as $307 goes, I honestly don't think you could find a better option out there... 😁

Regarding the noise, it's actually quite whisper-quiet, though I'm not exactly someone who obsessively measures decibels... if you look at the various reviews online, they generally suggest it stays under 500-600 rpm until you start pulling more than 300W, which is pretty solid...

And the cables? They're actually quite long, which is always a relief when you're routing things through a tight case...

It's on a PCI Express slot, the CPU is some dual-core Phenom, he's running a Gigabyte AM2+ socket motherboard (the GA-M52L-S3P), and the power supply is a Neo MS 550W (honestly, what a joke...), he plays at 1920*1080 resolution (doesn't need everything cranked to high), and an AMD card would be really nice

Maybe try hunting down a used HD4850... they usually go for about $167. Alternatively, you might find an ATI Radeon HD 4830 for $133, a GTS 512 8800 for around 400-$167, or even an 8800 GT 512 for $133.
