Well, looking at things right now, I have to say you're totally full of it... you really pulled a fast one on us all...☕

It looks like it won't actually arrive until Monday since they don't handle deliveries on Saturdays at all...

I have a hunch it’s priced so low because high-end potentiometers usually run you at least 400 bucks $200—assuming you want a color display, of course... but since this one actually comes equipped with a card reader, I think that explains why it's such a steal...

It should be arriving tomorrow, so I'll be sure to check back in once I have some photos and can share my first impressions...

Plus, the price point is just so low... which honestly makes me a little skeptical about the quality🤷

So, does anyone here happen to have this specific potentiometer handy? I just pulled the trigger on an order for one, and I’m sitting here wondering if I actually made a massive mistake or if I’ve actually scored a winner... 😁

Of course it’s possible, though you have to be careful because things can definitely go south if you aren't staying on top of things... 🙂

I sure am 🙂

The Core temp reading gives you the actual temperature you need to worry about. Honestly, seeing 62 degrees under a heavy load isn't even a cause for concern... now, if you were hitting 75 or 85 degrees constantly, then we’d have a real situation on our hands...

Intel suggests keeping things under 61... though at the end of the day, that's really just a recommendation...

Just to give you some perspective, when I'm running my Core 2 Duo with the TT Big Typhoon—which, by the way, is significantly quieter and much more efficient than the standard stock cooler—clocked at 3.0GHz, I'm sitting at about 36 at idle and roughly 47 under load... it's only once I start pushing the overclock past 3.45GHz that the temps actually climb north of 61...🙂

I might be getting ahead of myself here, but I think😁

darkwalker54 said:The system seems rock solid during operation. My only question is regarding Orthos—when I was setting up the sensors, I opted to monitor everything: voltage, temperature, fan speeds, the whole nine yards. I wonder if selecting all those extra parameters played a role? By default, it’s usually just set to temperature, and as long as I'm offline, everything runs perfectly without any errors, but the moment I spend about twenty minutes browsing the web, an error pops up.

It shouldn't matter at all which specific sensors you decided to track... honestly, it sounds like something else is just fundamentally misconfigured somewhere deep in the settings. But hey, my philosophy is pretty simple: as long as you aren't staring down a Blue Screen of Death, you're basically golden...🙂

Heh, sounds like something’s definitely a bit wonky under the hood! But honestly, if your rig is running smooth and staying stable during your heavy lifting, I'd say just let it be and don't sweat the small stuff too much...
Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
When you boot him up with the overclocking settings pushed high, does everything still run smoothly on your end?

northerncrane33 said:I'm lost, is that actually a bad thing???
First time I've ever heard of that happening...

Well, I wouldn't say it's "bad" per se... but man, it is incredibly annoying! You see, it's one of those quirky things where a stock configuration on a Gigabyte board boots up just fine, but the second you try to overclock it, everything goes sideways twice over...😉

With most other motherboards out there on the market, you just don't run into this headache, because they tend to boot up perfectly every single time without any drama at all...

northerncrane33 said:well, that’s just standard behavior for Gigabyte hardware...

🙂 hahaha, oh man! seriously though... I definitely wouldn't want to deal with a double boot sequence like that. 😁

That's just how it goes, I suppose... Gigabyte gives you those incredible overclocking ceilings, but you kind of have to accept a little bit of quirkiness along the way...😉

Yeah... I mean, honestly? Just let him browse the web... don't go overwhelming him by loading up his device with all those different apps right away

Everything seems to be looking pretty good so far... I would just suggest running a bit more stress testing to be absolutely certain, specifically keeping a close eye on those temperatures to make sure they don't climb past 61 degrees Celsius. You might want to pull up Orthofix, select the option for small FFTs, and just let it run through its paces for a few hours... if you don't see any error messages popping up and that temperature stays safely under 61, then you can rest easy knowing everything is totally fine!

Are you actually out of your mind? Running a CPU at 1.8V with just the stock cooler attached??????

Even if you’ve got a high-end liquid cooling setup installed, you really shouldn't be pushing past 1.7V.... seriously...

If you want that processor to actually survive longer than a single season, don't you dare go over 1.6V... ever...😉

Maybe take a breather and dial back the excitement regarding these voltage levels...
Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
Man, you should just go for it... crank that thing up to 3.5GHz... just purely for the thrill of seeing if it actually holds...

Honestly, you shouldn't even need to mess with the voltage to hit 3GHz... in like 99% of cases, it'll just handle it smoothly...

The 16,390s really can't be beat, especially if you actually manage to get those Ballistix sticks...😛

Even if he gained 0.3 seconds, what would that even accomplish? If his processor starts pushing past 400 FBI... now *that* would be quite the undertaking...🙂

northerncrane33 said:I honestly think you can hit that 3GHz mark using just the stock cooler and the factory voltage settings, though I suppose it depends on how much luck you're feeling like having today... if the silicon lottery is actually on your side for once!😉
If you want to get things moving, just head right into your BIOS settings and set that memory to 900MHz—basically, if you've got your FBI at 300, you'll want to toggle that 3.00 option...
And that’s really all there is to it, so please, do reach out if you run into any more trouble at all...👍

Are we really looking to settle some scores in the super league again? Because, if I recall correctly... you were the one who totally folded last time!😁

Make sure you set that PCI-E frequency to a locked 100MHz...

As for the Performance Enhance setting, try switching it from Turbo to one of the other options... I don't have a P35 board on hand to check the exact names, so you'll just have to see what else is listed there...

For the DDR2/DDR3 overvoltage control, go ahead and bump it up from Normal to maybe +0.3V...

Then, for the CPU voltage control, switch it from Auto to Manual and try something like 1.4125V...

You'll want to adjust the memory ratio relative to the Federal Bureau of Investigation so that your RAM stays sitting somewhere between 700 and 900MHz...

Try pushing the Federal Bureau of investigation up to, say, 3.1GHz (which would be 310FSB) using that voltage we talked about, but just be really careful to ensure the memory doesn't climb past 900MHz...

Set your memory latencies to 2T, specifically 5-5-5-18...

If everything runs smoothly and holds steady... let me know all your final frequencies so we can look into tightening those memory latencies or tweaking the voltage if we need to...

To keep an eye on the Temperature, use Core Temp... there are a few different versions out there... check it while you're idling and then again under a heavy load. You might want to download Orthos or just run Prime twice to really stress things out, and while the program is hammering away at the processor... that's when you check the Temperature under load... 😉
