Fainted during a blood draw in Health ·
So, I just had some blood drawn for a COVID antibody test. Honestly? I almost passed out right there in the chair. Still—I guess it’s an improvement over my last physical back in 2021, when I actually slipped off the exam table and hit the floor.
Maybe they took a smaller sample this time than they did during the last checkup.

I managed to stumble my way out of the clinic, sat down on a stone wall outside, and slowly started feeling human again. Being stuck in those cramped, enclosed medical offices is absolutely brutal for me.

At this rate, the only way they'll get a clean draw without me fainting is if they hike up to a mountain peak in the Rockies to do it.

Do these smart scales—you know, the ones that claim to track body fat percentage, water weight, muscle mass, all that junk—actually mean anything at all?
Sometimes the numbers they spit out just feel completely off base.

It's a figure of speech. What I mean is—you can get this workout done anywhere you want. You aren't tethered to some overpriced gym or stuck waiting for specific machines.

Since she’s never really done any training or anything before this, honestly, the easiest way to start is just doing calf raises. Nothing fancy—just having her steady herself against a wall or something. She could knock out 30 sets a day if she wanted to. In the elevator, in the bathroom, whenever—it doesn't matter. Just a heads-up though: those muscles are definitely going to be sore at first. Like, seriously sore. But after a while, the pain dies down.
Winter training plan - any tips? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
During the winter months, my stationary bike is basically my primary heating system. I set it up right next to the sliding glass doors and crack them open just a tiny bit—it creates this perfect little hybrid microclimate where a bit of that crisp outdoor air drifts in while I'm working up a sweat. Once I've actually managed to warm myself up on the bike, I’ll move the workout elsewhere in the house...

I mean, honestly, if it isn't absolutely pouring rain, I'll just take my road bike out for a spin outside—wrapped up in every layer I own, obviously—and then head back inside to finish my session.

Since he’s gone up by about 18 pounds, hitting the pavement for a run like that—it’s honestly asking for an injury... might end up with a nasty sprain if he isn't careful.
On my setup, I’ve got the front at 2x: 26/38
The back is 10x.

In the original configuration, it was 3x10, but I swapped things around on the front.

Honestly, I’ve never run into an issue on the climbs. For how I actually ride this bike, that 2x10 setup feels just right—and most of my riding is strictly uphill anyway. I usually start at sea level, crank it up to about 4,500 feet where I spend half an hour grinding, and then fly back down to zero. The incline averages around 6-8%, depending on whatever route I pick that day. I always try to stick to moderate gravel paths; I can't stand those deep, loose trails where you're constantly fighting the terrain and messing with your tire pressure just to stay upright.
If your riding style matches mine, just try swapping out the front chainrings. It's way cheaper than going through the hassle of replacing both the front and the rear sets...
Look, I'm just a recreational rider—cycling is my third favorite hobby, behind everything else. But if you're some kind of elite pro in a Cross Country race, there are definitely better, more high-end solutions out there than what I'm running.
Leaving the city: Moving to a house in the country in Miscellaneous ·
I know this one couple out there with two kids—they actually decided to ditch the city life for some remote rural spot, basically a tiny town where you barely see a soul.
When the kids were still little, just running around preschool age, they stayed out in the sticks full-time. But now that the kids are hitting elementary school, they’ve started playing it smart—they rent an apartment in the city during the school year so one parent can stay close to them for classes.
They also manage to squeeze in a few trips across Europe whenever they get the chance.
It’s definitely a bit of a makeshift lifestyle, honestly—lots of improvising—but hey, they’re doing well for themselves.
Terrible experience with PayPal in Miscellaneous ·
I ran into some issues myself when my card on file expired—total headache—but after a few tries, I finally got everything sorted out.
It’s just one of those things that happens whenever PayPal tries to route the payment through Maui...
