I'm just assuming that Matthew Anderson4 and Larry Fox5 have already headed down to the state fair with their little signs and that #refugeeswelcome Quote 🍿
You did a great job breaking down the timeline here.👍 All this info is out there for anyone with half a brain to find, but most people just stick to their local news bubbles and moan about how tragic everything is for the Syrians, acting like nobody cares. The big headline recently was actually some Canadian reporter 🤦 . I’ll be honest—I didn't give much of a damn about what was happening in the Middle East until this whole asylum seeker hysteria kicked off, but over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to stay informed, and frankly, I can't get my head straight. This European Union is more disorganized than our own dysfunctional government. There have been 1.8 million refugees sitting in Turkey since this mess started back in 2012—and only about 200k of them are even in camps—yet Europe seems totally clueless about what to do with the people crossing over into Greece (the distance from Turkey to Lesvos is roughly the same as going from San Francisco to Monterey). Did it ever occur to anyone that these people might decide to head toward Europe because they're tired of waiting in Turkey? Or that the Greeks, despite all their own issues, don't actually have the resources or the capacity to handle this alone? Instead, when it comes time to actually solve the problem, they just spend their time bickering over which country has to take how many Syrians 😵 . It’s like a pipe bursts in an apartment building, and instead of just turning off the main valve, everyone starts fighting over whether it's better to catch the flooding water in bottles or in pots . p.s. wiredfalcon2 said:It’s just hilarious how people look at refugees from Syria like they're some kind of bottom-of-the-barrel beggars, when half of them probably finished college and speak better English than 99% of Americans. Terrorists 🙂
Do you actually have any data on these people wandering through Europe without papers? How many are coming from Syria? And you claim they’re all college-educated? You clearly have the evidence, you’re just holding out on me.
I still can't wrap my head around how it's even physically possible for people to trek across half of Europe—from Turkey all the way up to Scandinavia—without anyone stopping them to check their IDs. Is that even real? When Viktor Orbán tries to tighten things up, he’s practically branded Hitler 2.0. Are laws at the European Union level even enforced, or is it all just dead ink on a page? Can someone give me a reasoned explanation (and please, leave out the "terrorist" and "fascist" 🙂 labels) regarding what the European Union's actual policy is for the inevitable waves of immigrants following Merkel's public invitations? Are we just letting everyone drift to their preferred destination before they finally ask for asylum? And what happens to the ones whose asylum requests get denied, but they have no papers and refuse to say where they came from? Who do you send them to? Is there any hope of stopping human trafficking and the profiteering off of human misery? I honestly can't fathom how incompetent the European Union can be; it feels like nobody actually gives a damn.🤷
Just to clear the air so there's no confusion: I am absolutely all for helping people from Syria. It doesn't matter to me if we take 100, 3,000, or 10,000... but these people need to come directly from Syria or from refugee camps in Turkey or Lebanon, not just show up at the border (or already inside the country) with zero documentation. By the way, they're expected to arrive in America by next week since the Canadian route is being shut down. I'm sure the Americans in Canada will be more than happy to welcome them. 🎉
Walter Grant5 said:This is what happened in Turkey. Syria-Turkey border. I'm talking about actual refugees here. Not the guys heading to Germany because the construction jobs pay better.
PS: Hope people like you end up in my house.
Doesn't change my point.
I’m not quite following your point—are you suggesting we should only focus our commentary on Syrian refugees entering Turkey? Why is this one specific child being held up as such a special case? Was he really the first kid to drown on the route from Syria to Turkey? Based on Jergović’s writing, they found him on a beach in Bodrum. I don't know much about refugee routes, but I imagine there are plenty of other nearby beaches people would flee toward to escape a war... or maybe the goal was actually Greece, and they figured they’d just get stuck in some camp in Turkey if they stayed? Honestly, I find it exhausting when people try to pull at the heartstrings like this; seeing images of people drowning in the Mediterranean is horrific enough without being prompted by emotional appeals. I don't need the photos of kids to feel the weight of it. The whole refugee crisis needs to be tackled at its source; letting people slip through the cracks like this and essentially incentivizing human smuggling is just going to lead to more people drowning in the water.
Look, you’re just pushing marketing fluff here. Not everyone fleeing conflict is a refugee from a war zone; if they actually were, you'd think they'd be satisfied just having escaped with their lives intact and stayed in Greece or Canada, or wherever else offered them safety. Instead, they all show up without papers, refusing to register in the first country that takes them in because they have their sights set exclusively on Germany or Sweden. They've even started going on hunger strikes, rejecting food and water just to pressure the Canadians into letting them slip through to Germany without any official registration. Does that strike you as typical behavior for someone fleeing a war and looking for humanitarian aid? Or are we actually looking at economic migrants—maybe even a mass migration? It’s not about being against taking in Syrians, or anyone coming from a combat zone, but surely there are some established rules for how these people are processed 🤷 .
Maybe I’m just wired differently when it comes to institutions, but this whole performance where our media tries to force empathy out of us just ends up having the exact opposite effect. 🤷 Unfortunately, that kid isn't the first or the last person to drown, and if the EU keeps playing this kind of political games, we're going to see plenty more of them. Would you, or any of these people who love to "weep" over the fate of refugees, actually bother commenting on the video > posted? What’s the actual solution here? Are we supposed to send the Navy out to make sure everyone stays afloat? Or should we just ship them all off to Germany, since that's clearly the only place they want to be?
I honestly can't believe nobody has brought up the bridge yet... what is everyone missing? Sure, maybe they won't make the cut in your specific district, but once they actually get out there on the national stage, they’re a perfectly solid choice. 🤷
Yeah, there's always that risk they might fall short of the threshold, but if you're really that fed up with the whole Democrat vs. Republican circus, why not rally your apolitical friends to show up? To me, voting for the "lesser of two evils" when there's a decent third option sitting right there feels pretty shortsighted. Maybe they don't clear the bar in your neck of the woods this time around, but if they pull inสัก 3 or 4%, they can try again in the next cycle, or perhaps an even better alternative will emerge. Just voting against whoever is currently in power—whether it's the GOP or the Democrats—only serves to give those fools legitimacy. Those people will never get my vote, not even if they signed it in blood promising to put together a temporary caretaker government.
Haha, his voice is a bit grating, I'll give you that, but I look past it because I’ve noticed our tastes are pretty much aligned. I checked out his top movies from last year, and he’s basically picking the same flicks as everyone else. Plus, there are a few things I probably would have skipped entirely if he hadn't reviewed them. For instance, I’m waiting for Birdman and Whiplash to drop—though, honestly, I’d probably end up watching Birdman even without his stamp of approval. Whatever.
What exactly is bothering me? Take this specific point he made: when they get that serum from the General, instead of Tom using it to actually kick some ass, he gets some weird vision and just resets the day. Meanwhile, we’re just wandering around the city aimlessly while everything falls apart. At that point, Tom loses his ability to reset because he gets a blood transfusion—which is equally nonsensical, but hey, that's just how movie logic works, I guess—and suddenly they have to head to Paris without being able to loop the day a thousand times to get it right. But that trip to Paris... that’s what really threw me off. It makes zero sense that these aliens could conquer all of Europe except for the UK and somehow not need any land defenses. Like, they're smart enough to know people will only invade through Normandy, right? Come on. Yet, they have these random, pathetic outposts buried near places like Helix or some abandoned houses? And once the Cruise spacecraft crashes in Paris, the aliens don't even attack; they just sit there waiting for Cruise to figure out his next move. There’s plenty more where that came from, but I can't be bothered... unless you're dying to hear it?
Peter Thompson4 said:Look, it’s pretty obvious that I can take any movie and basically rip it apart piece by piece just to make fun of how bad it is, and honestly, I don't even care—here are two examples: I swear, if I have to watch one more over-analyzed, nitpicky video where someone spends ten minutes complaining about a single continuity error in a blockbuster, I’m actually going to lose my mind! It’s just constant, relentless whining disguised as "critique," and honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm the idiot for even clicking on these things when I know they're just going to drive me up the wall with their endless, pedantic counting. I honestly don't even know where to start with this absolute disaster of a playlist, because watching this stuff feels like someone took my brain, put it in a blender, and then poured the whole mess right back into my skull! It’s just one chaotic, nonsensical train wreck after another, and frankly, I’m sitting here wondering how anyone can actually sit through this without losing their damn mind.
Look, I’m not saying the movie is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it was honestly such a blast to watch that I don't even care—and frankly, I’d love for you to enlighten me and point out which damn movie actually exists that doesn't have a single flaw.
Look, I’m a long way from being the kind of guy who thinks nothing should ever be criticized, but honestly, the only reason I speak up is because I want us to actually get quality products instead of being fed total garbage! But lately, it feels like everyone is just tearing apart everything that happens—meanwhile, companies like Disney just pump out four or five sequels in a row without anyone saying a damn word. 🤦Honestly, it’s just so easy to be a hater, isn't it? Instead of actually taking ninety minutes to decompress and clear your head, everyone just sits around waiting for any little excuse to start spitting venom. I’m not even taking this personally when I say it, it’s just how people work—everyone wants to tear things down because it’s the path of least resistance, where you're never allowed to make a mistake, but the second you dare to say something is actually decent, suddenly you're the one who can't do anything right.
Look, no movie is perfect, but there are certain films where you can just overlook a few minor hiccups and still enjoy the ride. The problem here isn't some small technicality; it’s that *Edge of Tomorrow* is practically riddled with plot holes, yet people are out here hyping it up like it’s the next *Interstellar*. Time travel is always a minefield to write, but if the movie's only failure was the concept itself, I wouldn't even be bothering to chime in. I'm not sure if you actually sat through the full review or just skimmed the premise before jumping in to comment, but the guy wasn't hunting for nitpicky continuity errors—he was pointing out fundamental flaws in the logic of the story. Just watch it. The end. Maybe you'll finally get a better handle on what exactly is getting under my skin. I’ve never been much for those blockbuster movies that basically demand you check your brain at the door just to enjoy the ride; honestly, that kind of mindless spectacle is just not my cup of tea. ☕
I dropped this link to that movie discussion thread earlier, but I didn't get much of a response. I guess nobody felt like sitting through a nearly hour-long deep dive into why the film was such a mess, even though ☕he lays out every single flaw perfectly right here.
I just don't get these guys who go all out with the Air Maxes... unless they're some guy in tight joggers looking for attention, I don't see the appeal.☕ Look, Robin Fox2, you're living in the past; right now, New Balance is where it's at.

Did management seriously just dump a whole bunch of benchwarmers on us 🤣—I love that phrase, by the way—to run the show? Is it Brubaker backing up Miller on the right, or is that Mike stepping in?
wanderingcobra18 said:The issue is we’re always acting like it’s impossible, claiming we couldn't pull it off over there, and then every time someone gets a little buzzed, we just drink like idiots and ruin everything. It isn't about pointing fingers at one specific person; it’s on all of us. We have these incredible chants, but we won't even try to get them right because nobody wants to step up and take the lead...
I haven't been part of as many drunken attempts as you have (😬), but from the little bit I've experienced, the singing was actually pretty damn good.
As far as I'm concerned, we could spend an entire Sunday game just drilling these specific chants until everyone either learns them or grows to hate them. But looking at it realistically, if we can't handle the drinking if you don't step up, we’re going to struggle with this too. I know we aren't some tight-knit frat or a formal choir, but we really should (😍)stop the chant mid-way when things start speeding up and just restart from the beginning until we nail it properly. And I don't just mean this one song; I mean all of them. If we just ignore the problem and let people sing whatever they feel like, we’re never going to fix the lack of unity. Honestly, it would be enough if everyone just followed the drum (which also shouldn't speed up) instead of stubbornly pushing their own version of the rhythm.
Getting fifty people to actually sit down and read this entire manifesto from start to finish would be an uphill battle, let alone trying to get the whole North Side on board... unfortunately. But hey, we can always dream. 😍
