Not sure if anyone cares, but the Bitches Brew band played some festivals over in Europe, and it popped up as a free DWLD back in early January. Here’s the info if you want to go hunting for it.
Personally, I thought the gig was incredible, even if Miles Davis isn't actually in my top three.
By the way, has anyone actually sat down to watch Men in Black, starring Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton from back in the early eighties? It’s one of those movies where they basically take hippie mythology and crush it with a punk rock attitude.
...They’re playing again at 11:15 at Aquarius over in the Vlach district for Record Store Day. Given how much they've been lagging lately—between the sound guy and the general organization—things might not actually kick off until closer to noon. I’m backing everything Moose said about day two, mostly because my health and work drama kept me from making it to the first day.
Iggy was basically a parody of everything we’ve ever heard about him—a brilliant garage rock hustle—but honestly, he was charming as hell. (It’s not even surprising that some self-proclaimed rock critic over at AT&T doesn't get it. 👎 )
Trying to reprise IWBYD with a half-deaf MacKay just can't help but be endearing... 😘 especially when he dragged a bunch of kids onstage to try and distract everyone from Brother Ashton being absolutely wasted. 🤣 And Mike Watt—the kind of guy who actually plays with his soul—is living proof that when it comes to "playing for heaven while ignoring the playbook," he’s the exception that proves the rule. 🙏
I couldn't stomach that grunge-folk guy with the dreadlocks like I did back in the day when he actually killed it. If the vibe isn't there, it's just not there.
But the real MVP of the festival was DJ Eddy 🙏 who, during a solid 45-minute set, completely stole Peterson's thunder. 🤣 👍 GP just stood off to the side blowing smoke, and then was frankly terrible—way, way below his usual reputation. 👎
