GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Keith Wright2 said:What kind of budget are we actually looking at here if you're planning on buying a whole system? And are you paying cash or using a credit card? Or do you already have this setup sitting at home and you're just hunting for a new graphics card?

I am looking to buy an entire computer for $1700. I realize I might be asking the wrong question

I would strictly opt for buying something brand new if I'm looking at the long term. I’m not exactly a hardcore enthusiast, but I want to ensure my configuration actually has some room to breathe and allows for meaningful upgrades once the next big AAA title hits the market.

What kind of graphics card would you recommend for this specific build? My budget is roughly $367
1 x Thermaltake V3 BlackX Edition, ATX, mATX
1 x OCZ 500W ModXStream Pro Power Supply, SLI-Ready, 12V/36A, Active PFC
1 x DDR3 4GB (1x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Series, 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24
1 x WD 1TB Caviar Blue 10EZEX Hard Drive, 1000 GB, SATA3, 64 MB, 3.5"
1 x Asrock 970 Extreme4, AM3+, AMD 970 + SB950 - 4 x DDR3 2100(OC)
1 x AMD FX-Series X8 8350 Processor, 4.0GHz, 16MB, 125W, AM3+

Regarding the specific configuration recommended for this game: I currently have a Samsung b2230n 22'' monitor, along with a mouse, keyboard, a toaster, and 2GB of RAM. My intention is to use this setup exclusively for watching movies, browsing the web, and gaming. It is absolutely critical to me that the system remains quiet; I cannot tolerate excessive noise. Furthermore, I need assurance that it won't overheat if, for instance, I leave it running continuously for 48 hours straight. Finally, while I do have the funds available, I am looking for maximum value—I want the absolute "best buy" for my specific needs without overspending unnecessarily.

3 GHz processor
2 GB of RAM (though if you're running Windows Vista or 7, you really ought to have at least 4 GB)
6 GB of free hard drive space
GeForce 8800 or an equivalent video card (you'll need a dedicated GPU with 512MB+ of VRAM)
DirectX v9.0c support or higher
Operating system not included

What kind of budget should I be looking at for this, and could someone point me toward a reliable US online retailer that can put this whole rig together? Thanks!!

Request denied based on Rule 4.

Besides, I think your current handle looks a hell of a lot better than the one you're aiming for. 😁
