Maybe back up your data and swap out that HDD before things go south. I'd definitely recommend going with an SSD instead.
New RAM won't boot Windows in IT Support ·
Did you try resetting the BIOS yet? Maybe try mixing one old stick with one new one to see if that helps?

Honestly, if I were you, I’d prioritize grabbing an SSD over adding more RAM—though, I guess both would be good upgrades...

Charles Thompson15 said:Sure, UTP runs between the router and the computer, but that’s not really what we’re getting at here. We're talking about the connection between the router and the line coming from the utility pole where I'm tapping in up in the attic. An RJ11 cable plugs directly into the DSL port on the router.

I guess on some routers, that DSL port can actually be an RJ45...

I guess you just grab those two wires running up to the attic, take an RJ11 connector, and crimp them into the middle two slots.

Aaron Evans2 said:I picked up a Mission Q 400 w power supply, but it doesn't have that pin that goes into the GPU, like 4 or 8. What should I do? (I'm an idiot, I didn't check the specs when I was buying it)..

The GPU takes either a 1x6 or a 1x8 connector; there's no such thing as a 1x4...

I guess if you use a riser, that 50-75W the GPU would normally grab from the board actually comes through the riser instead (which is why you plug the riser into a Molex or SATA connector from the power supply).

I just thought the wording was kinda funny.😁

It’s pretty obvious you're a total amateur when you start talking about "12V phases"🤣

From what I can see, they've got plenty on AliExpress—those guys over there really know how to markup stuff. Just search for an EPS to PCIe adapter

DP cables can be pretty finicky with loose connections, maybe try using DVI/HDMI if you have the option

Maybe run a full system scan with Norton

Sure thing. This is what a standard phone cable looks like:

True, but those flat phone cables probably won't work since they aren't twisted pairs...

I guess you'd need crimping tools, unless you just swap out the phone jacks for Ethernet wall plates.

First thing you should probably do is pop that outlet cover off to see what kind of cable we're actually dealing with. If it's just some old-school 4-wire phone line, you're out of luck; if it's an 8-wire UTP setup, then maybe you're in. If the wires are tucked inside a conduit, there might be a chance to pull a new cable through, assuming the current one is just telephone wire.

There are different kinds of these viruses, some are harder to catch than others. Usually, you'll just notice your laptop or PC suddenly getting loud because the fans are spinning way faster.

The "smart" ones won't max out your CPU at 100%; they might just sit at 25% or 50%. You're just browsing, the PC is a little noisy, but you don't think much of it since everything seems fine. Or maybe you hear the fan and open Task Manager, but the virus is programmed to kill itself the second you pull that up. 😁

There are tons of ways they do this. I guess even the author of this thread caught a pretty decent one that went as far as disabling his antivirus and hiding from Task Manager.

McAfee, huh? Won't that have issues running alongside something like Malwarebytes?

McAfee should be fine, I guess. It shouldn't clash with Malwarebytes. Personally, I'd just disable MB so it doesn't start up with the PC, then just run it manually once a month or something...
