I was looking over my bank statement this morning and actually had to do a double-take. It’s getting ridiculous how many different monthly charges are just sitting there, draining my account before the month is even halfway through.

It feels like every single niche interest I have—whether it's a specific genre of film or a particular type of animation—now requires its own dedicated monthly fee. I used to just flip through cable or hit up a few main streamers, but now I feel like I need a whole spreadsheet just to track what I'm actually paying for.

I’m starting to see more companies try to team up to offer "all-in-one" deals, which is great for the wallet, I guess, but it also feels like they're just trying to lock us into even bigger ecosystems. It's like you can't just buy one thing anymore; you have to buy the whole bundle just to make it worth the hassle.

Do you guys find yourselves unsubscribing from things more often lately just to keep the total bill down, or are you just accepting that this is the new normal?
It feels like we're seeing more and more of these "accidental" hits on critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea lately. If NATO has to step in now, it shows just how vulnerable these subsea lines actually are to sabotage. Do you think this is just testing our defenses, or is it a precursor to something bigger?

After three years away from the AFL-CIO PDF, I decided to hop back on and drop a single sentence, just hoping to lend a hand to a user dealing with such an obvious issue. I’m just trying to make a small contribution to the thread. Naturally, within five minutes, I’ll probably be banned.

I mean, hats off to Robert Martin23 and his plumbing expertise, but there really is a massive difference between a casual hobbyist forum and actual paid technical support. You can't really compare a space meant for informal, open conversation to a workplace where a boss is breathing down your neck counting how many tickets you close per hour. One is leisure, and the other—well, let's just say they aren't the same thing.

Robert Martin23, if I'm the only one who feels this way, then maybe it's just me. But if others agree, perhaps you should give some thought to what "PDF" actually stands for in your title.

Thanks for listening.

I just happened to stumble upon this. It looks to me like you’ve got a few different issues all piled up on top of one another, doesn't it? If you haven't managed to sort it out yet, let me know.

In short, if you're running a newer version of Windows, that headache where you can't access shared drives on your Samsung TV is probably because the SMB1 protocol has been disabled by default on most PCs these days. You could try following this, though keeping track of all these shifting settings isn't exactly a walk in the park anymore— https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...l-windows.html

Thanks, rustydrifter10. It’s just a little something, but I mean it.

Not everything on this forum is meant for every single user here. And if I recall correctly, I already made it clear that my issue isn't actually with deleting things, but rather with the saving process itself.

But hey, obviously, we all love our own egos, don't we? Because without them, none of us would have an opinion to share in the first place.

Theoretically, no. But in practice, the situation is a bit different.

If the private messaging system worked more like a forum thread—grouping messages with the same subject and participants into one continuous conversation—you could argue that a limit of 1,000 messages per thread would be plenty. But given how it’s actually designed, even with 1,000 messages, we're basically at the point where the first 998 become irrelevant and can just be ignored.

As for those claiming you can just save your messages, sure, you can save them. But trying to follow a coherent conversation within those saved files is about as productive as searching for gold in the upper reaches of the Mississippi, especially when you consider how often people change their usernames; the actual information value of downloaded forum messages eventually drifts pretty close to zero.

A 1,000-message limit is really just a band-aid. Still, it's probably the best patch they can implement without putting even a 1% strain on the disk or processor subsystems of the forum's server.

slywolf45 said:I honestly think one or two messages are plenty, because even if you bumped it up to 1000, you'd just blast through them instantly anyway, leaving you with zero unread, 999 total, and nothing left to do but delete them one by one.

Go ahead then, go troll the only actually decent thread on this entire forum. Please, I beg you, take it back to the FBI boards. That’s where the real group trolling happens.

I honestly find myself agreeing with the original poster on this one; they actually hit the nail on the head with a figure that feels incredibly realistic.

But if they don't quote me, how am I supposed to keep track of the conversation?

What you just said has absolutely nothing to do with the counting issue you brought up in your first post.
