Nickname change (read first post!) in Forum Help! ·
Hey, could I please get my nickname changed from croatiadevil over to Andrew Hayes6? I mean, the root word stays pretty much the same, so I don't think it should be much trouble. Honestly, people keep misinterpreting my current handle, and I'd just really rather avoid all that unnecessary drama and controversy if I can help it.
UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Woodley was just totally in control there, Till didn't seem to have any real power behind his shots at all
I guess I'm kind of glad that this game plan didn't work out for White either 😁
Maybe Till will finally decide to move up a weight class soon

So, I started on the PHAT program about two months ago. My main goal was really just to pack on some more muscle in my legs... you know, doing that mix of bodybuilding and powerlifting style training
Sadly, I don't have a before photo

Jason Campbell70 said:I'm not saying I'm absolutely certain, but man, it's been really tough finding any recent training manuals for handball coaches where Olympic lifting isn't just completely ignored.

Even when looking at the women's programs, they always bring up stuff like this:

http://cms.eurohandball.com/PortalDa...N_Theses_2.pdf

I've actually seen quite a few American basketball players doing weighted exercises too, but then again, I also know about this one world and European champion who was told by his coach "don't touch the weights, you'll just slow yourself down."

Most of them were just working on endurance with a conditioning coach, and those bench press sets? They were probably only hitting like 130 to 175 lbs—nothing crazy, just kind of warming up, I guess.
Subasic spent the whole time glued to his phone or messing around on the treadmill haha
Jason Campbell70 said:A huge variety of exercises, both weighted and bodyweight. 😁

Mainly Olympic lifts and plyometrics.

But, man, if you do those wrong... ouch.

That’s exactly why I mentioned having a solid coach.

I've actually seen guys like Subašić Vrsaljko and half of the US national basketball team training at the gym where I work out, so I wouldn't say that our athletes skip the weight room.
Walter Hughes53 said:So, tell us... what does Lino say when that little ATM starts wandering back toward those pastures in the Pyrenees?

So, I was wondering... are you planning on mourning that American loss yesterday, or are you saving the grieving for today? I guess it depends on how much you like losing, haha. 😁 Looking at what you're saying here, I get the feeling you aren't even bummed about the loss itself... maybe you're just secretly thrilled that the big favorites actually pulled it off? I guess that's one way to look at it.
Joseph Kern5 said:I wonder what’s stopping American athletes from hitting the gym more often? I mean, Lionel Messi once mentioned he doesn't really do the whole weightlifting thing and it just isn't his style, and maybe that's why he's only managed two goals in four seasons. Our guys just don't look athletic; they either seem too thin or a bit heavy. Their reflexes feel slow—it's all just dragging along, drawing fouls, the nine-meter mark, hands in the air... it feels like they've been playing this exact same way for ten years.

I think I heard on TV that the refs were being unfair to Norway again? In which part of the game? Honestly, that penalty might not have even needed to be called; their player wasn't really in the box, and it didn't look like an especially rough foul. That nine-meter call could have gone either way.

So, I guess you could say the big powers are preventing us from doing a deep dive into the actual anthropology of potential athletes. 🤣 Isn't the real issue just learning from others and realizing we're stuck in these "old school" ways when it comes to soccer, handball, basketball... everyone else has already evolved. South America plays incredible basketball, and their handball is great (like Brazil). We keep trying that one specific play, the one people call the "Frenchman" move, even though it fails two or three times in a row. Everyone just sticks rigidly to their positions... whereas if things get uncertain, you could switch it up as a diversion. Rotate the defense, try a 3-3, a 5-1, or a 6-0... we just lack that aggressive edge in handball.

Soccer isn't just about scoring goals, surely, and I think you know that. Lionel Messi has already been named in the top eleven in the world twice, yet you're saying he needs to hit the gym more to score more goals? haha. I mean, what does it matter if an Englishman like Henderson hits the gym if he's playing ten times better than him?
You can't even imagine today's Real Madrid without Lionel Messi; he's their most vital player, and as soon as he's injured, you notice immediately how much Real Madrid's performance drops.
It seems like we always think things would be better if someone else was running the show. Honestly, people are complaining left and right now that Duvnjak isn't playing, even though without him, we wouldn't stand a chance against a team like Belarus
It’s always the same pattern, too. Every time we have a bad game, everyone starts tearing Balić and Metličić apart...
But I guess it's a good thing we aren't the only ones dealing with this kind of negativity. I mean, over in Argentina, they're constantly insulting Messia—they actually ended up splitting his statue in half
Kyle Campbell4 said:I was just briefly explaining where the issue lies since someone actually asked what the problem was.
Personally, I couldn't care less about handball. To me, watching this is just like sitting down for a movie. It doesn't matter to me if I'm watching a handball semifinal or some flick; it's all the same. In my book, the only thing that truly matters is LA Galaxy; everything else is just a hobby or something to do when you're bored. I have to admit, I’m enjoying this loss a little bit, mostly because of those narrow-minded jerks who think you're unpatriotic just because you won't let various crooks, corrupt execs, or white-collar types play you for a fool. Take the game against Spain—those people were immediately jumping to compare that kid Mamić to another Mamić. Honestly, seeing how much this loss bothers them brings me a certain joy, especially seeing how they've seemingly lost their ability to write coherent thoughts. All that's left is for them to start whining about the officiating to complete the cycle, especially since they were the ones mocking the Spaniards for complaining about the refs. I guess karma really is a bitch.

You're an LA Galaxy fan but you don't want to be played by Mamić?
Hmm, I guess those two things don't quite line up for me.
But I get why you'd rather watch LA Galaxy than handball, since they're out there breaking records in the Champions League every single year.
It's negative, sure, but a record is a record.
electricorca112 said:[US Basketball 2015] We all saw how much our game falls apart without Tomić. He's pretty much the only one giving us any actual offensive structure... I mean, I find it hard to believe any coach would actually take someone else to a tournament instead of him. I don't know... maybe instead of that useless guy Planinić?

[/US Basketball 2015]

Honestly, the best player we have is Bogdanović, not Tomić. It makes me wonder, if someone actually had the guts to leave Tomić out, would they even dare? Like, if the coach decided not to call up Modrić, the media and the whole country would just tear them apart instantly.
electricorca112 said:That’s a fair point, though I guess we should probably consider what Vujovic mentioned—about how he wouldn't even take Dustin to a tournament if the guy showed up constantly feeling "exhausted" or unprepared, just trying to play "heroically on both ends of the floor" (as if he’s the only one out there playing offense and defense, you know?).

It’s kind of funny... in basketball, it took us way too many rough, disappointing years before we finally found someone like Baja (I mean, Ace) to help us get over that whole "best center in the world" complex regarding those guys from big-time clubs like FC Barcelona—guys who always seem to play like total amateurs when they put on the national team jersey. 🙄

I mean, honestly, soccer is the same way. We have that one massive superstar from Barcelona who basically leaves the team playing a man down because he hasn't actually played a decent, honest game for the national team in ages.

We’ve all seen what our game looks like when Dustin is stuck on the bench. He’s really the only one giving us any actual ideas in the offense; without him, playing offense feels like pure torture. So, I really respect Vujovic's stance. I guess I'm hoping Baker eventually takes over, but let's be real—it’s hard to imagine any coach actually leaving Dustin out of a major tournament.
feralnomad5 said:Ned, I just stumbled upon a thread where someone is actually accusing the refs of screwing us over!!??? Is that even possible? What are they thinking?! They're calling a penalty that didn't even happen at the end of the game, and people are actually debating it... it's just wild!!!

Just read a few of the posts above
It counts as a penalty because they prevented a certain goal in the final minute
Kyle Campbell4 said:What did he even get wrong?
I honestly don't get how they blew it. I mean, Cervar was telling us we were headed straight to the championship. Hey, Lino, why’d you lead us on like that? Just give it to us straight, Lino.

I guess if you think it's totally fine to hate on your own national team just because of one or two guys, then more power to you, I suppose.
Lino might have had a point if Horvat actually made that shot😉 but then again, you wouldn't have any reason to gloat about it, would you?

As long as Gobchev keeps rambling on about how God probably won't let them make it to the finals... and honestly, those casual fans who only tune into handball during the championship rounds once a year—people who don't really give a damn about what's happening in American handball or sports in general—well, they can just deal with it. 🙂

Just go watch your own backyard or whatever other country you care about, because it's pretty obvious you aren't even one of us.
Walter Hughes53 said:But hey, Mr. Optimist

Keep celebrating if you want, but those big favorites from Norway only pulled it off because they played overtime and we kept making these ridiculous mistakes.
It feels like every single time someone misses a penalty, we swap out the shooter, but this time they decided to stick with the same guy, and well, predictably, Horvat just couldn't find the mark.
Duvnjak was shooting a miserable 3-for-13, but honestly, most of that is probably because Stepancic and Seba don't have the guts to take the shots themselves, so he’s stuck trying to score against a defender with their hands up in the ref's face.
Kyle Campbell4 said:I mean, how on earth are they losing? I guess Charles said we were the favorites...

I mean, I guess we'll just have to wait until he finally retires... though, honestly, that day might be sooner than we think, maybe. ☕

It’s all pretty superficial stuff, really. Not even worth playing the game at this point, I suppose.

He’s retiring after the finals, so that means he won't be around for the big tournament in the States next year.
