I’ll take that news from Brazil as a win. I was glued to the live timing, and honestly, Ferrari looked solid throughout the whole thing.
Even I’m actually feeling okay about these rainy qualifying sessions. It levels the playing field and takes some of that raw power away from Red Bull. This gives Hamilton and Kubica a legitimate shot.

The pace in Practice 2 was intense, you can tell just by looking at the standings. It felt almost like qualifying sessions were already happening.
The power gap is exactly what I feared—totally predictable.
And once again, there's that massive, frustrating gap between the top three and the rest of the pack.

stormybadger8 said:Alonso had almost nothing before one race, then he had a theoretical shot two or three races later, and by the time we hit Germany, he was basically out of the running. So, where does that leave us now?🙄

That's just your take, and if you ask me, you're way off base. But hey, I'm a fan, so I'll admit I'm biased.
That's why this place actually works. We have actual experts here who called it long before that last race—people who laid out a perfectly logical case for why Alonso is the frontrunner for the title. I still remember what Joe and DMJ were saying about it. They saw it coming.

stormybadger8 said:Vettel was sitting pretty at the top of the standings just a few laps before the end of that last race. Before all that went down, Hamilton and Alonso weren't even in his rearview mirror. Now? Who knows. Everything changed.🙄

And what position did Vettel finish in? Wasn't he tied with Alons on points?
Go ahead and poke fun at the people you can't stand, but for God's sake, don't overdo it.

stormybadger8 said:The way Ferrari handled Massa was an absolute disgrace. Honestly, they should’ve been banned from Formula 1 along with Alonso for a good few years. That’s how you handle it. Every single team that pulls stunts like that needs to face the same kind of consequences.☕

What a complete disaster.
Ferrari did Massa a massive favor here. They handed him a golden ticket to actually justify that massive paycheck they're cutting for him. It’s his shot to finally be useful for once.
Massa can basically worship at the altar of Ferrari for everything they've done for him.

Grow up already. Formula 1 is a team sport. Nobody sinks hundreds of millions of dollars just so one guy can strut around acting like he won it all alone. When a driver takes the title, the whole team wins it. Sure, the Constructors' Championship is great, but let’s be real—it’s secondary to the main story.

If you honestly believe Mark Webber was some kind of innocent saint in that situation, say it loud so we can all laugh. Personally, I think he’s just as guilty as anyone else. The only difference is that Sebastian Vettel completely lost his cool and made a fool of himself with those gestures afterward, while Webber somehow managed to come out looking like the victim in the court of public opinion.☕

Pardon, Joshua Newman2, I'm checking in too.
Even back then, I said it—and I still mean it—that Webber is the one at fault. If I were running the show, he'd be fired on the spot. Check the archives.

So that’s it? The FIA hands out a $10,000 fine, while Brazilians like Massa get thrown in prison for six years.

Give me a break. They finally remembered. Now I'm just dying to know when Rubens gets his turn behind bars.😬🤣

🙏🙏
Well, what haven't I seen yet?
But whatever, I just hope this applies to teams without team orders too. I can only imagine how much trouble the charming Button (or better yet, 👍 Joseph, that Hugh Grant wannabe) would get into in a Brazilian prison.
By the way, we should probably send some of our own to those South American jails. Honestly, for them, an American county jail feels like a reward. They belong in Turkey or China—just rent out some space there.

And regarding what's in the TBF's link, I already called it ages ago. Such brilliance from Alonso! What insight! 🙏 There's zero cohesion in the team. Everyone's happy with that.

Alonso said he is hoping that Massa runs well enough to win the final two races of the season, keeping his rivals from getting the victories.

"It's best to have Felipe winning the races because then he is taking 25 points away from everybody else," the Spaniard said.

I expect they'll actually drive for real during practice; they'll probably only start testing stuff in the first session.

hitting something like that would be a miracle🤣

Sure, honestly, it's way more likely that the roles of the key players just get swapped. 😁

Anything is possible, I guess, but there's only one name stuck in my head. The guy who's actually the main problem for Alonso is Mark Webber. Everyone else is just minor, replaceable damage.

And, as much as I want to believe in my driver, I’ve got a bad feeling about Red Bull in the USA.

Looks like it's still too early for any serious debate. But once people start talking, I want to know what you think about the power balance between the cars in the USA? Now's the time to act like you know everything.
Not sure if anyone even wants to talk about engine reliability—that favorite topic of The NFL's specualtion? Doesn't bother me. Ford has shown they're incredibly solid; the others still have work to do.

If there was a sportsbook out there, I’d happily drop a few grand on Felipe Massa crashing into Lewis Hamilton and knocking him right out of the race in the US.😁

Come on, Felipe Massa. Let's go.🙏🙏🙏

No big deal. Go ahead and send me the money—I’d happily take that bet.

Look, talking about death is a heavy subject for me, even if I was just half-joking about it back on Thursday.
Red Bull Racing is doing just fine on its own; they don't need any outside help to finish tearing themselves apart.

mistybear87 said:apparently Di Grassi spun out while driving to the grid right before the start 🤣🤣🤣

It wasn't "apparently." I was watching it on German TV.
I still don't know what actually caused it, though. Haven't bothered to look.

Last year during the final MotoGP race, Casey Stoner had a similarly bizarre exit during the warm-up lap. If I recall correctly, Stoner was running on Bridgestone tires back then.
Hard to believe, especially if you're pulling for them, but hey—it happens.

Arthur Doyle70 said:No... check this out: http://www.totalf1.com/full_story/vi...lton_in_Korea/

However, because he used a replacement 'box for the race, a clause in the regulations allows Hamilton to begin a new four-race gearbox cycle in South Korea, meaning he will start the weekend with a brand new unit ☕

Right, so he's saved by the fact that it was labeled a replacement gearbox rather than just a new one.

Honestly, that's a huge relief for him. If he had been facing a five-place penalty at the start, he wouldn't have stood a prayer of doing anything meaningful. This way, he actually has a fighting chance.

Chris Ortiz said:After sleeping through most of the afternoon, I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed with that race. It’s just gone. There's nothing left. McLaren needs to pull off a win at the next race. No excuses.

It’s not going to happen.
Button is trailing behind that top four. He just can't keep pace.
Looks like Hamilton’s facing another gearbox change, which means he’s getting slapped with a five-place grid penalty. Just my luck.

A race where every single leader walked away feeling pretty decent about the outcome.

Sebastian Vettel - He takes the win. You can't do much more than that when you have zero control over what happens behind you—perfect setup for a championship run.
Mark Webber - Vettel looks untouchable, and he’s just stretched his lead over second place even further. His title chances are looking massive.
Fernando Alonso - Red Bull is simply in a different league right now. Damage control is the game here, but since the gap to those dominant Red Bull cars isn't massive (even if they own this track), there's still a realistic shot at the title.
Jenson Button - He managed to stay ahead of Lewis, though he might be kicking himself for that start. He was actually ahead of Alonso for a moment, but honestly, the end result would've been the same anyway.
Lewis Hamilton - Great start, really. It wasn't his fault he lost positions; those gearbox issues absolutely killed him. Two gear malfunctions by the end meant finishing 5th, but that's how it goes. McLaren is lagging a bit behind, so we can only hope for some progress in the next few races.

What's with this Vettel guy wearing a Japanese helmet (letters on the front, red sun on top)? Like, why?
Probably just getting himself psyched up for a win in the US.

Wet qualifying sessions are basically a lottery.
And if the track stays inconsistently damp? Then you’re looking at an even bigger gamble. That means today's dominance isn't necessarily a guarantee for tomorrow, or even the day after.

If we end up seeing massive Red Bull dominance—which, let's face it, is entirely possible—then the goal is just damage control.
For Ferrari, the only real disaster would be a win for Mark Webber. Anything else is manageable, provided we actually pull off a decent result ourselves.

I don't expect Lewis Hamilton to be much of a threat up front. Losing 40 or 50 practice laps is hard to shake off, though maybe he can claw some of that time back on the simulators. Still, I'd love to see him fighting for position and actually staying ahead of Mark Webber.

mistybear87 said:In case anyone was wondering what Hamilton's wheel actually looked like after that collision with Webber 😬

http://twitpic.com/2sgbu7

That’s a pretty solid anti-ad for those Enkei rims.
The whole thing just crumpled from the impact, yet somehow couldn't even manage to puncture the other guy's tire. They really ought to take a look at some Ben Hur or Gladiator era engineering to see how wheels used to be built for actual combat conditions.
I wouldn't dream of putting that junk on my car.

stormybadger8 said:Personally, I find this super interesting. The incident is almost identical to the one in Turkey where Mark stubbornly holds his line—except this time, Lewis actually had a chance to leave him room. Vettel didn't. All he could do was brake, and even then, both of them were already practically past him.

Funny how MW was blaming Vettel before.

And regarding Massa doing the exact same thing to Lewis that Lewis did to Mark... there’s barely a difference. Except for one tiny detail: Massa wasn't chasing Lewis; he was in front, attacking Fernando Alonso. It makes perfect sense for him to focus on what Alonso is doing instead of looking in the rearview mirror to see if someone is about to slam into him.

That's the small distinction. Lewis didn't have much else to look at besides keeping track of Mark, and that's the one thing he failed to do.

Exactly.
Lewis said he thought the overtake was already done, wrapped up. He clearly expected Mark Webber to back off just enough to let him through. And as for not seeing him? It was a blind spot. I believe him.

But honestly, after moves like that, Mark Webber has basically built himself an invisible shield. Everyone’s going to think twice before messing with him on the track now.

Jason Campbell70 said:You should have stopped after that first sentence.

A racing incident? Both were at fault.
Webber was driving like a bull, forcing the issue, while Lewis could have easily given him more room.

It was just two stubborn drivers meeting on a narrow bridge.

Webber is an idiot.
