I just finished building my latest rig, but I don't want to get rid of my old one featuring the Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5 motherboard. In fact, I’m planning to move it into a brand-new case.
So, here's the deal. It's a CrossFire setup (the Intel X38 express chipset isn't exactly the gold standard for running dual graphics cards simultaneously, but it gets the job done).
It's also a PCIe 2.0 board, so I need a decent PCIe 2.0 compatible card.
What would you recommend, and where can I find one? (A used card is fine—actually, preferred, since I doubt anyone is even selling PCIe 2.0 cards anymore).

A newer card will work on PCIe 2.0 just fine without any issues... I'd suggest the GT 1030. Since your processor won't be able to push much anyway, this card draws very little power and doesn't require a beefy PSU.

You can snag a 1060 3GB for $400, which is still a solid performer, rather than wasting money on this nonsense that isn't even worth half that price. Personally, I think you should aim for at least a 6600 or 6600XT; anything less, just go used.

The 6500XT comes with 4GB of GDDR6 and a full three-year warranty, whereas the 1060 has been around since 2016—and it isn't even any stronger!

boldpilot5 said:So, we’ve settled on the idea that the RTX 3050 is the better move and more cost-effective if it stays around $200. $0.00So, here's the real question: there are quite a few people circling that $2,000 price point. $167 Which one is actually better or more worth the money? What specific specs should I be looking at to figure that out? Which values really matter here?

Thanks in advance for the reply. 🙂

You've got the RX 6500 XT, which actually outperforms the RTX 3050 by about 20%.
The MSI RX 6500 XT Mech series is hitting the market, offering a solid entry-level option for budget-conscious builders looking to upgrade their rigs. It’s a decent little card if you aren't trying to run everything on ultra settings, but it serves its purpose well for casual gaming.

If that’s the price range we're looking at, then the T600 is easily the best value on the market right now.

It's better than the NVIDIA GTX 1050ti, which is $667 definitely worth grabbing while it's still available.
GDDR6 4GB, 3-year warranty
NVIDIA Turing Architecture, only 40W

- DDR4 16GB (1x16) G.Skill 2666MHz AEGIS Bulk - $149
or
- KINGSTON DRAM 16GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM FURY Beast Black - $164

I'm assuming I can just pop one stick into a single slot on the motherboard...

DDR4 16GB (1x16) G.Skill 3000MHz AEGIS, F4-3000C16S-16GISB
Grab this one. The price is $157 but it's CL16.

I can't wrap my head around Best Buy's logic—why are they keeping the price of the Intel Core i9-12900K above $2333 when everyone else is dropping toward $2067?
It’s useless if I can't sell mine, yet they won't even drop the price for buyers. Honestly, I'd rather just head over to Micro Center than deal with them. To make it worse, they use those fake "sale" tags, crossing out $7500 to show $7200 (okay, I'm exaggerating, I don't feel like looking up the exact numbers right now).
What's the point?

If you're planning on playing multiplayer, an IPS monitor is your best bet since it offers much better response times than VA panels. But if you’re sticking to a tight budget and just want the fastest response possible, you can't beat the old TN panels!

granitecrane2 said:It looks like everyone is busy putting builds together, and I'm right there with you. But my issues are a bit different. I definitely want the Corsair Vengeance DDR4. First off, because of the lighting, and second, because it's low profile—I already bought a massive Corsair cooler (Noctua NH-D15). Here’s the catch: Best Buy only has the 32 GB kit (2x16). I actually need 64 GB (2x32). Does anyone know where I can find that?

I don't see anything on the Best Buy site mentioning if they're low profile.

I managed to snag an Intel Core i5-10400, so now I just need some suggestions for a motherboard and RAM. Sorry for bugging you guys so much.

Are you planning on doing any overclocking on the CPU, or just keeping it stock?

bluesurfer66 said:What proof is there that prices will go up compared to what's currently on the market?

The Inno3D GeForce RTX 3060 Twin X2 OC was listed at $1667 on Best Buy just four days ago, but now it's out of stock and the price has climbed. That's just one example!
Alexander Diaz4 said:There is no way you'd put a Bronze power supply in a rig worth over $2,500. 😵

Some Bronze units actually work quite well, though nowadays Gold and Platinum are the standard benchmarks.
From a strictly performance-driven perspective, the ABS / Tagan BZ blew us away with its incredible benchmarks. The Efficiency, voltage regulation, and ripple suppression were absolutely flawless, and that 135mm fan truly redefined what "silent operation" actually means. I also have to give Tagan a massive shout-out for packing in every little extra an enthusiast could possibly dream of. It’s way too common to find modular power supplies that leave you with nowhere to put all those leftover cables, but with this unit, you get a dedicated carrying case plus basically everything else under the sun.
