Used 2060 or a new 1660.

Adam Moore3 said:The build pulls maybe 300W at peak on the 12V rail, leaving plenty of headroom for overclocking. 🙂

Keep in mind that GPUs can have transient spikes where they pull extra power for just a split second. You really need to account for that, since a sudden surge can trip your PSU and force a shutdown. For an RTX 3070, those spikes hit around 243 watts, which isn't huge, but it matters.

Don't forget the CPU can pull upwards of 120W too...

Basically, the 12V rail handles the heavy lifters: the processor, the graphics card, fans, and any PCIe expansion cards. While the motherboard uses its own VRMs to regulate things, the 12V rail is still the primary source for your most power-hungry components.

Roger Booth2 said:I’d go with the option from Adam Moore3. It’s everything he suggested, I just swapped out the case.

If you're planning on overclocking, I’d grab a slightly beefier power supply. Otherwise, it's fine.
amberhound8 said:So, I'm thinking about selling my old PC. Honestly, I can't even bring myself to clean it; it's covered in dust, scratches, and—I don't want to be gross—but it probably reeks of stale cigarette smoke and sweat. It's nasty.
I’d honestly rather just give it away for next to nothing just so I don't have to deal with scrubbing it. I've been looking at what I could grab as a replacement, and this is the kind of setup I'm eyeing: https://www.amazon.com/wishlist/public/e3Y2dw0Q5h
It's actually a step down from my current rig—smaller drives, lower-tier brands, you name it—but hey, it's new. This whole thread is pretty pointless right now since I haven't found a buyer for my old machine yet, nor am I even motivated enough to post an ad.

The 730gt plus the G5905 combo is three times—and I mean three times—weaker than the R3 3200G currently sitting in there $276!!!

Christian Mendoza60 said:It’s been a long time since I stopped caring about all this stuff. Looking at Craigslist, you can find a used card $667 just like that. I don't even get how a new one is 2300.
What kind of used model can I look for up to $667 that would actually outperform that one?

With that kind of cash on Craigslist, you could snag something significantly better, but you won't have a warranty!!!
Personally, I’d go with the Core i7 since it's a 4/8 setup, whereas that i5 is just 4/4.

Some software really leans on a powerful processor, while others might get by with a weaker graphics card—and vice versa. Ideally, you want a setup that excels at both.
Could the person looking for a build let me know which specific programs they'll be running?

I actually sold my 480 8gb for $900 just two months ago.

Sean Taylor7 said:What’s the worst part is that if I remember correctly, I actually own this cooler, but I bought it ages ago—maybe 5, 6, or 7 years back, I can't quite recall.
But there's no way it supports LGA1700 unless they released a new version later on.

By the way, money isn't really an issue for me.

There is an upgrade kit for the 1700 socket at Micro Center for about $2.

Yeah, I'm a fan of aftermarket coolers too, but someone mentioned the stock cooler for the Intel Core i5-12400F would get the job done.

If you're fine with the stock cooler hitting its max RPM and buzzing, and you don't mind temps climbing over 80 degrees during long gaming sessions, then the stock one is okay...

To keep things quiet, I’d probably go with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 and an upgrade kit. It’ll run me about $45.

The website has a $533...error..It's worth buying again just for that 36-month warranty; plus, it's the cheapest option and faster than a used RX 580 sitting around somewhere.$667
