Album of the week in Music ·
This new poll is a mess. You’ve got two votes again (right away, not after the fact).
🙂

That was quick. 🙂

I'll wait for a sixth suggestion, if anyone else actually wants to weigh in...

it's a great little liquid.

uhuhh, honestly, it's just what I need for a smooth transition,
going from the absolute worst calculations into this, just to water the houseplants:

Yeah, he’s definitely got a unique look. Don't worry about it, I actually love how engaged and into this you are. It helps me stay informed while reading your stuff because, honestly, as much as I love music, I’m terrible at being disciplined enough to read up on things separately. Usually, I just listen to an album and call it a day, so these 'albums of the week' are actually pretty helpful for me.
I don't have IG, embarrassing, I know.

Yeah, a face.
I hope that's your impression of 'ooz.'
(And thanks. 🙂)

Just make a fake IG just to follow the good info... 😉

Ashley Grant66 said:Yeah, maybe Violent Femmes are a bit of an adolescent band, but they have this energy and sense of humor that always manages to wow me. It kind of sucks that the general public mostly knows them for the hit Blister in the Sun, but I guess that's just how it goes. Hallowed Ground from '84 is totally different from their debut—dark, almost leans into folk-country, like it's a completely different band.

For me, 'Confessions' was always the best...
They're still great to me.

Ashley Grant66 said:Pere Ubu always sort of slipped under my radar... but I spent the summer playing music for my husband, so I've been listening to them more lately. This one is great.

Man, you reminded me of them... I just stopped listening for some reason, which is weird because I used to think they were excellent.
I really only listened to that third one, 'New Picnic Time' and 'The modern Dance,' where this is beautiful:

Insanely wonderful / wonderfully crazy:

Sentimental Journey 😍

Dennis Hall41 said:That's interesting. I honestly thought Drako gira would be way too soft-hearted.

man, was I wrong:

"I didn't know about that until Jarboe introduced me to Nick Drake in the 80s. I was blown away, I listened to him constantly, for a long time. For better or for worse, I'd be hearing him and revisiting early Dylan convinced me that it was time for me to start trying to write songs on acoustic guitar.
(...)
Drake was inspirational to me in thinking about the simplicity and about creating something that has genuine power and truth in it, with very simple means, as opposed to Swanse, which relied on volume."

Check out his top 13 albums, too. It's pretty great. It really is.

Jamie Davis9😍 my absolute favorite (her album).

It’s not bad for you. I just put on some cold, liquid tracks myself.
And check out demo, the whole demo album just dropped recently...

(and on vinyl...)

Yeah, that’s how it sounds. And those are actually allergens you shouldn't be avoiding. I'll give it a listen, thanks. 🙂

Ashley Grant66, uh, I used to play that album constantly back in high school (and actually broke a few of their CDs), they were so great, but I haven't listened in ages... anyway, here's something with a similar title:
les hommes sauvages:

blast of silence

It was actually pretty tough to find their first album 'Playtime'... I'm trying to track down where I put it right now, but man, it's just incredibly good. And, at the risk of sounding like a total Swans fanatic here on the forum, I follow both of their Facebook pages. On the gira one, he’s basically the one behind 90% of the content (head and shoulders above the rest).
But on the ig profile, it’s almost entirely his stuff (except for a few promo and tour posts where the caption says: posted by YGR staff).

His Instagram posts are top-tier quality; I’ve learned so much from them. That's actually how I first discovered Christoph Hahn's work (and his solo albums), The Necks, Charlemagne Palestine, and a whole bunch of other inspiring musicians, films, and books (plus there are some cool references to painting and contemporary art). You also see new personal texts and photos... and he actually replies to a good amount of messages and comments on his profile, which is a really nice level of direct communication. It leads to all sorts of mutual recommendations with followers, too. He really values his fans—I don't see that often with many artists, but Michael is just different. Plus, yeah, he's fun... and has a great, dry sense of humor.

Honestly, the best public social media post gira ever made is probably that one about nick Drako. I don't know if anyone else could have written it better (or more simply).

NP, Christoph Hahn's solo shows are something special...
Though, way back in the day, he seemed like the most intense member of Swans to me.

I love this one:

I've listened to the Gil Scott-Heron album a few times now after seeing the suggestion from Gerald Jackson48... It’s really beautiful, honestly, just full of soul... and that cover art is stunning. I didn't realize you had mentioned him before, so I guess I have to ask—do you have any other recommendations from his discography? Like, which albums should I dive into next, and in what order? 🙂

Sticky summer days in LA, and those smells (not a fan)...
Finally, the heat broke a little and there's actually some air moving:

Solid comment... honestly, I’d just 🙂
along with everyone else who won't shut up at (acoustic) shows.
but man, it’s pretty brave to show up to a gig with maybe 50 to 200 people and start acting a fool in the front row,
especially while someone right in front of you is basically ripping their guts out through the song...
well, Gira says it at the start, but even that feels too mild (if such a thing is possible).

Yeah, there’s something deeper there. Check this one out too: song for a warrior
And the whole 'i am not this' album if you can find it—if not, I guess I'll just send you a download code from the vinyl.
A week is way too little time...

He’s crazy about her, she’s easily one of his best...
(Honestly, I think solo looks way better).

Last year he played her at the club in Chicago—pretty intense, but good. Before that, though, I saw her live and she was just magical. There were maybe fifty people there and nobody recorded it, which sucks... I don't think I've ever felt that kind of energy again...
(Because of that show, I actually missed a Young Miko set in Chicago, if I remember right; I think it was around the same time. I flew all the way out to Belgium just for Gira, because back then I was going through exactly what you're dealing with now, except for me, it had been dragging on for months, or longer).

Oof, these guys are incredible right from the first few bars. I really dig how they build up that tension!

I've heard the hype about them, but I haven't actually sat down to listen yet...
It might work, though I guess this track sends you straight into a much more mellow headspace for the rest of the day.

I really wanted to tell you that this is finally something decent for a change. 😉

I’m actually into newer jazz directions lately. Someone on the forum mentioned those great Norwegian guys—those aggressive jazz musicians—or maybe some nu-jazz similar to what that Polish group Scalpel does. I gave this a listen this morning after you posted it; it's good, I guess, but honestly, it's kind of a bore.

Mark Cruz15 said:Damn, I'm already voting for Sia. I love their energy, and at least Lisa Davis46 isn't whining about there not being enough women or some other feminist nonsense.

Well, there just aren't any left, man. Fine, if you want some balance, I'll vote for Melvins instead.
🙂

Regarding the suggestions, I've only really listened to Siouxsie's 'Kaleidoscope' and this Heat (I've heard more of theirs, and this one is great),
but I guess I need to check out the rest... I've never listened to Gil Scott-Heron, just a couple of tracks, but it seems pretty good...

uh, Steven Newman50, I dig this one.
plus, I remember who you are + god damn The Sun.

but honestly, I shamelessly love that entire album,
even though I know most people found it disappointing after CoG...

Slow, sunny, and humid Sunday afternoon,
just one for staying inside with the plants and the dogs:

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army, the songwriter's guild 😍

Talking in tongues is easy when you know how,
Quite pleasing, but still nothing works out right.
Pressurized lungs, heart bleeding, you'd better slow down
And show that you can make it through the night.
