It’s officially dead. The issue is that it decided to give up the ghost "today." Local stores around here don't carry any replacements. (Indianapolis)
There is one option I spotted on eBay—an ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 3GB that supposedly still carries a warranty until March 29, 2020. According to $500, Of course, I have no idea what the previous owner was actually doing with it... whether he was messing around with overclocking, pushing voltages, or just being reckless... And even then, I'm not entirely sure about the state of the fans on that particular card. It would probably be wise to pull the heatsink off and give it a thorough cleaning, though I wouldn't go tinkering too much with it myself...
I can't seem to edit this, so I suppose I'll just have to leave the links as they are... Things have been getting a bit too heated lately, so I decided to pull the trigger "immediately"... In my neck of the woods, there isn't exactly a Best Buy nearby with any decent stock—just these options. I've heard on YouTube that this last one keeps the fans silent until it hits about 60C... The issue is that some of my games are barely hitting 28-30 fps at 1920x1080, even though I really want to run everything on high settings... So, let's just get this over with today 😵
So, turns out it really is just an R9 270. I'm just poking around here, though I'm certainly no expert... Dell, Nvidia, MSI? I've read somewhere that they're all basically the same thing... At this point, I'm just looking for something with a bit more punch for the lowest possible price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/graphics-card-listing-example
I figured I’d check back in to grab one last bit of advice before I actually pull the trigger on a purchase...
Looking at what's new, I saw a GIGABYTE Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 with 2 GB GDDR5 and the GIGABYTE Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 OC, also 2 GB GDDR5
But then again, looking back up at the thread, there was some advice about needing at least 3GB...
Auuu! He actually told me he was talking about an R9 290, but then he sends over a photo where the box clearly says 270, my bad... It’s essentially the same dilemma, just with a 270 instead, assuming that really is the card we're looking at here...
So, even that wouldn't be a bad deal, but I wonder if there's something better out there for less cash?
Just one more thing—a colleague of mine actually has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX up for grabs, I believe $333. (we haven't touched on the price yet) I’m not entirely sure when it was originally purchased, though it was bought brand new... Should I pull the trigger on that, or would it be wiser to spend some time scouring eBay for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX?
Regarding my previous rundown on those NVIDIA GeForce GTX cards—specifically the 1060, the 1050 Ti, and the 1050—as well as the 780... I can't help but wonder where the NVIDIA GeForce GTX actually fits into this whole narrative. I'm asking because a buddy of mine is currently busy dusting out his junk drawer at home, and I need to know if it's even worth digging through the grime to find it...
@Timothy Kim60/">@@Timothy Kim60 Thanks. If I can manage the price point, I might just be able to work my way up toward that recommendation... I'm not entirely certain what qualifies as "low profile" in this context, though the maximum length is listed at 315mm. It’s hard to say whether they factored in things like capacitors, resistors, or any other little electronic protrusions on the motherboard when calculating those clearances... I don't have any plans to perform a full PC upgrade anytime soon. I feel a bit hesitant about opening the case right now just to inspect the power supply, though I know I didn't cut corners on the PSU a few years back—which, perhaps, is irrelevant now... I saw a GTX 780 listed in an ad earlier, and the price seemed pretty close to what the shop is asking for this one...
My Plex setup. I’ve got this old PC sitting up in my attic (literally), programmed to shut itself down at 1:00 AM and boot back up at 6:00 AM. It’s set to auto-restart whenever there’s a power outage, so I just hop on via TeamViewer to get things moving again. The machine is running a few different drives and acts as my Plex server, though it’s still running on Windows 7... If you don't have a computer hooked up directly to your TV, or if your television isn't exactly "smart" enough to handle the Plex app, you really just need to pick up a Chromecast. Just look it up online; it’s a pretty seamless little solution...
Greetings everyone! I find myself in need of some guidance from the younger, more seasoned 😛 veterans here... Back in the day, I had a PS3, and I’d spend nearly every waking hour glued to it for a solid month straight. Eventually, life caught up with me. Career, kids, the usual responsibilities... Over time, I realized that setup just wasn't quiet enough or fast enough to satisfy someone used to that console experience, so I ended up selling it—it basically funded a new grill for the backyard. Fast forward about nine years, and now my daughter is asking for a PS4. My immediate reaction was, "What do you even need a PS4 for when we have a PC right here?" Since my background is in music production—specifically running a home studio—I took the old computer I used for work and repurposed it into an HTPC, which currently sits in the living room hooked up to the TV. I picked up a controller (trust GTX 545) and thought, "Well, there you go, I've got a console."
However... in the world of audio production, the graphics card is essentially irrelevant... Now I'm faced with the task of dropping money I don't really have on a GPU, and quite frankly, I know absolutely nothing about them anymore. One complicating factor is that I built this entire rig inside a sleek, hi-fi style case, the Jonsbo G3, which means I'm severely limited on physical space for a card. Furthermore, I eventually intend to move toward a passive cooling solution for the GPU down the road...
My current specs are: Windows 7 SP1 running on an SSD, a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H paired with an Intel i5 760 at 2.80GHz, and 12GB of RAM (is that DDR3?) (Does that DDR3 have any bearing on the graphics card, like if it needs DDR5 or something? I feel completely out of the loop...)
Right now, I'm using a passive Nvidia GT 720. It’s perfectly fine for multimedia tasks... It even handles Fortnite, though only on the absolute lowest automatic settings.
I need to hit a resolution of 1920x1080, so my question is: what can I get for the least amount of cash that would actually fit into this "gaming" machine of mine?
This app is an absolute disaster! What kind of nonsense is this "upcoming transactions" feature that just shows you two different account balances... I mean, who on earth is that actually useful for?!! I have a premium credit line, so I can see my total limit, but I can't see how much of it is actually available, nor can I see how much of the limit I've already burned through. On top of that, there's no way to see when my installments are due or even how much they are until the day they're snatched from my account. The whole app is a complete catastrophe. Email notifications are broken, and that useless automated email notifying me every single time I log in won't let me opt out no matter what I try.
Now, I was wondering... I was granted this premium credit limit right after my first paycheck, set at the amount of one month's salary. It's been three months now, and this month I actually received $333 a bit more because I had a baby—it was a bonus from my employer—but clearly, the folks over at JPMorgan Chase don't realize why my pay was higher :-)) so I'm curious if I can actually go in and request an increase on that limit now?
Greetings to everyone! I find myself with a rather minor inquiry regarding the JPMorgan Chase mobile banking app; I went ahead and submitted a formal request to my representative at the branch, making sure to check the specific box indicating that I wanted a brand new username and password... however, she insists that this information was already provided to me during the initial account opening process. Which, quite frankly, is simply not the case! I am curious to know, when exactly did you all receive your login credentials and passwords?
So, what you're saying is I should set it up as 2-4-2-4? On my end, the first two are the same color, and then the next two share a different shade... on my old motherboards, things were configured differently... honestly, I haven't the slightest clue...
Greetings. I am currently running these specific RAM modules (which I managed to pick up back in September for about $286, though that’s hardly the point here...) and my intention is to add another 2x4GB kit
so I find myself wondering if mixing different capacities will cause any stability issues...
Actually, it just occurred to me that posting direct links to retail stores might be considered bad etiquette, so please accept my apologies; I shall go ahead and scrub those links once I manage to find the original post...
My wife just put in a request to increase her overdraft limit at Bank of America, and I was wondering if anyone here has any insight based on their own experience... specifically, how long does one typically have to wait for an answer or final approval?
Just one more somewhat misguided question on my part; from what I gather, it’s actually possible to withdraw cash using a gift card (which, mind you, I don't currently possess)?... and then I could just pay it back in small increments?... if that's the case, I suppose I could somehow manipulate my way into scoring those discounts at Target... assuming that's even how the world works...
Some people are all for it, while others are dead set against it... Thanks, but you still haven't actually addressed the specific questions I'm dying to get answers to, and since it's absolutely pouring rain out there, I can't exactly head down to JPMorgan Chase to go ask them in person...
My wife is planning on applying for a store credit card so we can pick up a specific item. The item is priced at $1500. I’ve been doing a bit of reading, and several sites mention that "the bank extends you credit," which leaves me wondering... does that actually mean the merchant gets paid in full immediately? And more importantly, would that 15% cash discount still apply if we pay via the store card on a deferred plan? It might be a bit of a silly question, but it crossed my mind...
On another note, I was wondering what the requirements are for opening a store account, specifically regarding whether they need my last one or perhaps my last three pay stubs, and just how long the wait is for the card to arrive? Thanks.
Greetings! I was curious about something regarding the boot process... when you power up your PC and see that little Windows animation, do you experience those few seconds of total darkness—just a black screen with absolutely nothing on it—right before the blue "welcome" screen finally pops up?
