Anthony Sanders53 said:Now you're really pushing me to get crude here. Forget about society—look at YOURSELF! Is this some social standard, or some church doctrine, or some old-school tradition? Or is it just YOUR truth??

Not quite, though I’ll certainly be happy enough once my own truth aligns with what everyone else accepts as common sense 🙂

But if I find out I'm off base, I'm perfectly willing to rethink my positions and change my mind.

I'm definitely not the type of person who can't admit when they've made a mistake.

It seems like some people around here let their pride get in the way of that, so they just end up staying stuck in their ways...
Anthony Sanders53 said:Now you're really pushing me to get crude here. Forget about society—look at YOURSELF! Is this some social standard, or some church doctrine, or some old-school tradition? Or is it just YOUR truth??

No, honestly, haven't you realized that yet? 🙂

I’m just saying that while we all construct our own little versions of reality, every once in a while you have to check in with society, with tradition, or even with the church... otherwise, you just end up getting left behind by the rest of the world.

Let me explain my thinking.

Think about someone incredibly brilliant and highly educated—let's say Einstein or Tesla, it doesn't really matter which. If they were locked away for a year, totally isolated from everyone else, just working on their own projects, they might come out feeling like they've achieved something massive because they managed to build a radio receiver. But then, the moment they step back out and face the real world, they'll realize everyone else already moved on to television.

That's the point... no matter how smart or unique we think we are, we still live within this collective society, and every single perspective needs to be adjusted and aligned with the bigger picture, simply because if we don't, we'll just fall behind...
Anthony Sanders53 said:Yeah, I mean, you've got science on one hand, and then there's faith, tradition, and the whole patriarchal structure on the other. It's hard to say who's actually right... I honestly don't know which side to trust. Maybe faith? They haven't changed their ways in centuries, so they seem steady. Scientists always seem to be double-checking everything and doubting themselves, so they feel kind of uncertain to me.

Well, that's just the society we live in, and it's the reality we all face, whether we actually like it or not 🙂
slywolf45 said:And honestly... given that I actually work in this field... there are certain things where I can say without any hint of hesitation: yeah, to hell with medicine.

slywolf45 said:Aha... so medicine has officially proven that you can just choose this? You're talking nonsense again... as usual.☕

I actually never said that anywhere...
Anthony Sanders53 said:I guess there are just so many different factors that go into determining sexual orientation. From a psychological standpoint, people often point to the Oedipal stage of psychosexual development for both boys and girls, but that’s hardly the whole story—there’s way more to it than that. At the end of the day, it isn't some conscious choice. It's not like someone just wakes up one morning and decides, "Yeah, I think I'll be gay today." That's just not how it works. Plus, sexuality is such a complicated thing; we all have both heterosexual and homosexual aspects within us. People tend to experiment with different sides of themselves, and they eventually find where they land. Sometimes those feelings shift later on, and sometimes that pull toward both genders stays constant... at least, that's what science suggests. As for what families, society, or the church say? Well, you know how it goes. Usually, those views don't really have anything to do with true human nature. It feels more like they're just trying to keep everyone in line...

It really isn't surprising when old laws or ancient wisdom suddenly start feeling relevant again!

So, I don't think you can really claim to know who's right or wrong here either...
slywolf45 said:Wrong again... it isn't a disease.

Even that hasn't been proven yet...

Mark Lewis4... As if I haven't heard this all before...
If someone actually tried to tell you that you were rejected from joining a crew just because of your eye color, who your parents are, how much money is in your bank account, or simply because they thought you weren't "sharp" enough... I mean, how would you even put a label on that? It’s hard to call that anyone's "free opinion" when it feels more like a wall being built right in front of you... it honestly feels less like an opinion and more like a closed door...

Honestly, I can't help but wonder why the moderators haven't steered this discussion back toward its actual purpose... which is to explore whether you're simply born with a certain orientation, or if it’s something that develops, or perhaps even something one "chooses" during those formative years, just like some of those self-proclaimed intellectuals love to claim...
Honestly, none of this really gets under my skin too much... the world is just way too big to take everything so personally...

So, what exactly are people supposed to say in those Middle Eastern nations—I can't quite recall if it was Iran or maybe Iraq, or some other place like that—where they only accept soldiers who meet certain height and strength requirements...?

I've been trying to get logged into the portal all morning, but I just can't seem to get through... does anyone know why my access is being blocked like this?

As far as moving the conversation away from this topic goes, I’m completely on board with that idea...
It feels like every single thread on the psychology board eventually turns into the same old debate between the exact same handful of people...

We really ought to open up some kind of lounge or a little hangout spot just to chat... 🙂
briskgull4 said:Hey neonhound10!

Just wanted to weigh in on this, not just regarding the thread itself, but more about your specific posts...

You keep insisting that you aren't being offensive and that you're just joking around. But honestly, if people don't see the joke, they aren't necessarily wrong. Look, I mess around all the time and I like to think I have a decent sense of humor, but humor is subjective. Everyone has their own threshold for what they find funny and how they want to be teased. For instance, my girlfriend might not handle the same level of sarcasm that I thrive on; if she perceives my jokes as belittling rather than funny, should I just keep pushing it? I don't think so. If someone isn't vibing with your style, you simply don't do it.

You constantly lean on the concept of free speech, but let me ask you this: if I started poking fun at you and accidentally hit a nerve, would you actually enjoy it? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't... Just be fair and stop using insults. Even when it's framed as a joke, it still stings.

Best regards.

Right back at you,

I'm certainly not such an idiot that I don't recognize boundaries. Sometimes my humor gets so dark or crude that it’s really only meant for a very select group of people (let's call them the eccentric crowd)...

When someone tells me I've gone too far with a joke, I know when to back off and not dig any deeper, because of course I can realize when something I find hilarious might actually offend someone else.

I just need a heads-up on who's sensitive and who isn't.

The whole reason I wrote that was because certain people seem to think they're Nobel Prize-winning physicists and that their opinion is the only one that matters. Even if they are right, you still have to respect another person's right to disagree.

Later on, that same person ended up exposing their own hypocrisy by responding to my provocation.

Those types of people are the truly dangerous ones, not me, just barking at the moon.

And honestly, it's pretty tough to figure out someone's true colors through an online forum like this.

I'll always push back against narrow-minded people, simply because they refuse to look at things from every angle.

But I do take your advice to heart and I'll try to follow it as much as possible, because none of us deserves to be mocked.

The only thing that really bugs me is when "certain individuals" try to pigeonhole my thoughts in every single thread and link them back to something I said ages ago in a different discussion.
There's no mercy for people like that.

I could go on forever, maybe even talk about myself just so you guys can see that this is all totally normal for me, but the point is to have a provocative stance to keep the conversation moving...
🙂
slywolf45 said:Fair point... you caught me there. My apologies...😁

I have to admit, though, you did manage to throw me off my game for a second.🙄

Hehe, well, that’s just because I’m playing it totally unstrategically...😉
slywolf45 said:Oh, wonderful. Now you’ve started quoting those ridiculous Americans? Honestly, man, that is just pure madness.😁

Are you kidding me? Where on earth are you pulling that "breaking through" statistic from?🤣 🤣

What’s your take on this? It feels like we’re forced to navigate these "warped" perspectives on a daily basis.

It’s all just a rerun at this point. We've seen it before, we're seeing it now, and frankly, we'll probably see it all over again. It's nothing new under the sun.

👍
That wasn't meant as an insult, which honestly just highlights how much you're missing the point here...

Maybe I should try to explain it to you, though it feels pretty pointless, but I was simply describing the historical reality of how people of color have been treated in the US.

Even today, some of the most intense racism can still be found right here in America, where the intolerance toward darker-skinned individuals remains incredibly high.

But hey, you clearly think you've got it all figured out, so I really don't understand why you're even bothering to engage in these bizarre arguments in the first place...

I personally have no problem accepting gay people in my community, but I have to wonder if they have the capacity to accept my own twisted way of thinking...
We’re all stuck in the same boat here, really... they’re fighting for their rights, and I’m just out here fighting for mine.

Everything is perfectly legal, no shady business involved.

Honestly, you guys are acting so soft, terrified that some liberal activists might influence how we raise our kids.

It’s honestly pathetic how sensitive everyone has become lately... where did we even go wrong? Because personally, I don't see the issue, I'm all about being "tolerant" and all that other nonsense.

I'll be the first to admit it—I'm an aggressive person and probably the least tolerant soul on this planet!

All these overly sensitive types are just driving me absolutely crazy...
Anthony Sanders53 said:That doesn't have anything to do with freedom of speech. That's just called being exclusive and intolerant.👎

Call it whatever you want, but honestly, why on earth would I feel obligated to be verbally tolerant???

I'm not out here trying to insult anyone, I'm simply stating my own perspective, and I have no intention of turning around and speaking against them just for the sake of it...

And besides, who's actually going to stop me? If they want to throw me in jail, then let them, I couldn't care less...
slywolf45 said:I understand perfectly well what you're getting at, and frankly, with every subsequent comment, you're leaving me more stunned... (bolded and underlined)

Even if it was intended as a joke, it really isn't appropriate.

Man, geez, you are way more sensitive than a freaking mimosa plant.

Honestly, people who just can't take a joke are mentally checked out. No offense intended...
It honestly feels a lot like those stories you hear from back in the States, right around the time everything was being legalized... 🙂 Back then, it was all one thing after another, and eventually, any crime or offense committed by a Black person just couldn't be prosecuted because people would always step in and claim it was all about race...

I know I’m probably going to deal with a whole crowd of people who just won't grasp what I'm actually trying to say here, but then again, that seems to be the case with certain groups too... if I say I don't want them on my team, it's simply because they aren't a fit for me, and it doesn't mean I have anything against them personally...

That’s what freedom of speech is all about...

Honestly, if they just formed their own separate league and explicitly stated they didn't want straight people in their ranks, nobody would be making a fuss... It wouldn't be seen as discrimination at all, but rather just a group of people setting their own boundaries to protect themselves...

Trazim_auto As I was saying:
Yeah, I’ve heard that theory floating around, but if we follow that logic to its conclusion, it implies that certain traits only surface under specific circumstances. It’s like saying a person might carry a latent tendency that stays dormant until they hit a certain breaking point—or perhaps when they simply lack the willpower to keep it suppressed. It’s less about a permanent state and more about whether an individual has the mental bandwidth to hold the lid on it.

If this hypothesis actually held water, it would essentially force society to implement countermeasures against homosexuality, based on the fear that it would somehow spread through the entire population. Honestly, proving such a thing wouldn't even benefit the LGBTQ+ community. It would be counterproductive. On the contrary, their best bet would be to demonstrate that the percentage of homosexual individuals in the population remains relatively constant—much like how certain demographic trends stabilize over time. That way, you eliminate the panic regarding some sort of "contagion" effect and remove the pretext for any reactionary social measures.

What kind of fear are we even talking about here? Honestly, it feels like we’re living in some sort of paranoid fever dream lately. It's exhausting.

I honestly can't wrap my head around why anyone would even advocate for measures against homosexuality. To be perfectly blunt, it feels like an incredibly regressive and frankly appalling stance to take.😲 Look, let’s be realistic here: there will always be homosexuals, just as there will always be heterosexuals. It’s simply one of those fundamental constants of human nature.

😁

Nothing lasts forever!
wanderingscout13 said:Hold on now, slow down! I never actually said anyone *should* be forced into treatment. No one needs to be treated for any condition unless they want to and aren't causing harm to others. Look, some people might be perfectly content with being gay, while others might not be. I truly believe many latent homosexuals would be much happier if they weren't struggling with their orientation at all.

But really, this is more of a theoretical debate, isn't it? It seems like in reality, things are far more complex—there are clearly innate predispositions, yet childhood environment and everything else still play a role. Also, it seems like very few people are 100% homosexual; most cases likely involve bisexuality.

Haha, I'm definitely on board with that sentiment. You see plenty of guys out there with whole families and lives, yet they still clearly enjoy a little extra attention from men...

That's why it feels like such a disguise, you know? It's always a total shock when you finally realize someone's actually part of the community...
Even if my posts come across as a bit blunt or poorly phrased, please understand that I would never actually want to hurt anyone or be seen as an intolerant person...

At the end of the day, I have every right to comment on whatever I want, however I choose to say it, because that's what having an opinion is all about.

I suppose once the gay community starts reproducing amongst themselves, then maybe their way of life will start to seem somewhat normal to me...

But there are just far too many unnatural things being pushed on us lately, and everyone seems so intent on convincing me that these things are perfectly standard and natural.

It honestly reminds me of how people in mental institutions behave, convinced they’re the ones being treated unfairly while the rest of the world is completely wrong...

It’s nearly impossible to explain the concept of normalcy to someone who isn't grounded in it, simply because their own perspective is so skewed.

I really hope that this lifestyle remains in the minority and that most people continue to be born heterosexual...
