Not bad at all—I bet Ridley can still squeeze out even more from this one... 🙂 😁
By the way, did anyone else catch that Velibor Topić plays that French knight who tries to assault Cate Blanchett?!
I’m honestly just disappointed... I expected way, way, WAY more from Ridley—he really missed the mark this time...
Kingdom of Heaven was fifty times better than this Movie.
The script is just terrible—actually, desperate is a better word for it—and the plot drags for most of the runtime, except maybe for the last half hour and the battle scenes.
I know everyone is going to obsess over those landing crafts now, but if I remember correctly, I watched a BBC documentary a few months after Saving Private Ryan about those "Higgins Boats" that were such a big deal in WW2... I recall them saying the guy designed those landing boats based on the ones Normans, Crusaders, and Venetians used to land cavalry on beaches...
Plus, in that final fight, there are moments where the camera gets too close and everything moves so fast you can't even tell who's hitting whom... and the combat lacks that certain magic you see in 300; it’s all a bit too sugary.
I still don't get how he blew $237 million on this, especially since it's $100 million more than Kingdom.
And the music is awful compared to Gladiator or Koh...
This feels like it might just be a massive box office push for the sake of it.

Such a great movie—definitely one of Kilmer's most powerful performances...
"Protect your family at all costs. Even if you're forced to kill again. Because if I had to, I’d wipe out the whole planet to get mine back." damn...
So, I heard Ridley Scott originally wanted to do a sequel to Kingdom of Heaven where Balian (Orlando Bloom) would end up joining Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade—and at the very end, he’d be gifted some land in the United States, basically turning him into Robin Hood. But since the movie didn't exactly break the bank at the box office, and everyone seemed to complain that Bloom wasn't quite "heavyweight" enough for the lead role, Ridley decided to scrap that idea entirely. Instead, he went with making Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe... who was actually his first choice for Balian, though he was probably a bit too old for that part by then...
I'm guessing Ridley won't just churn out some cookie-cutter remake, though—I can't imagine he'd settle for that. This will likely be a slightly different take, maybe leaning more into historical facts rather than the usual Robin Hood stories we've seen a million times before...
Still, I'm pretty sure it'll turn out better than that Robin Hood with Kevin Costner.
The movie hits theaters on May 14th, 2010.
