Commuting to work by bike in Cycling ·
Look, having a 1-1.2 miles commute one way isn't even in the same league as someone dealing with 7 or more miles... 😂
Little kids in elementary school are gonna be walking way further to get to class. 🤣
I’ve got about 4.7 miles one way, and honestly, I just skip the rides when it's raining or snowing. Temperatures can hit like -6, which doesn't really bother me, but if it's wet or raining? Yeah, the bike stays in the garage. Riding in that crap is basically something you only do if you have zero other options, or if you're just a total masochist. 😁

So I reached out to mellowraven22 about 16 days ago, and still nothing!
Where’s the hold-up? 😁
(Not that it's a huge deal or anything, just asking for info... should I shoot him another DM, or just sit tight and wait?) 😉
How to prevent home burglaries? in Miscellaneous ·
Dana Reyes5 said:you can get those outlets with built-in timers, so like, with two or three of those you could probably set it up so the TV kicks on at like 5 PM and shuts off around midnight
you could toggle a night light too, maybe every half hour or an hour
you could even schedule the washing machine to run just to keep the bathroom door open so there's some noise echoing through the house occasionally
or maybe crack the blinds just a tiny bit so people see some light coming from inside
the whole point is basically just making it look like someone’s actually home, whether it’s through sound or lights
I think you can also forward your landline to your cell, since burglars usually call the house first to see if anyone answers
and honestly, whatever else comes to mind, you just gotta use your head

technically impossible for a TV or a washer...
because when you plug a TV in, it just goes into standby mode, it doesn't just pop on immediately. unless it's one of those old-school units with actual physical buttons to turn it on and switch channels.
same goes for the washing machine, it's got a programmed cycle, so once it finishes, it just stops, and you'd have to manually turn that dial again. or if it's a digital one, you'd have to set the specific program, so yeah, none of that works...
a lamp might work, I guess, just like a radio, provided it has a physical on/off switch and you leave it in the ON position. so, if it's got a button like a remote control, then zero points, because plugging it in just puts it in standby mode. 😉

Best online payment cards? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
vividranger8 said:What it boils down to is that the IRS has eyes on everything moving through your transaction accounts—you know, your standard checking accounts—because those are used for income, and well, income gets taxed (though how much depends on what kind of money we're talking about, I guess). And whether it's a domestic dollar account or a foreign currency account, they're all essentially the same deal.

aha, so that's the catch! 😁

i mean, that's actually why i went ahead and opened a standard USD account just yesterday. anyone can drop cash in there, whereas with a foreign currency account, it's pretty much just me making deposits.😉

So, here’s the deal: I have a standard checking account at Chase, and I just got my Visa debit card. It has the CVV on the back and everything, but looking at the discussions here, everyone seems to be saying you need a foreign currency account. Does that mean I actually need to open a separate account, or can I just deposit $100 into my current one and call it a day? In other words, is it even possible to deposit a foreign currency directly into a domestic checking account? I’m clearly out of my depth with these banking structures, so any clarity would be appreciated 😢

Kimberly Nguyen said:Just watch your step... you wouldn't want the IRS breathing down your neck asking about your health insurance status next year, would you?

Lavica02, maybe explain what you mean by that? Because I'm literally planning on opening an account at Goldman Sachs right now (since I need that Intel card), and I'm totally lost on what that whole thing with the IRS would even mean?

and, uh, kill me if I'm wrong—if I open a USD account (which is basically like a foreign currency account, but in dollars), is that the same thing as a checking account, or is there some kind of difference? 😁

I guess I just need an account where people can actually send me money, so which one should I end up opening? 😕
Backfiring exhaust??? in Miscellaneous ·
Brandon Morgan10 said:I'm guessing the dirt bike doesn't even have an electric starter, just a kickstart... you get those backfires by revving the engine up and then hitting the start button.
So, yeah, that's not gonna happen on a dirt bike.

Nah, man, you don't hit a start button, you hit the kill switch. Like, you rev the hell out of it, hold that throttle open, and then just smash that kill switch...

But I guess it really all depends on what kind of bike you're riding, you know? Like, how the ignition and the kill switch setup actually works on that specific model...

looks like I might actually stop drinking this Kraft stuff..
i mean, honestly, the only reason I even touch it is to mask the taste of this tap water here in Chicago. it constantly tastes like straight chlorine or iron, which is just wild because my apartment plumbing isn't even a year old... but whatever, i guess that's just how it is.

nah, honestly, the house was spotless. plus, they'd already rinsed everything out with water first, so there wasn't even a trace of detergent left inside, 100%!

So, I picked up some Kraft cranberry instant drink for the first time last week, and today something seriously weird happened with it.
Basically, I mixed the stuff up and started drinking it, but I didn't finish the whole thing. I left a little bit sitting at the bottom of my mug... just thinking maybe I'd come back to it in like, half an hour or whatever. Well, when I looked back, the leftover liquid had turned this incredibly strange color. Here, check out the photo so you can see what I mean:

I guess I'm just wondering if this is actually normal? Like, why would that happen? It was this deep red color right when I made it, so I don't get why it changed so much!

You can find all that farming gear, winery stuff, and whatever else... you’ll probably run into more of it at a Tractor Supply Co. or a Home Depot before you even step foot in a Walmart!

You don't just go around asking stuff like that out loud... you gotta handle that through private messages. 😁

So, I think my mod messed with the link or something... looks like it was edited a bit.😁
Yeah, obviously. Thanks! 😉👍
