I’m sure I’ve probably asked something that’s been covered a million times before, but I could really use some advice:
A police officer pulled me over today and gave me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. Usually, I’m super diligent about buckling up, but this was honestly the one time all day I forgot. Anyway, I received a citation for $167 and have an 8-day window to file an appeal. According to the officer, since I don't have any prior driving offenses on my record, I can submit an appeal and the fine might be automatically waived by the traffic court. Should I just state in the appeal that I’m pleading not guilty without giving a reason, or would it be better to mention something specific, like being in a tight spot financially? Also, is it actually true that a first-time appeal can get a ticket dismissed?
