He's right, honestly. Just keep cranking up the RAM and it fixes just about everything. That's exactly why THIS 😬
exists.

Can the 7650K run faster than 2133 MHz? The specs say the memory controller maxes out at 2133 MHz CLICK

Is there some specific reason you’re stuck on using Ekup? Honestly, you’d be much better off grabbing it from a reliable retailer like Micro Center or Newegg. You usually get free shipping, assembly services, more dependable warranties, and generally better prices.

analogtiger19 said:No matter what the end goal is, once you ditch the monitor, you're left with just the OS $0.67 (or maybe even more) sitting there, and there's not much room for debate... honestly, it might be more important to find out if he's paying cash or using a card (which would shrink that budget even further 😬)

Exactly, that's why I'm asking. If he needs a computer with a legitimate OS, he probably needs it for work or running a business. Now, if it's just basic data entry or some trivial task, then sure, an SSD and 1840 will do the trick for $667. But if he's planning on doing anything serious like video or photo editing, there's no way 🙂

Can I actually put together something decent for that kind of budget?

What’s the main use case for this PC?

Every single one of these complex configurations is completely pointless. Just tell me what your budget looks like and how you plan to pay, and I can put together something much more practical for you.

EDIT: My mistake, 🙂

It'll hold its own for now, but I wouldn't dream of trying a major GPU upgrade on this thing. That’s why going with the Hyper is definitely the way to go.👍

At the very least THIS, whereas THIS is a slightly more expensive, yet much better, best buy.

To’s true, I hadn't even considered that. OVA has a DVI port, though I suspect they'll need to pick up a DVI cable too—AOC never includes those with their monitors. It'll run about $12 more with this motherboard.

IPS monitor, pretty strong integrated graphics paired with dual channel 1866 MHz memory. It'll crush League of Legends without any issues.

In terms of AMD, the 270X sits in that same bracket, but honestly, I'd personally lean toward the GTX 950 since it generally performs a bit better on average.

If you feel like playing the haggling game with them to score a deal on used gear, it might be worth it since the motherboard is a step up. Plus, if you’re already building a new rig, you don’t necessarily have to swap out every single component. Your processor is still pretty decent; if you pair it with a high-quality motherboard (like the one on Craigslist), you could actually get some respectable overclocking out of that Phenom and slap in a much beefier GPU. But if you’re truly looking to overhaul the whole system, just grab a top-tier motherboard right now so you aren't stuck worrying about it later. So, it's either that Craigslist option or OVO if you're going all new

Look, why bother buying used when you can grab a brand new Giga 970 a for the price of three or four beers?

Yeah, Robert Rodriguez2 already gave you his take. The GTX 970 is definitely the powerhouse here, so if you go with that, you'll get the best gaming performance out of this build. If you're looking to $17 save a bit on your annual electric bill, then stick with Nvidia 🙂. Personally, if it were my money, I'd pick the i5 over the Ryzen.

1 x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) Kingston, Corsair Vengeance, 1866MHz, CL10
1 x XFX EVGA 2, DD Radeon GTX 970 1000M Boost 3GB DDR5

It really depends on the specific series. You’re going to find high points and low points regardless of which one you pick.

Paul Hernandez49 said:Oh yeah—forgot to mention the drive, it's a Samsung 840 Pro 256.
What does "new" actually mean here? Are we talking DDR5 memory or what? Will I see any actual performance gains from that?
And is it worth splurging on something better just so it lasts longer? (I'm planning to hold off on a new build as long as possible).

Man, what a bizarre mix of parts you've got going on. You're running a bottom-tier power supply with an ancient AM2 platform, yet you've got an SSD (and a Samsung 840 Pro 256 at that) and you're looking to drop money on a new GPU for this rig. 😲 Honestly, I wouldn't recommend buying any high-end graphics card right now, mostly because of that power supply. That Microsoft component is a joke. Plus, the CPU would just bottleneck any decent GPU you tried to throw in there.

The smartest move would be to just run what you have until it dies and start saving for a proper machine. Buying a card like that GT 730 is basically throwing money away. This current setup is pretty outdated, and while you might breathe some life into it for $167, once it's time for a new PC—which I think is basically right now (😬)—you'll realize you spent $167 on a card that's too weak to even matter in a new build. 🙂 Just my two cents.

I’d personally trade a bit of convenience and modularity for a higher-quality series featuring an 80 Plus Gold rating. KLIK

It’s the first time I’ve actually seen someone go for one of those Intel Core i7 series monsters. That 220W TDP is insane. 🤣 As far as RAM goes, just grab some basic 2x8 GB 1866 MHz sticks—whatever is cheapest, it really doesn't matter (assuming you're aiming for 16 GB, of course). For the power supply, I wouldn't settle for anything less than a 600W 80 Plus Gold unit. Dropping a Seasonic in there would be a really solid move.

First time I'm hearing about something like that... what does a BIOS update have to do with the graphics card? 🤔
