Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
crimsonstag84 said:It's definitely doable. That Athlon 6000+ comes in two different speeds (3GHz and 3.1GHz), so they aren't actually that hard to find. 😉

I didn't realize that. 🤷 He could probably grab $250$100 on eBay at the very least.

There’s no way it’s 3100 MHz. It’s either 3000 MHz (the Athlon 64 x2 6000+) or 3200 MHz (the Athlon 64 x2 6400+), though I doubt it's the latter since those aren't exactly common. Either way, you can grab some decent cash for that CPU. You'll see plenty of people posting ads looking for "high-end" processors for the AM2 socket, and what you've got there is easily one of the strongest ones out there.😉

Jeffrey Chavez6 said:I’d definitely ask for a hundred bucks more for the CPU, maybe $17 more for the motherboard, but honestly, you should be happy if you get that much for the monitor. That's probably the one component that loses the most value the second you open the box.

My advice? Sell it all as a bundle. It’ll be way easier to find someone willing to overpay for the whole setup rather than trying to move parts individually. The build is really well-balanced—I'm guessing it was put together using parts from an online tech forum. 😉

For sure! 😁 I'm not too certain about the processor; a brand new Phenom 955 is currently $217, and I wouldn't pay more than $500 for a used 840. I know there are people out there who aren't very tech-savvy and might shell out $1000 for an AM2 build, but I'm looking for a realistic price. What I'll TRY to get for it is a completely different story. 😉

Yep!
And that’s why it isn't "brand new" anymore... it won't fetch full price.

You could try leaning on the warranty angle to squeeze a few extra bucks out of a buyer...

I know, but I just can't bring myself to give it away for half price after a whole year... Oh well, it's going for $300, so whoever wants it can grab it. 😁

That's it? 😲 The motherboard is worth maybe $200 alone. And yeah, the C45 is... The power supply is only $83 and a new one would run you $400, especially since this one still has its 3-year warranty. The monitor is only a month old, basically brand new with a full warranty, and it's already $67 less than that? Honestly, the whole rig cost well over $1500 when it was new, $833 so that seems way too low to me. 🤷

A friend of mine is looking to offload a PC build he’s had for about a year and a half. Does anyone have an idea of what kind of asking price would be realistic here?

Intel Core i3-4130
2x2GB Kingmax DDR3 1333mhz
Sapphire 6850 1 GB
ASUS B85
Gigabyte gz-x6 case
XFX 450W
500 GB HDD (not sure of the specific model 🙄)
DVD drive (roughly $50)
Dell 22 Monitor (only a month old, still under warranty)

I mean, I know, but that 6950 is a beast, especially in a CF setup... I honestly figured it would pull even more power than that.

DiRT3 ~440 W
Furmark ~480 W
Prime + Furmark: ~560 W

Best.

Hold on, only 135W for a 6950 CF in 2D? 😲

My current build:
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.70 GHz
GPU: Radeon HD 6850
PSU: Codegen 400W

I've got about $233 set aside, and I'm looking at getting an EVGA
I could use some advice—will this PSU have all the right connectors? Or is there something better or even cheaper out there?

Just jumping in here—that 5200+ is going to be a massive bottleneck for a 6850. 😉

Which of these two power supplies is better, and is the OCZ modular? 🙂
Best monitor under $120? in Computer Peripherals ·
No, I really don't need a 22". I'm currently rocking an 8-year-old CRT, so anything slim is already an upgrade over this... A 19" would be plenty for me at 1366x768 resolution. Honestly, I think it's smarter to grab a smaller, high-quality monitor rather than some cheap 22" unit made with bottom-tier components. Looking at what's available from retailers like Best Buy or brands like ADM, which one would be my best bet for these specs?

So, I'm looking to pick up a new monitor, nothing crazy though. My GPU is pretty weak right now—an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB DDR3—so I can't really justify anything with a massive resolution. Checking out some shops in Washington, D.C. like Links or ADM... Thanks in advance 😛

I'm on a pretty tight budget, so I was wondering what the cheapest power supply would be that can handle this GPU and an Intel Core 2 Duo? 🙂
