Maria Fisher46 said:Hi there,

The calcium and phosphate results you posted don't look concerning to me, so they probably aren't related to what you're feeling. Have you had an abdominal ultrasound done yet?

Unfortunately, I haven't. The only thing I've had done lately in that area was a gastroscopy, and they found chronic gastritis.
Maria Fisher46 said:Hi there,

You might need to rule out or confirm Gaisbock syndrome since you have polycythemia, high blood pressure, and obesity—all of which could fit your current results. Of course, polycythemia vera needs to be ruled out too. Your liver numbers and urate levels might also be linked to being overweight.

Hi,
I went back for more tests. My blood counts look normal now. But, my phosphate levels came back elevated. As for symptoms: I’m constantly exhausted and sleeping all the time. I thought it was related to low ferritin, but that's normal now. Also, I have constant ringing in my ears and these throbbing headaches at the top of my head. Back in 2021, things were fine, just some alpha-amylase issues. In September 2022, my Calcium was high. I'm currently taking atenolol and Nexium.

Could slightly elevated hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell counts mean anything? My hematology specialist mentioned maybe doing some bloodletting if this keeps happening, since this is already the third time I've seen these results. I also deal with low ferritin levels and systolic hypertension.
I can't see the image you linked, but I'm here if you want to talk about it. Just let me know what's going on.

Hello,
I just got my new lab results back. I guess you think they're elevated now? 🤦 My ALT levels are still climbing. They’ve been high for a while now. I wonder if taking Emanera 40 and atenolol 50 long-term could actually cause liver damage? My triglycerides also went up by 0.1, though I guess that’s probably just due to my weight. I'm 19 years old, 194 cm, and weigh 96 kg.
I can't see any images or links here, unfortunately. If you meant to share something, maybe try again? I guess I just missed it.
Hi there,
Could slightly elevated hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell counts point to something specific? My hematology doctor mentioned maybe doing some bloodletting if this happens again, since this is already the third time I've seen these results. For context, I have low ferritin levels and systolic hypertension.

Maria Fisher46 said:How old are you? Are you on any medications? How is your hypertension being managed?

Hi there,
I'm 18. I take Atenolol 25-50 mg for my blood pressure and Esomeprazole for gastritis. My last home monitoring:
Home Monitoring (August 2, 2022) (41/40 readings)
Max systolic: 160 mmHg, Max diastolic: 115 mmHg
Average blood pressure readings (mmHg):
Overall 140/68 (95th percentile 80)
Daytime 144/70 (95th percentile 85)
Nighttime 127/62 (95th percentile 76)
Nighttime BP drop (%):
Systolic 11.3% (normal)
Diastolic 12% (normal)
My hair has also thinned out quite a bit since I started the beta-blockers. Mostly on the crown. It grows slower now too. (L65.0 Telogen effluvium) Plus, I have tinnitus and sometimes feel a little dizzy since my blood pressure was discovered.
Also, all my blood work results have this note: "Serum slightly lipemic."

Here are some other results if you're interested: View on imgur
Brenda Alvarez24 said:Why is it that I can share access to my digital health records through the e-Government portal with basically anyone on the planet, yet hospitals and local clinics can't see them because they haven't set things up right? It's pretty absurd—I give permission, but the healthcare system still can't access the info. 🤦

I guess it's just because the digital record system isn't fully functional yet.
Hi there! I just got my blood work back, so here are the results:

My creatinine is slightly above the limit, and I think this is the third time it’s been elevated like this. My ALT seems to be up for the fourth time too, I guess. Monocytes are high for the first time. Is there a specific reason for this, or is it maybe just a minor deviation? I deal with GERD and hypertension, and I usually struggle with constipation whenever I have iron deficiency.

A teacher and a student. What part of that is confusing? Have you never seen what a video call class actually looks like?

You share your screen, write out the problem, pick a student, they share their screen and solve it—everyone sees everything, everyone hears everything. 🤷

Have any of you actually walked into a school and seen how things work there?

It just doesn't work. As students, we really hate this way of learning, especially when it's for extra help or tutoring. There are constant technical glitches, and too much time gets wasted just trying to share screens and type since most people aren't using touchpads—they're struggling with mice. Plus, like 99% of us don't have great internet, so everything lags. The audio is always out of sync with the video. You just can't do math, chemistry, or physics this way.
We really miss face-to-face classes. Staring at a screen isn't the same thing.

Sure thing. Just reach out to Nicole.
(I'll have to wait on my ferritin results, last time it was 4)
Just an update—my ferritin results just came in. It's at 9. The normal range is 22-275.
Hi everyone,

I went in for some blood work today: CRP, ESR, CBC, DKS, Iron, UIBC, and TIBC to check on my anemia. (I have to wait on the ferritin results; last time it was only 4.) Everything looks okay except for:

test

value

reference range

RBC

6.13

4.43-5.88

RDW

14.6

11.6-14.3

MPV

11.4

7.0-10.4

hematocrit

0.485

0.390-0.487

ESR

1

2-12

My RBC count has *always* been normal. I made sure to drink water an hour before the draw and didn't overexert myself since the lab is just a five-minute walk from my place. My RDW and ESR have always been fine too. Last time, my UIBC and TIBC were high, but they're back in the normal range now (UIBC 64, TIBC 76). My iron was at 8 last time, and now it's up to 12 (ref. 7-33) after three months on iron supplements (though I hadn't taken any vitamins or supplements for about two weeks before this test). My MPV is usually a little high. Hematocrit is normal, though maybe right on the edge.
There’s a note on the report that says 38/39. I'm not really sure if that's just an administrative thing or a comment on the values.

I don't smoke or drink, and I try to stay pretty healthy overall.
Thanks in advance if anyone has thoughts on these numbers!

Best,
Maria Fisher46 said:Hi there,

I hope you've already been through a thorough medical workup, because if this isn't one of your first complex lab tests, then the HLA typing might not actually give us the clarity we’re looking for based on your history.

I won't get too deep into the specifics here on a forum, though.

The HLA typing shows a genetic predisposition toward systemic autoimmune diseases. For instance, HLA-DRB1*03 increases the risk of systemic lupus erythematosus by about two to three times compared to the general population. You also have HLA B8, which is seen more often in patients with inflammatory muscle diseases within overlap syndromes, specifically juvenile dermatomyositis. That unfortunate HLA-DRB1*03 could also mean a slightly higher risk for juvenile systemic scleroderma (especially since you also carry HLA-DRB1*11, which is linked to increased systemic scleroderma risk), and it carries an even higher risk for Sjogren's Syndrome. Now, HLA-DRB1*03 is also tied to a slightly increased risk for MS, but that's very minimal.

You're still quite far from having an extremely high risk for systemic lupus erythematosus. If you had the HLA typing combination of HLA typing (A1-B8-DR3), your lifetime risk would be ten times higher, and that would significantly bump up the risk for other systemic autoimmune issues, too. But you have A2-B8-DR3.

Additionally, you have a genetic predisposition for autoimmune thyroid diseases, type 1 diabetes, and celiac disease—though I should mention that this assumes the typing was done with enough detail.

It's important to remember that you don't necessarily have to develop any of these conditions. It's just a predisposition.

I should also point out why I mentioned that the typing needs to be "detailed." In your case, the testing was done at low resolution using only two digits, rather than the full four-digit precision.

I hope my opening sentence makes sense now; this specific test can sometimes create more questions than answers, and it definitely shouldn't be the starting point for evaluating a patient with unclear symptoms.

Good luck!

Hi,

thanks so much for such a detailed response!

Unfortunately, I've already had a pretty thorough workup and everything seemed fine. My diagnoses so far include LPR/GERD and esophageal motility issues, plus some bouts of constipation (though my colonoscopy was normal). I've also dealt with some vertigo, slight thickening of the carotid arteries, and systolic hypertension. Looking at my labs, I had an ECP of 18.0 ug/L, ASO at 243 IU/mL, and triglycerides at 3.3 mmol/L. Also, there's a 4 mm cyst on the upper left third of my thyroid lobe.

I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm extremely sensitive to the sun—I get a rash on my back just being in the shade during the summer.

In your opinion, is there anything else I should look into, or should I just stick to a healthy lifestyle and hope nothing develops?

Thanks again for the help!

Best regards
Hi everyone!

I had some bloodwork done to check my MHC typing because I've been dealing with a persistent low-grade fever since May 2020. It usually hits around 99.5°F, and I've been feeling hot and sweating quite a bit. My Vitamin D is between 63-71, and my TSH looks normal.

Here are the results: (I used a vertical bar to separate the two values)

HLA-A*
02 | - (might be homozygous)

HLA-B*
08 | 41

HLA-C*
NT | NT (not typed)

HLA-DRB1*
03 | 11

HLA-DqB1*
02 | 03

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me make sense of these!

Thanks!
