What are your thoughts on Natasha Kampusch? in Psychology ·
I was watching this interview tonight with that girl who was held captive for eight years by that absolute psycho, and I honestly couldn't wrap my head around how incredibly poised, rational, and totally well-adjusted she seemed! I went into it expecting to see someone completely broken or terrified, but instead, there she was just absolutely crushing it. I was genuinely mesmerized by her strength. As for that kidnapper, I swear I wanted to reach through the screen and take him out myself! What do you all think about this?
Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
I honestly felt all those pains just melt away once I had my baby.
It’s like magic, really! Before that, I couldn't even dream of dealing with my period without reaching for some Advil, but now, at most, I just get this tiny little tightness in my lower back or stomach every once in a while. The only real change is that my flow is about three times heavier than it used to be, but a few other women I know have told me they experienced the exact same thing. So, there's definitely hope out there (at least for some of you)!
Best,

Oh my gosh, please! This life is honestly enough hell for anyone. Being young and actually missing out on the absolute best years of your life—years that are supposed to be dedicated to learning AND having a blast! Yes, I said fun. If you don't even know what that word means, you should probably go look it up in a dictionary.
Ha, now everyone is going to start bugging you about your computer instead of actually helping you fix your problems. Sorry!

I stumbled upon your blog yesterday, and wow, you really are quite the little philosopher, aren't you!
Honestly, I can't even tell what's actually bothering you from everything you've written here.
It sounds like you're miserable when you're stuck in school because you can't get out, you're miserable during the holidays because they're ending too soon and you won't go anywhere, and you wouldn't go anywhere anyway since you're always glued to your computer. You're miserable because you don't have a girlfriend, but then again, you aren't even looking for one because you don't have the cash, and we all know you need cash if you want to find a girl.
You take yourself and life way too seriously.
I just don't get it. Find some kind of goal in life or just find something to look forward to! Plant a flower and watch it grow, or adopt a dog, get him cleaned up, and just soak in all that love and gratitude he gives you. Even something simple like sweeping the front porch or folding the laundry would help. If you're such a tech wizard, why don't you just enroll at Harvard? Then you'd actually be someone.
For instance, whenever I’m feeling totally overwhelmed at work—like my boss is riding my back—or if my hormones are acting up, I just grab the kids and the dog and we head out on a random adventure. The last time we did that, we hopped on a train and headed down to Long Beach. We had never been there before, and we had the absolute best time! We stuffed ourselves with ice cream and spent the afternoon splashing around in the Net. One time, I took a friend out to Vienna for lunch, another time I took my son to Venice, and just recently, I finally talked my husband, the kids, and a friend into going out to a farm to steal some corn and plums. We had such a blast, and my friend actually managed to fill three whole bags with corn! It’s true—you don't need much to clear your head. I still remember back in high school, this same friend and I used to eat garlic and roasted peppers at my house and then walk around outside just to make everyone smell! We had the most wonderful time.
Just go do something that brings joy to you or someone you care about. It really does help.
Anyway, take care!

Besides, how on earth can you claim to know what women want better than I do? Look, I’m a woman, so I think I have a pretty good handle on the subject! Honestly, nothing in my life has been more tedious than dating some gorgeous guy who turns out to be incredibly boring. The whole thing is only interesting for the first fifteen seconds, and then after that ---🙂The one thing you actually got right is that they can be such bores and total buzzkills. I remember this one friend of mine who wouldn't stop droning on about this supposedly perfect woman he called his "princess." It was always "oh, she's my princess" this and "my princess" that, and he'd insist that if he couldn't land her, he didn't want anyone else. BTW, the poor girl didn't even know who he was. I used to give him a massive wide berth just to avoid getting stuck listening to another one of his "princess" lectures.

Mark Davis14, you are seriously overthinking this whole situation! Honestly, girls aren't going to reject you because of one little thing or another. My grandmother always used to say—there is a perfect match for everyone out there. I really think you’d have a much better time if you didn't build up these massive, thick walls of excuses and obstacles around yourself. You keep telling yourself you're unattractive, or dim-witted, or lacking insight, or broke, or just not a "cool guy," and then you take it a step further by claiming you're actually the most repulsive person ever! It sounds like you're just being incredibly hard on yourself, and frankly, I think you're totally exaggerating. Nobody is perfect, and trust me, those women you've put on such high pedestals aren't perfect either. In fact, I bet some of them are sitting there feeling exactly the same way about themselves that you do about yourself! Are they actually right about that?

"A prototype for an ugly man"? Oh, please! Don't you realize that girls don't actually fall for guys just because they're pretty, but because they're interesting and have a great sense of humor? Personally, I've always gone for guys who were charming and knew exactly how to make me laugh. I never gave a damn about looks as long as we could have a blast together and he made me feel truly special. Honestly, he could have been a total wreck with a massive hunchback and a black eye patch for all I care! It’s the absolute truth, but if you guys just stay cooped up inside your houses and act too embarrassed to even strike up a conversation with a girl, then you're never going to meet anyone anyway. Get out there and take action, boys!

Why on earth would you go after him like that? He came to the forum because he actually needs someone to talk to about the things weighing on his mind, and instead, you just jump down his throat! Don't listen to her, she's being totally mean-spirited!

Listening to you, I can tell you’re still incredibly young, probably just finishing up high school, and honestly, I could practically be your mom, so take this to heart. At your age, nobody has truly figured themselves out yet. One day you’re just a kid obsessed with video games and classes, and the next, you’re suddenly an adult staring down a future without having any clue who you actually are or what you want to do with your life. Even though I’ve moved past those years, I still vividly remember being in high school with my friends; we were exactly the same way—total outsiders, punks, the social rejects. We thought life was a total joke and looked down on all those miserable, clueless old people because they just didn't "get" it. We spent our time reading these super deep books and blasting intense music, thinking we were geniuses when, in reality, we were just lost kids struggling to navigate the line between childhood and adulthood. We were so vulnerable, so scared, and so hopelessly in love. If I could go back with the perspective I have now, I know I would’ve had way more fun and worried way less about all the nonsense. It sounds to me like you’re just feeling isolated and maybe could really use a good heart-to-heart with your parents, assuming they actually listen to you.
Please don't let thoughts of depression or suicide weigh you down. You have an entire lifetime stretching out ahead of you, filled with family, kids, lifelong friendships, travels, and so many hobbies and passions you haven't even discovered yet. Just hang in there until you grow into yourself.
Forgive me if I sound like I’m lecturing you, but I really needed to talk to someone who had been through it all and actually knew how to listen and understand, so I figure it won't hurt you to hear this from me too. Just relax, man!

Maybe it would be a lot easier for you if you just viewed everything through the lens of wonky brain chemistry, because honestly, that’s exactly what’s going on here! It isn't something to be ashamed of, it isn't a curse, and it definitely isn't some dark, heavy secret you have to hide from the world; it is quite simply just some MALIGNANT CHEMISTRY. If you look at it that way, it becomes so much easier to just head over to a doctor, get a dose of the right medicine, and start turning the tide in your favor. Even sitting down for a chat with a psychiatrist is a necessary step to get everything sorted out properly. Why wouldn't you give it a shot? You only get one life, so why on earth would you choose to spend it being miserable instead of happy? Everything really does come down to you. You have absolutely nothing to lose except for those "crazy" thoughts of yours. At the end of the day, you can always just crawl back to where you are right now if you prefer being unhappy—though I certainly wouldn't recommend that! Be a man and fight for yourself (even if you act like a total pushover 🙂). Good luck, and please let me know what you decide to do!
