I’d honestly just report everything anonymously to the leadership at the Mayo Clinic... at the end of the day, it’s a private organization, and it's in the owner's best interest to ensure staff actually treat patients with some decency... this isn't some government-run facility where they can just do whatever they want without consequences...
Potential causes for loss of smell: - Acute viral, bacterial, or allergic inflammation of the upper respiratory tract (think rhinitis or sinus infections) - Structural issues within the nasal cavity, such as a deviated septum, polyps, or tumors - Exposure to toxic substances, drugs, or certain medications via inhalation - Radiation exposure, whether incidental or part of medical treatment - Issues involving mucus secretion levels - Nerve damage affecting the olfactory system - Endocrine imbalances - Psychophysiological factors
So, take your pick... 😁 In my opinion, you’re likely dealing with either a mild viral infection or something psychophysiological in nature. I just hope it isn't caused by that stale air in the restroom you seem to enjoy so much... 😂

edit: I didn't see any follow-up until now. Does it bother you? Or have you just gotten used to things being this way since that doctor's visit?...
Your diabetes isn't the cause here, at least not specifically regarding your nails. With diabetes, you start seeing wounds pop up out of nowhere that just won't heal, which eventually leads to tissue necrosis.
Just go see a podiatrist, an aesthetician, or whatever—someone who handles feet—and ask them. If they tell you it's a medical issue, then head to a doctor. That nail situation doesn't sit right with me. It might actually be a surgical matter rather than something for a butcher to handle. 😁

It's been going on for such a long time now. How can I find out if it's a fungus?
As for my blood sugar, when I get my routine blood work done, do they check that too?
No surgeon is going to amputate your fingers just because you think they’re ugly. If you’re really that desperate about it, you’d have better luck talking to a butcher...
You claim your nails look weird, that they seem to grow from two different spots and create some kind of destructive interference (as if we were discussing wave 😁 interference)? Look, if your nails are actually growing in an irregular way, that's a job for a general surgeon. And as for the swelling... maybe they're ingrown? Honestly, you should just rip them out and let new ones grow in...
As for the whole beauty thing... since when do two little toes define a person's appearance? Since when is that what makes a first impression in life, which is the most important thing? Come on, get serious...
He’s likely talking about an angioplasty... basically, they thread a catheter through an artery—usually via a small incision in the groin—straight up to the heart. Once there, they inflate a tiny balloon to clear out the blockage and might even pop in a stent to keep things open so the issue doesn't just come right back. It's nothing too crazy. From what I gather, you usually head home the same day and they just use local anesthesia.

And how much longer am I supposed to just sit here and "wait for time" to do its thing? Is there anything actually available to speed this up? I need to see some progress, otherwise, I’m honestly starting to spiral into a bit of a panic. 😢
Maybe try using a steel brush and some wet sandpaper...
frozenridge43 said:I feel like I'm dealing with some incredibly intense cramping. Should I try taking Voltaren or maybe just use the Voltaren cream?
I’d suggest starting with ibuprofen—Advil or Motrin—or even just some Aspirin first. If that doesn't touch the pain, then move on to the Voltaren... though it's really up to you how you want to handle it.
If the pain is truly severe, go see a doctor. At the end of the day, I can only offer my own assumptions here... and I'm certainly no medical expert.
frozenridge43 said:Fine, but I haven't actually done anything strenuous enough to pull something. Is it normal to feel this kind of pain when taking a deep breath in certain positions?😢
It’s entirely possible. When you breathe, your rib cage expands, which puts tension on all the muscles and ligaments holding it together. You mentioned the pain spikes when you twist to the left—to me, that points directly toward a neuromuscular issue. We could be looking at a pinched nerve, spasms in the intercostal muscles, or even inflammation in the costochondral joints. This type of discomfort can linger for days. If things take a turn for the worse suddenly, or if the pain doesn't let up after a few days, go see a doctor.
Douglas Ortiz94 said:To be honest, I can't quite decide which is more idiotic: being stuck with a male name or a female one. 🙂 When I sit back and really weigh things out, dating women feels even more idiotic than I originally thought. It just makes me look like a complete pushover. 😁
Look, I don't want any of them. Period. Does anyone have actual advice on how to get rid of this redness? Please.
It seems like you have a thing for men with scars. 😁
They say time heals all wounds, but honestly, that’s a bit of a cop-out. I've always found that sentiment to be overly simplistic—almost dismissive of the actual grit required to move past something. Time doesn't actually do the heavy lifting; people do. It just provides the distance necessary to stop feeling the sting every single second. You don't just wake up one morning in Chicago or anywhere else and find everything perfectly fine because a calendar page turned. You have to work through it. It's a slow, often frustrating process of rebuilding, and if you wait for "time" to do the work for you, you might be waiting forever.
It’s most likely just a pinched muscle or some ligament strain. If this thing doesn't clear up in a few days, or if the pain starts getting more intense, you should probably head to a doctor to rule out anything more serious...
Paladino is definitely the choice, but the real question is who actually steps up to succeed him... I don't really get why you're pushing for someone younger. In my experience, the older crowd tends to bring much more seasoned expertise to the table—especially in medicine—and they’re usually better at staying on top of the latest advancements in their field.
Carol Kelly34 said:Can anyone here with actual medical expertise explain this to me? Or even just give me some clarity... about a year ago, my husband was told his white blood cell count was elevated. He brushed it off at the time, but now the same issue is cropping up again (it keeps flagging on his physicals). He’s gone through all the standard tests and nothing significant has turned up, so now they are sending him in for a bone marrow biopsy. I’m wondering—is this procedure being ordered because they suspect something like leukemia, or is it just a standard preventative measure? His white cell count hits 13 sometimes, though it drops down to 11 occasionally, but that's mostly it. Everything else, like his ESR, looks perfectly fine. Do we have a reason to be afraid? Thanks in advance!🙏
It is the duty of any responsible doctor to rule out every single possibility, including the worst-case scenarios. If those white blood cell counts are consistently high, it could stem from irregular morphogenesis, which means they need to analyze the bone marrow to ensure everything is functioning correctly. They have to find the root cause.

Look... if someone’s mere existence irritates you so much that you start attacking them for no reason at all, then there is clearly something wrong with your own mental state. You're either neurotic, jealous, or just plain unstable. Something is definitely off with you. 😁
