Was Braveheart the worst Oscar winner? in Movies ·
Nathan Myers28 said:Give me a break with you people and Reservoir Dogs—honestly, just leave Tarantino alone! Why can't we get back to making epic movies like Braveheart? It’s like people would rather dwell on trashy, divisive propaganda than appreciate true cinema. If this gets me banned, then so be it—my brain is clearly operating on a much higher level than yours anyway.

Come on, patriot, take a chill pill...😉>

Laura Palmer25 said:Honestly, I actually thought 300 was one of the best films I've seen all year, regardless of what those IMDb ratings say (which often lack any actual common sense). I liked it mostly because of how original the adaptation felt and how well it captured that graphic novel vibe. Action isn't really my thing anyway, so I don't care much for that genre.

To each their own. 🙂

Nice metaphor you found there... 🤣

Nathan Myers28 said:Honestly, go ahead and ban me—I truly don't care—but anyone claiming Braveheart is a bad movie is clearly losing their mind, and saying Reservoir Dogs is anything less than a masterpiece is just plain wrong.

You're hopeless...

Laura Palmer25 said:You took the words right out of my mouth. Knowledge is actually a fairly solid concept. You notice how most critics—and honestly, even the general public—usually agree on whether a movie is a masterpiece or a total disaster? (Don't crucify me for mentioning critics; I actually make an effort to read their reviews in the papers). There are certain constant elements of quality or failure that you can spot in a film. Personal opinions will always vary from person to person, but I still think the consensus carries more weight.

True, true. There are definitely good and bad elements in films that almost everyone notices. But I still maintain that criticism (though I personally think it shouldn't even exist) should focus strictly on the technical side of filmmaking rather than "the other stuff," which is often just as important, if not more... If we're going to follow the majority voice as some mass that's easily swayed or misled, I wouldn't put much faith in them... Take 300 for example; in my book, it's one of the worst movies of the year, yet it sits at an 8.1/10 on IMDb with over 132,000 votes according to their metrics...

p.s. why would anyone crucify you for reading critic reviews (that's what they actually are, by the way)? Man, just do whatever you want...

Nathan Myers28 said:I honestly think this thread should just be deleted—calling Braveheart a stupid movie is like saying when you poop, you eat crap; it’s just an absurdly false statement! Braveheart is an absolute masterpiece, and it’s right up there with Rocky, which was essentially the childhood defining moment for anyone who grew up back then (though I’m sure you wouldn't get that, being part of this MTV generation). As for Reservoir Dogs, calling it trash is just wrong, just like how people dismiss all of Tarantino's films.

This is banally stupid. ☕

Laura Palmer25 said:It's a toss-up for me. And honestly, I think anyone who watches enough movies and has seen a decent amount of stuff earns the right to have an opinion.

I watch a ton of movies too, yet I'm still second-guessing my own takes while you seem pretty set in yours. Don't you think "film knowledge" is a bit more subjective than people make it out to be? 🙂

But look, this isn't just some amateur mistake found in low-budget American B-movies... even Almodovar makes massive blunders in his film "The Bad Education": "Manuel Berenguer claims giving a walkman to John as a gift. According to the plot, this was before Ignacio's death in 1977. The walkman was introduced to the market in 1979." according to imdb-a

I know. Honestly surprised nobody called him out on it...

Look, I’m not gonna get into whether Tarantino's work is better than Clint's since I've only seen this one from Tarantino. But I honestly don't get where you guys get off deciding which movie is superior?! You really think you have the authority to judge that? I know I wouldn't...

Honestly, Se7en and The Usual Suspects didn't even snag a Best Picture nomination...

Forget about those awards. Who actually cares about an Oscar? That thing always misses the mark...

My favorite part is always the bomb detonation 😍

that 1-5 second window while James Bond is busy stopping everything at 007 😍

Update: Miller ends up killing Vance. 😁 Rainy day.

Ivo is a joke ☕
Linda Gonzalez16 said:Look, I already said the genre isn't really my thing. But if you're dead set on a lead, swap Zeta-Jones for Virginia Madsen instead 😁 .
Picture it: Hopkins and Freeman are residents, Al Pacino is the administrator, and Robert De Niro plays the wealthy buyer who decides to tear the place down to build a luxury hotel 😁 . Everyone’s got a deep backstory linking them together—plenty of romance and sharp, witty dialogue... none of that mindless violence or swearing, just top-tier acting from an incredible cast.
By the end, De Niro makes friends for life, even though the facility still goes under. In the final scene, some billionaire mogul buys up the land and sits back waiting for the local zoning laws to change.

That's the pitch. 🙏
Linda Gonzalez16 said:I could totally see a movie about four guys in an assisted living facility sharing life stories😬. Honestly, those actresses would fit right in there. Think along the lines of a low-key indie flick like "Sideways." The only things that don't click for me are the genre and the director😁.
But hey, everyone’s entitled to their own dream movie.

aha. since you brought up assisted living, I bet Anthony Hopkins and Morgan Freeman would be perfect for that role.
Can't picture this Jones in this movie at all, especially since it's a thriller...
