I must say, I also interpreted Fuchs’s point quite differently yesterday...

So, is there actually any news regarding changes starting this Monday, or are we just stuck with everything staying exactly as it was this week? I caught bits and pieces of the announcement while I was driving, though I wasn't exactly paying full attention...

I suspect velvetskipper11 is just poking fun at the decisions coming down from headquarters...
Personally, I find this whole situation somewhat contradictory; on one hand, there’s the push for remote learning, yet on the other, everyone is insisting on the importance of traditional social interaction...

As far as I am concerned, there isn't much to say... If you ask me what's missing from this whole situation, it would be a much stricter avoidance of private gatherings, particularly those held indoors where things can get out of hand...
I find myself unable to support either that approach or the idea of an online school.

So, you’re basically doing the exact opposite of everything the head coach has laid out... Look, I’m not judging your lifestyle choices, really, but the playbook is pretty straightforward: no yellow cards on the weekends and absolutely no messing around with those guys who have such massive egos...

We’ve been steering clear of taking on any interns lately, mostly because if even one person catches something, the entire shift has to go into quarantine... which is just a nightmare. In my own case, I ended up having to work a totally isolated schedule just to make sure my shifts didn't overlap with anyone else's, and I stopped bringing them in altogether, even though I usually have at least two working alongside me...

Initially, we’re going to see those specific generations being bypassed during the hiring process...

driftingtinker said:So, my whole class basically tanked yesterday, getting nothing but Cs—though honestly, in any sane era, they would’ve just failed outright—all because nobody has a clue how to solder. I mean, they were supposed to pick up those basics back in middle school shop class, but clearly, absolutely zero people learned a thing, and they didn't catch up in freshman year either.

Just a bunch of future electrical engineers who can't even measure voltage or solder a basic connection to save their lives.🙂

So, where does that leave us, and what is there left to even discuss?

It isn’t merely a question of how much practice one gets, but rather the nature of certain specialized subjects that simply cannot be replicated through an online interface the way, say, history might be... If a course requires you to be physically present in a laboratory, where a professor can guide your hands and explain the nuances of the equipment in real-time, then an online module just falls short. A friend of mine has a son studying surveying—he’s a surveyor himself, having graduated from the exact same program—and he insists that trying to learn those specific technical skills online does absolutely nothing for your actual comprehension...

My son is currently weighing his options for a four-year vocational program, but when I look at the sheer chaos unfolding in the world right now—it seems like this madness might just persist for several more years... which leads me to wonder if I should steer him toward a traditional prep school instead. Or perhaps, quite frankly, he shouldn't bother with formal schooling at all and simply spend his time studying various arrangements on YouTube...

Well, thanks to you ladies for all the advice—now that we’ve finally managed to break through this fever and make it through the night... but regarding those masks, my boy was just a little kid last year so he didn't bother wearing one in class, though apparently, that hasn't changed even now that he's in fifth grade... they still make them wear them during computer lab because the seating isn't set up like a standard classroom, even though they sit shoulder-to-shoulder in their regular classes anyway, and he mentions that the teachers are actually wearing masks in the classroom too...

It seems, quite clearly, that it all just comes down to whoever happens to be in a mood for pulling someone's leg at any given moment...
I suppose I should feel some sense of satisfaction seeing them get mocked like this... though, on second thought, perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to celebrate such a spectacle...🤔

My kids only have to wear them during finals, though at their school, the policy shifts depending on the class size and how much breathing room there is between desks... In their case, there are only fifteen students in a massive classroom, so everyone basically has their own private island of a desk. They haven't dealt with any outbreaks or flu season spikes yet, so I’m honestly quite relieved they don't have to bother with them otherwise...

My pediatrician actually told me right from the very first visit that the actual numbers on the thermometer aren't nearly as important as how my little one is behaving... She said if the kid is totally wiped out at 99.5, then sure, go ahead and treat it, but if they’re still running around playing despite a fever of 101.3, just let them be... And that is exactly what I've been doing... though I suppose we might end up getting some dirty looks from the neighbors for being such lax parents

Amanda Hughes37 said:Everyone is obsessing over head injuries... meanwhile, even with three kids, I'm hardly an expert since they rarely get sick—or if they do, it's over in forty-eight hours.
I take mine off too, but even after Advil, the fever hit 101.8.

Anyway, we're drifting off-topic.

My youngest was dealing with this just two days ago. It started with diarrhea, and then the high fever and headaches kicked in. Fast forward to today—it's been three days and he's acting like himself again. I didn't jump to conclusions about COVID because he's already had it, so I'm assuming it was just some other nasty virus... I did give him some Advil once his temperature climbed north of 100 because he was looking so lethargic...

Whether they can pull it off or not is entirely their business... but this feels different, doesn't it? For the first time, someone is actually being barred from showing up. It reminds me of a close friend of mine back in 2002; she ended up signing those papers to discharge herself from the hospital against medical advice, simply because she refused to sit through one more intake interview.

I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could possibly guard themselves against the flu, unless they were to spend a fortnight entirely sequestered in some remote cabin alone... If there is a high school senior at home and he has a younger brother who is still attending school, and that brother happens to come through the door looking even slightly symptomatic, then that senior simply must go into quarantine.
The only way out would be to fabricate a story, perhaps claiming he hadn't been in contact with his brother at all, suggesting instead that he had been staying over at his grandmother’s house out in the suburbs during those days.

I mean, what’s the logic there... if students in Oregon were cleared to sit for their finals last year, then surely they'll be permitted to do the same this time around, right?

Just imagine some poor, unfortunate soul who ends up stuck in self-isolation for both periods... and then, at the end of it all, they haven't even finished high school. They won't be able to land any job that actually requires a diploma...

Amanda Hughes37 said:I must be losing my mind, honestly.

Honestly, I think I might be right there with you. This afternoon, I’m actually heading out to the cemetery to leave some flowers for a man who passed away from COVID-19—someone who hadn't even stepped foot outside his house in nine years...
It seems those twisted minds at Bloomberg and Markoticka have gone and drawn this absurd parallel where infection equals being irresponsible, and now people are actually weaponizing that logic, as if anyone can be held accountable for simply being stuck in isolation...

Has there really been absolutely no way to pivot or adjust this over the course of the last year?
It is just your classic American bureaucracy... endless red tape, a thousand different complications, yet not a single coherent solution in sight.
