Tried it out—turns out it was a little too big for me...

Look, here's the deal—that card is pushing upwards of 200 or even 300 FPS in most games at 1080p. So, the real question is: does your monitor even have that many hertz? If your refresh rate is lower than the frame rate the card is pumping out, you aren't actually seeing those extra frames on the screen anyway—you’re just making the GPU work itself to death for nothing. Honestly, it’s pretty smart to just cap your max FPS in-game to match whatever your monitor's refresh rate is. You can handle that through Vsync, Gsync, Freesync, or just by using the Nvidia or AMD software. If you set an RTX 4070 Ti to 1080p and cap it like that, your GPU usage is going to drop way below its limit—maybe even under 50% in some titles. It kind of feels like throwing money down the drain when you aren't even utilizing what you paid for. Of course, there's also the chance your CPU is bottlenecking you if it's too weak to keep up with that beast of a GPU. It's pretty rare to find a game where you actually *need* a card that powerful at 1080p to get decent performance—maybe something like cyberpunk with ray tracing cranked up—but even then, you've got DLSS and FSR to bail you out.
That doesn't really add up... I mean, if that were true, how are people with 60Hz monitors still out there running games at 100 or even more FPS? 🤷

Appreciate the tip—I’m running a 1080p monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate, so I think I'll just cap my FPS right now and see what happens...
Thanks!

It’s total overkill for 1080p.

There’s no such thing as overkill, man!
I mean, let's be real—even you'd jump at the chance to have that kind of overkill if it were sitting right in front of you.... 🙂 😉

It could be an ultrawide 3440 x1440 setup, but people usually just mean the standard 2560x1440 when they talk about it.

Regardless, Ronald Bishop58, were you asking if a specific 4070Ti model is worth the price, or if the 4070Ti in general is a solid pick for "1080p, maybe 1440p"?

For 1440p, it's fine if you've got the cash to burn, though it's not exactly a steal.
For 1080p, it's total overkill.

I used to have—and actually still have—an old Palit Gamerock 1070, and it still handles most modern games pretty decently. Then, about ten days ago, I managed to snag an Asus RX 6750 XT for $1.25, just my lucky day...

Now I'm looking back at this since its release date is this month, but obviously, I'm not looking to blow that much money—especially since I've got the 6750 XT which actually performs quite well even at 1440p. I've got a primary 1080p monitor and a secondary 1440p one, but I stick to the 1080p for reading stuff; the desktop icons and fonts are just easier on the eyes than on 1440p. I'll keep an eye on the prices for this card, though, because like I said, I'm really interested in the Palit version—I know they're solid. So far, the best price I've found is $2.50, but even that feels like too much. If the price drops sometime down the road, that's the one I'd grab.......

Yeah, that’s a 2K monitor—basically any screen with a 2560x1440 resolution. How do you guys not know this? There's also 4K, though I haven't really looked into whether 8K is even out yet...

Wait, is this actually 2K?

Man, someone go make me a freaking grilled cheese...

Just Full HD for now—though I’m definitely thinking about making the jump to 1440p sooner or later...

Would love to get some expert eyes on this card.

Is there anything actually better out there that won't absolutely wreck my bank account in this same class?

Thanks

Picked this up yesterday.

Fingers crossed I didn't totally screw myself here. Any experts out there want to weigh in—did I actually snag a decent card? 🙏

Total damage: $1249
$540.00

Thinking about picking this up—looks alright to you guys?

Is it gonna be obsolete by next Tuesday, or can I actually squeeze another 5-7 years out of it if I don't push it too hard?

That’s exactly why I mentioned my case is on the smaller side. I’ve got an Nvidia card with a dual-fan cooler in there right now, and it fits... barely. There's maybe 2cm of breathing room before it hits the side panel..

Looking for some solid advice—what’s the best bang-for-your-buck GPU I can grab for under $1500?

I'm running this motherboard: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard...ev-10-11-12#kf

Got a standard midi tower case for the build.

Thanks in advance!

Quick question for the experts out there..

Which monitor setup actually makes for a better reading experience—like when I'm stuck staring at Word docs all day? Is it better to go with a higher resolution, say something like 2K, or am I better off sticking to a standard 1080p screen that just happens to have a high 160Hz refresh rate?

Thanks.

Thanks in advance!

Adam Moore3 said:It’ll work fine—did you even bother trying to hook up your laptop to the TV before jumping straight into buying a whole new rig? 🙂

Phew... Well, thanks, I guess I can breathe now...

The thing is, when I hooked my laptop up to yours, the settings suggested a lower resolution than what the 4K TV actually supports. I went ahead and forced it to the native TV resolution anyway—which was higher than "recommended"—and now I'm low-key paranoid that I'm pushing the hardware too hard. Like, am I gonna fry my motherboard or the integrated graphics or something? 🙂 🕺
Adam Moore3 said:If you’re actually planning to game at 4K... yeah, forget about picking up some used rig for $500. You’re gonna need some serious GPU horsepower to pull that off.
Now, if you just want to watch movies, you can probably get by with the integrated graphics on an Intel Core i5-12400 inside a budget build for around $1000.

Look, I'm not even a gamer—I don't play games!

I've got this laptop https://www.bestbuy.com/site/laptop.../p/EK000467298

but I'm pretty sure it doesn't support 4K. If it does, please set me straight!

If it doesn't, could you please send me some links for builds under $3-$107

Thanks in advance!

Wait, how am I supposed to use that to hook my PC up to the TV as a monitor???
