Hey everyone, it’s me again, still wrestling with my thyroid hormones 😁

I finally managed to get my referral, and I’m planning to head over to the Vineyard hospital. Does anyone happen to know the operating hours for the registration desk where I need to sign in? Or even just a rough idea of when they typically accept referrals during the day? 🤷
Sorry if this sounds like a silly question; things tend to work quite differently at the hospitals back in my hometown, and thank God, I don't have much experience navigating the Chicago hospital system yet.
It’s not that I mind waiting, really, but I have an appointment scheduled for early July where I need to present the results from these tests, and right after that, I’m heading back home—I don't actually live in Chicago. It looks like I'll have to pick up the pace and check a few different places, specifically those locations vividsailor7 mentioned, just to see which one might have the shortest wait times. 😁

Also, if I'm totally off base here and just asking out of curiosity, do you happen to know roughly how much these tests would cost at those private labs?
Thanks, everyone. There’s a Vineyard location quite close to me, so I think I'll just head over there.
It was honestly a bit of a shock to hear that the wait times can stretch from one to two months 😲; I had imagined this would be a quick procedure, much like a routine blood draw 😵, and I haven't even managed to get my referral sorted out yet.
Hello there, I'm not entirely certain if I'm asking this in the right corner of the forum, but I'll give it a shot anyway 😁

So, my doctor recommended that I get some blood work done to check my thyroid hormone levels (specifically T3, T4, and TSH), and I should have the referral from my provider in a few days.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me which hospitals or clinics in Chicago handle this kind of testing? Also, do I need to make an appointment in advance, what time should I aim to arrive—I assume early in the morning is best 🤷—and is there anything specific I should or shouldn't do right before the draw?

Any advice or insight you could share would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Could someone please explain what it actually means when an eye swab test comes back with "sterile" listed as the result for Gram bacteria? I am assuming this is a good thing, but I figured I would ask here just to be sure since my follow-up appointment isn't for another week...🙂

swiftpilot7 said:It’s probably best to give them another call just to double-check whether you need to head over to Arlington or the Rockefeller clinic. From what I recall, they perform the actual swabs at Rockefeller (that’s where I went both times), whereas at Arlington, you just drop off the samples if you had the swab done somewhere else.

Oh, thank you so much for that heads-up; I’ll definitely give them a ring.

The central office put me in touch with a lab, and one rather grumpy guy 😁 told me I could just stop by their location, but now I'm sitting here wondering if he meant the one in Arlington or the Rockefeller site. 🤷 Does anyone actually know where that Rockefeller clinic is located?

Has anyone here had any experience getting an eye swab done at the Mayo Clinic?
It turns out that eye swabs are only performed at specific specialized facilities, rather than at every local community health center like my doctor originally led me to believe 🙄. I gave them a call this morning, and while they told me I could drop by whenever I liked, everyone was so high-strung and I was feeling so flustered that I completely forgot to ask even the most basic details, like which specific department I should head to once I arrive....

I was wondering if anyone here might have some insight or personal experience to share; which location would you recommend visiting for a quick eye exam—the Downtown Center near the Neighborhood or the one over on Runjanin?

Hello everyone!

I am currently searching for a private ophthalmologist here in Chicago! I’ve been scrolling through some older posts from the last few months, and it seems like Dr. Vukas over on Fifth Avenue isn't exactly highly recommended, nor is that creepy individual from the Spanish community. 😁 Someone mentioned the Light clinic—does anyone know what their pricing is like? My specific issue is that I deal with recurring bouts of conjunctivitis (for instance, right 😢 now), so I likely need an eye swab performed 🙄. Since I live right in the heart of downtown Chicago, I would be incredibly grateful if anyone could point me toward a reliable specialist 😉
Picking up OTC meds without a prescription in Health ·
I can't speak for everyone else, but just the other day I found myself needing some prescription-only eye drops for conjunctivitis. Since I live quite a distance 186 miles from where my doctor’s office is located, we handled everything over a phone call, and she ended up emailing me an electronic prescription. When I finally showed up at the pharmacy, the pharmacist gave me this incredibly puzzled look—it was almost like she was thinking, "Wait, what on earth is an e-prescription?" 😕 Once she caught her breath, though, she started asking for my insurance card and my secondary coverage info. Even after she pulled up the digital script, she still insisted on verifying my full name, my doctor's name, and exactly which medication I was looking for. I assume she was just being thorough to make sure the right medicine went to the right person 🤷 So, I guess my question is: is this going to be the standard experience with these digital prescriptions moving forward? To be honest, I don't mind either way, since I very rarely (God forbid 🙂) find myself needing to stop by a pharmacy.

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience seeing Dr. Mio Gverić, the dermatologist based out in San Diego? If it helps provide context, I’m looking for some specialized dermatological advice regarding seborrheic dermatitis and a potentially concerning mole that has recently started changing shape. 🤷

Edited post 😁
After a quick (and honestly, a bit surprising) inventory check, I realized I actually have quite a stash on hand: a thermometer, some Band-Aids, Sudafed nasal drops, 2 x Halls, DayQuil, some Voltaren gel that I rarely find a use for, and even some Vaseline 😁 I even have this specific electrolyte mix that’s a lifesaver when dehydration starts creeping up—I picked it up last year after spending an entire week feeling absolutely miserable during a bout of stomach flu 😁 😁 😁

The Timeless Brilliance of an Unconquerable Mind

I can't quite put my finger on the title... there's that one film starring Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow... maybe something along the lines of 'The Captain and Tomorrow’s World'??

I caught this a few days ago, and honestly, it was a decent enough watch. I don't have any major complaints per se, though I did find myself wishing for a few more genuine surprises or narrative twists; instead, it felt like just another entry in that long line of standard action-thrillers we see all the time—pretty much what you'd expect. While I noticed a lot of people on the forums were pretty let down by how things wrapped up, I actually found the ending to be the highlight of the whole experience, which probably says a lot about how much I enjoyed the rest of it.

I didn't quite catch that—who actually makes this spread, and where can I track it down to buy some?
