Are we not men? We are Devo! in Music ·
The fifth album is pretty garbage, I'll give you that. But honestly, "That's Good" and "Big Mess" are absolute bangers.
I still cringe thinking about my freshman year of high school—I played a Deva greatest hits set at some party and everyone just gave me these incredibly weird looks. Needless to say, I didn't have any luck with the girls that night.

It’s all about the rhythm—without that groove, you’ve got nothing 😵

Now, some cynical folks might try to label that an Oedipus complex, but hey, let them talk.

Otherwise, what's the purpose? To just say, "Hey everyone, look, I sang 'Knockin' on heaven's door' too!"? If that's the goal, just head to a karaoke bar and try to mimic the record as closely as possible.

Sure, but in that case, it makes more sense to cover something that wasn't actually perfect to begin with.

The point of the song isn't about raw power or just hitting someone in the gut—that’s not what it's getting at, much like how people misread the meaning behind Isolation. 😲
Isolation—it’s basically just that raw, rudimentary rhythm machine and a synthesizer recorded inside a refrigerator.

Honestly, they should have just dealt with the "Dianes" by hitting them square in the gut.

The '75 release "Toys in the Attic" is an absolute masterpiece. To me, the title track stands as the definitive 🙂 rock anthem of the entire decade. They even have "Lose Yourself"—minus the hip-hop influence—which honestly hits harder 😳, plus "Sweet Emotion" is such a massive hit. It was that specific moment in time where Aerosmith sounded like this wild, unholy fusion of Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and AC/DC 🙏 🙏 🙏
I haven't really bothered diving deep into the rest of their discography yet...

Just putting it out there—I'm selling a semi-detached home for $13 😉

They dropped their last piece of sludge-infused rock back in '87, and honestly, there’s no need to go digging through their later recordings 🙂
but for that earlier era, you can put together an absolute killer double-CD compilation of nothing but pure hits.

Top-tier band 👍
Anyone who hates them clearly just doesn't get it.
(And look, if David Fronta wants to be indifferent, that's totally fine by me)

So, any idea how much the buy-in is going to be?

Don't go calling it "nice 'n' sleazy"—that's actually a beautiful vibe. Especially on a DVD, or say, at some festival where an old-school stripper puts on a full show to that track 🙏
. But honestly, I’ll never understand why people hate on them so much.

To band is the absolute essence of punk—they were totally unlikable 🙂
and they had Manzarek on keys right when the whole world was frantically fighting against the same 🙂
plus, they were old and frankly unattractive 🙂
later on, they became the most unpredictable group you could possibly imagine 🙂
and through every single phase, they managed to stumble upon some genuinely great songs 🙂
even if they didn't give a damn about making albums feel like coherent pieces of art—it was always just a matter of cramming everything they had onto two discs 🙂

Isn't playing 'for Eliza' with your junk a little bit indecent? 👍

And then you’ve got the socially conscious types—kind of like the kid reciting this track...

"What's the deal with McDonald's? They pour a massive fortune into advertising, all in a desperate attempt to polish their image as some kind of caring, eco-friendly corporation..."

Spot on... honestly, if you feel like you need to figure out whether a band is being ironic before you can even justify listening to them, you're being a total snob 😉 (that’s just a general observation—I know zLi isn't a snob)

But don't you basically have this habit of hating on ironic bands before you even hear them? 😉

You certainly have a way with storytelling 👍

So, why’d you leave your whole persona back at the local gym yesterday and decide to bring all that heavy lifting onto the stage instead? 🙂
Alright, I'm upping my bid by 50 and calling it!
