What kind of metal are we talking about here? Steel or aluminum? What’s the goal?

If you want a solid, well-built case, 1mm steel is definitely the way to go.

He’s probably gonna view that as high-level math 😬

I'll eventually get it all sorted out, though honestly, it’s not looking too bad as it is. It’s just that this damn motherboard has the power connector placed in the absolute worst spot imaginable...

Check out the pics... 😁

It’s got a Pentium 4 2 GHz Northwood, an Intel stock cooler running on 5V, a Barica 40GB drive, and a Chieftec 360W PSU. For cooling, there's just some random 120mm fan on the exhaust at 5V and an 80mm fan taped over with electrical tape, also at 5V. Case is a Neverpower, can't remember the exact model. Honestly? It's a super quiet build.

Then there's my old one: A64 3200, Zalman 7000B with a 92mm GT fan on 5V, an Epox 9 NPA with a blue Zalman and an AMD stock fan on 5V that doubles as the GPU cooler. Power comes from an AOpen (built by FSP) 300W unit with a Coolermaster 12cm fan, plus an 80mm ADDA fan at 5V blowing on an 80GB Maxtor.

You can tell I didn't care about looks for either of these. I was just chasing silence and keeping things cheap. 🙂

Are you using those little rubber feet on the edge of that Zalman? 😛

My motherboard and CPU should be here tomorrow. Once they arrive, I'll post some pics of my second build—it's gonna be a total beast after all the PC Modding I do to it. 😎

Joseph Carter9 said:Looking back at this again, I gotta say—it’s definitely better than my current setup (😠), but maybe not for long... I’m actually thinking about putting something similar together soon (while I’m still living in my apartment before heading off to college 😢). I grabbed that tutorial, so I'll be messing around with it and seeing if I can tweak things... might have it done in about 20 days, assuming my bank account can handle it.

The guy also put together an awesome painting tutorial right here, and you can follow his latest project on this same forum:

As far as clear coats go—the cheap ones are actually fantastic. I've tried other Dupli-Color sprays, but they honestly don't even come close to this Rallye-Paint.

It looks to me like that top vent is actually blowing air inward instead of pulling it out. I mean, sure, it looks cool, but still...

PS. Seriously though, you gotta check this out, it's awesome:

More fans? 😲 You already modded the thing, you don't really want the case blowing apart all over your room, do you... 😁 Besides, there are way too many anyway...

Fixing this image link again... 😁

Unlike that first one I actually really dig, but this looks way too bright...

Sure, you could get a factory window if you wanted, but trying to tackle this via DIY or some Home workshop setup? Absolutely not.

They just bought a pre-made disc with the window already built in—see what they did there?

That drive is a Western Digital Raptor, and those things come with a super complex factory window. Trying to pull off a DIY version? Honestly, it’s pretty much impossible...

Here’s my latest project...

Specs: running an Intel Pentium III, 128MB RAM, and a 4.3GB hard drive...
