Alright, thanks guys. I won't keep bugging you with questions since it’s on me now to just head down there in person and see the setup for myself. I'm heading into Chicago next week, and the timing with the renovations actually works out fine—they pushed the training sessions back just enough for me to jump straight in at the start of the season.

Not sure why I rushed into kickboxing. Guess it's because besides boxing and Taekwondo, I haven't really touched any other martial arts. Honestly, I'm looking for a lot of jumping around rather than complex hand maneuvers. With my legs, I just want to work the footwork and really start kicking hard. 😁
Anyway, I'll decide which one to pick once I see it. Is it true the membership is only $33 a month? That seems pretty cheap 😕. What does that $33 cover exactly? Training and gym access, right?
Just posted the question 😁

Just popping in from retirement!

Regarding SUBOS:

SUBOS starts their beginner groups in September.
Training was originally set for September 15th, but it’s been pushed back—at least until October 1st—due to gym renovations.
You can just show up and try out a session or two.
If you find you like it, you can download the form from www.subos.com and fill it out.
Just bring it to training and that should be enough.
There isn't really a need to worry about being late; plenty of people trickle in throughout October because different colleges have different start dates, and some folks wait until they finish physical education requirements.

(My apologies if someone already covered this; I don't quite have the time to scroll through the whole forum right now.)

Just keep an eye on the announcements at www.subos.com.
👍

So you're basically a local veteran here, then. 🙂

I checked their site, but honestly, I wasn't impressed. Couldn't find a training schedule (which is huge for me), nor any info on hours, membership fees, or if they have access to specific gyms. Maybe it’s there and I missed it...
Also, which of those sports would be the closest thing to kickboxing? Since they don't offer that specifically...

If you're looking for something budget-friendly where you can just let loose physically—and if they're still running things—www.studentunion.edu offers Muay Thai. It's mostly female students like yourself who train there, probably for the exact same reasons. And if it matters to you, the girls training there are in incredible shape, so based on what you said, you'd probably fit right in.
Classes are held over by the technical college area... in the evenings... I'm not entirely sure about the exact schedule right now...🤷 You could always just walk over and check; there should be a schedule posted on the door.
I'm just not certain if they've started their sessions yet or if they don't kick off until October...

Hey Brandon Hayes73, why don't you reach out to her and find out when the classes are?🙂

Thanks a lot. I'll check all of that out. Hopefully, I didn't miss the enrollment period, since most stuff starts in September.

Alright, I’ve scrolled through most of these posts thinking I might find something that fits, and now I think I have, but I need some input from you guys. Please give me a second of your time. 🙂
I’m leaning toward kickboxing. My main goal is to tone up because I feel a bit soft right now. I’m not overweight (5'7" and 125 lbs), but maybe I want to drop about 6 or 7 pounds. I don’t want bulky muscles; I’m looking for that lean, toned look—not "bulky," especially in my calves. Good cardio is also a priority.
I’m 20. I have an athletic build naturally, though I haven't trained at all in five years, so basically a beginner. I'm staying at the State University dorms near downtown, so ideally, the gym shouldn't be a massive trek.
Will kickboxing actually hit those goals? Or should I look into something else if you think that's a better fit? Also, college stress is constant, so I need something that works as a bit of a therapeutic release. 😁
Hopefully, I'm not being too picky.
Thanks for bearing with me.

I grab it, and there’s basically just potato with a trace amount of greens. It’s unbelievable how cheap they try to be with us. I know people will say, "Well, at least you got a meal," $1.75, but the point is nobody cares about actual nutrition. I ate those scraps and some soup. I’m still starving.

That’s not even the main issue. The real problem is that everything in those dining halls is coated in grease... soups, stews... even when I ask them to pull a piece of chicken out of the fat it was roasted in and serve it with a "carefully selected" low-fat side, I'm still screwed.

If it's fresh, I'm hitting up Walmart first thing tomorrow.

Harold Palmer23 said:I’m curious, what’s the actual flavor profile of oat bread like? And what makes someone choose oat bread specifically over other options?

Oats just sit right with me better than any other grain. I eat oatmeal constantly and want to switch things up. Since I'm big on different spreads, I've been looking for some oat bread...
In my opinion, oats are the healthiest grain out there. They're practically gluten-free—they have some, sure, but it doesn't hit you the way gluten from other grains does.

I’ve thought about it, but honestly, baking my own bread feels like too much hassle and a waste of money. I’d much rather $5.00 just buy some... but everywhere I look, nobody seems to carry it. Not sure if they even make it anymore. I'll keep hunting for that specific bread, though. Thanks.

One more thing—is that oat bread actually made with oats, or is it just an 80:20 ratio? 🙂
Most of the stuff on the shelves these days isn't even real food...

Anyone know where I can find decent oat bread? Specifically in Washington, D.C.
I've checked a few different grocery stores and they're all out of stock... anyone have any leads?

but this idea that Vitamin C actually increases mortality rates? 🙄 Wow, seriously, where on earth did you get that from! I’m dying to know who came up with that logic... do you have a link for that? I’d actually love to read it! Maybe if you're eating it by the pound, though.

Douglas Ramos provided the link (it's up there above)...it's in there, and I heard it on the radio about six months ago too...

Look, I’ve definitely dealt with my fair share of trauma over the years, but nothing quite massive enough to actually break me like this. It all kind of started hitting me during puberty... though back then, I had absolutely no clue how to manage any of it. I suppose things are a little more under control now than they used to be... maybe...

Nobody's on this forum. Everyone’s clearly passed out after a wild Saturday night. Not that I'm an expert; my schedule is basically the opposite. 😁
I don't think it's all bad. You clear your system fast, so toxins aren't sitting around (lowers colon cancer risk, supposedly). As long as your stool doesn't have an unbearable stench, you shouldn't worry too much...
Stay positive. At least you won't have weight issues and can eat like a maniac...

Not sure what else to tell you. Just look on the bright side. 😉

Actually, I take back everything I said if this issue is tanking your immune system or causing you to lose too many vitamins and minerals. If that's happening, it's serious...
But if you're healthy otherwise, no big deal. 👍

Harold Palmer23 said:And honestly, taking those vitamins more than twice a day isn't even a good idea! Just how many are you popping, Brenda Price56?
It feels like everything is harmful these days, from the very air we breathe to the random assortment of pills people swallow. We consume so much junk that, frankly, we're all headed for the same inevitable end anyway.

Fine. I'll ditch the Vitamin C and just stick to magnesium and calcium...
I don't care about the risks when it comes to magnesium. It works. Helps with muscle aches, stops cramps during my period, helps me relax... etc.
Matthew Wood2 said:I think the real issue lies within my own head. It’s hard to even put into words, but sometimes I’ll deal with a mix of solid stool and diarrhea all at once. Just a total disaster. There are days when I eat more than usual, though I try to keep things varied—meat, fruit, veggies, you name it. Sometimes I’ll grab a soda or a beer if the food feels too dry, just to make sure things keep moving... because honestly, I'd much rather deal with an upset stomach in the morning to clear everything out than face the alternative of being backed up.
But really, I don't think it's just about the diet. It’s more about that intense connection between the brain and the gut. As soon as I realize I'm heading somewhere without a restroom nearby, the panic sets in and everything goes sideways. And heaven help me if I have to go on a long road trip...

How old are you?
Did you go through some kind of trauma growing up? 🤷

Just relax. Stop stressing over every little thing. Get a book on relaxation... or better yet, buy a yoga DVD. I'm telling you, it'll help. 👍
It'll help you find some balance, settle your gut down, and all that...
Give it a shot.
Matthew Wood2 said:Honestly, I don't even know where to begin 🙄
Ever since I hit puberty, I’ve been dealing with these horrific digestive issues that make life feel almost impossible... at times. My gut health is intensely tied to my mental state, plus my digestion is incredibly fast. I've been struggling with this misery for about 15 years now. Every single morning, if I don't properly clear out on the toilet, I am simply incapable of leaving the house. Some mornings I have to go five times just to get settled, and other days I'm just completely blocked—feeling all this pressure and cramping in my stomach, and even though nothing is hard, nothing will actually come out.
Whenever I have to travel or head out somewhere, especially early in the morning or late at night—even if things had been calm up until that point—everything flips in a matter of seconds. I get hit with cramps, gas, bloating... I immediately feel that pressure in my gut and have to rush to the bathroom, followed by instant diarrhea every two minutes. More than ten years ago, I went to see a doctor because of this; they checked everything out and said it was fine. Then, the doctor referred me to a psychiatrist, whom I saw for a few months, and of course, she didn't help one bit.
On top of all that, my digestion is so rapid that I have to use the restroom every day. Sometimes I barely eat anything, yet the next day, three times more comes out of me than what I actually consumed. When my mental health is already hitting a low, this holds me back from leaving the house or even managing basic daily tasks. Over all these long years, I think I learned how to manage my digestion somehow, but despite that (especially lately), things have taken a turn for the worse. That reflex where my body just forces itself to go happens even when it shouldn't... and then I find myself having to rush back home even when there's nothing left to do.
I don't know if there's a cure for this or if I should just lock myself indoors and despair! 🤷
Maybe I've learned to live with it, but as the years pass, it's becoming exhausting. It's just draining. And when I finally venture out and that urge hits me... I turn green. I start sweating, I feel cold, I get these chills running through my entire body... and I honestly just get tired of living like this and enduring it.
Does anyone have any advice that might help me even a little bit?

Does your digestion react to everything you eat?
Maybe you need to track which foods trigger you and which ones don't...

Sounds like you might need to stick to bland, dry foods to slow things down...🤷
Don't overdo it on beans, grains, or veggies... though it's stupid of me to suggest that since those are essential for healthy digestion...

Maybe it's parasites... you probably need a full checkup to see if there's some kind of micro-organism issue.🤷

Besides hiking up my mortality rate, there aren't any other side effects? 😁

Sounds a bit stupid, but I’d honestly rather kick the bucket a few weeks early—whenever that happens, probably around age 100😉—than deal with some chronic illness in my youth because of them....

I take three, though maybe I should cut out the Vitamin C since apparently it raises mortality rates...🙄

Harold Palmer23 said:I used to take magnesium and multivitamins regularly, but then someone mentioned that they could actually cause weight gain, so I stopped taking them altogether. Now I’m sitting here wondering—is there any actual truth to that idea? Does taking those supplements really make you put on weight?🙂!?

Look at the label: 0g protein, 0g carbs, 0g fat.
Hardly seems like it would make you gain weight, right? 😁

Each pill is about 7 calories.

Honestly, I don't care about the weight gain part, 🙄 I just want to know if these vitamins actually get absorbed or if they're just going to wreck my kidneys.
I heard Gatorade can be bad for you, and this feels similar enough.

Are these actually good sources for vitamins and minerals? Right now I’m taking Vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium—just one of each per day. Is that overkill?
I've noticed that when I overdo it at the gym, magnesium helps me out. No cramps, no aches...

Do you guys take any? Which ones?
