Need help building a new PC build... in Desktops ·
Benjamin King2 said:Look, I’ve been digging through hardware for over 20 years now—honestly, probably more than I care to admit—and I have yet to see someone deal with onboard graphics just giving up the ghost. And even if you did run into that kind of bad luck? Well, if the chipset goes, you're basically looking at a new board anyway. 🙂

Just grab a dedicated GPU. No big deal.🙂

Here’s my take on the case and PSU setup.

I'll leave the rest to the other guys. This should run you about $1100-$400

You're overcharging him, man.😲

Pay upfront, get it in a day or two, or just use COD. It ships in two boxes: one with the built rig ready to go, and the other containing all the component packaging 😁.

The board has decent integrated graphics for HD content 🙂 and can even handle older games. For what you need, this is plenty: triple-core CPU, 4GB RAM in dual channel, a solid XFX power supply (Seasonic architecture, so don't sweat it 😁), standard fried motherboard, 500GB drive, case, and that's it 😁.

If you really want a dedicated GPU, try this instead:
1 x Intel Core i3-2100, socket AM3, BOX , 1.5MB cache
1 x DDR3 4GB (2x2GB) Kingmax, 1333MHz, FLFE
1 x HDD WD 500GB, 5000AAKX, SATA 3, Buffer 16MB, 7.200 rpm , 8,9 ms

Timothy Johnson31 said:Thanks a lot. Any chance someone could drop a link or explain those new AMD processors coming out soon? Looking for info on pricing, performance, etc.
From what I can tell, everyone is talking about them. Might be smarter to just wait another month...?

They should hit the same level as the current Intel Ivy Bridge platform, but there isn't much concrete info out yet.
Honestly, waiting probably isn't worth it. Prices likely won't drop enough to fit into that $1000 😁 budget of yours.

Go with $1000 this setup instead:

1 x MSI 870-C45, AMD 770 + SB710, S. AM3, 6xSATA 3 RAID, DDR3 800/10
1 x AMD Phenom ii x4 955 Black Editon, socket AM3, BOX, C3
2 x DDR3 2048MB ( 2GB ) Kingmax, 1333MHz, CL9, FLFE85F-B8EE9
1 x XFX Core edition 80 450W PSU - EasyRail technology
1 x Sapphire HD 6850, 1GB GDDR5 256bit, Dual Link DVI + HDMI + DP
$1004
Check your current power supply and case; you might be able to reuse some of that stuff. 😁

Bradley Smith88 said:I’m looking to pick up a new GPU since I haven't played anything in forever, and with MW3 and Battlefield 3 coming out, I want to get back into it. 😁 I'm strictly focused on FPS games.
Right now I'm running a Radeon x1950 Pro that's gotten way too loud and keeps overheating and crashing mid-game (couldn't even finish COD Mw2 because of it).

My setup is an Intel Core 2 duo E6750 / 4GB RAM / Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P motherboard / 400W power supply.

Budget is around $110 for a new card. Ideally something cheaper, obviously.$333 🙂

http://www.asrock.com/mb/vga.asp?Model=775XFire-RAID If it isn't listed right here, does that mean my NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 won't work?
Look, I know it's a dumb question, but still...

Shouldn't be an issue. That NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 will run fine on that board.👍

The guys with the HD 5670—sure, it’s only got 512MB instead of a full gig, but that VRAM is faster. It's DDR5 versus DDR3, plain and simple.👍

Casey Long2 said:Yeah. is easily the best bet at that price point...

It’s got the signature, Seasonic architecture, and a 3-year warranty—plus you can bump it to 5 years if you register it. 😁

I’d rather have one powerhouse card than two weak ones. For that budget, I'd just grab this:

Sure, it's a killer card, but look at where they're selling it.👍

Benjamin King2 said:Clock-by-clock, the 560 is about 10% faster than the 460. It’s basically the same architecture, just a different chip... pick whatever fits your budget better. They both handle Overclocking pretty much the same way. For cooling, MSI TwinFrozr and Gigabyte WindForce are top tier compared to the rest... if you want a solid deal in this class, check this out:

Signed! 🙂
A buddy of mine got his rig set up the day before yesterday. I swung by today—you can't hear a thing inside the case. He was playing Black Ops and the card didn't even break a sweat. 👍

Explain that math to me.

Every time I click that link, it just shows a Zotac 560 instead of that $250 price tag.🤷

Interesting. Not sure how you landed on those $67 more. By my math, $21 is cheaper. But hey, even the pros miss sometimes, right?

You posted this link, showing the card at $559. Compared to that same card, I listed this one before your first post

Price: 1,$162

By my count, that's about $67 ☕

Best Buy at this price

How is it a Best Buy? Because it’s $67 more expensive? 🙄

bluefalcon2 said:Wodoo - I love their setup, but I think Robert Rodriguez2 mentioned a few posts back that at Best Buy they only build the PC if you buy the whole configuration together. You didn't mention a CD drive. I just put a build together on the Best Buy site myself, and they didn't even show me the sales tax until I hit the very end of the checkout.

I mentioned Boeing earlier—was I just making stuff up there?😉

bluefalcon2 said:Thanks, didn't realize they wouldn't agree unless you take the whole deal...

Back again with another build 😛 (think I got everything right this time)

Corsair 4GB, 2x2GB, 800 MHz DDR2
MSI P67A-G45 B3, LGA 1155, DDR3, SLI/CFX
Intel i5-2400 (3.1GHz,1MB/6MB,95W,LGA 1155,Cooling Fan)
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6950 GDDR5 1GB/256bit, 800MHz/1250MHz, PCI-E
WD3200AAJS 320GB 8MB 7200 SATA
XFX Core Edition 80 550W PSU - EasyRail technology
Sony Optiarc ODD DVD-RW 24x DVD-RAM, SATA, black, bulk
SilverStone AP121 Active Fan Sink
Frontier Noble Super Server Case

That RAM won't work in that board. You grabbed DDR2 but the board only takes DDR3. Either way, it's worse than what those guys put together, including me.😳

bluefalcon2 said:@Paul Wright7/">@@Paul Wright7 - I don't live in Washington, D.C., so I can't grab that 10% discount. Without it, we're looking at about $500, which actually hits my budget limit perfectly lol. The case looks killer though, at least for my taste.

@Robert Rodriguez2/">@@Robert Rodriguez2 - I mentioned in the title that I don't need a CD drive, but thanks anyway.

They only give you free assembly if the whole build is complete, but you can just skip that part 🙂 no big deal, you still end up with a top-tier setup👍
