I think how long you wait really just depends on the doctor. Some guys can see you right away, but with others, you might be looking at a two-month wait for an appointment. If it’s actually urgent, though—like, really bad—you should just head straight to the ER urology department.

My abdominal CT picked up a tiny, 0.5 cm avascular lesion with some calcifications on my kidney—no post-contrast inhibition noted. Does this actually need more follow-up, or is it just a nothing burger? The scan was ordered because of some microhematuria. Thanks. Best,

They might skip the catheter if you mention you're feeling pain in your lower back on that side. They'll send you to a urologist who can run an ultrasound.

An ultrasound and maybe a CT scan to figure out what's actually causing the hydronephrosis.
