2017 NASCAR Season in Formula 1 ·
gentlebear47 said:Go ahead and dig up those old posts from back when everyone was obsessing over Tom Brady and claiming McLaren-Honda was the absolute powerhouse factory team.

That is a solid point. neonfox65, how can you claim McLaren-Honda is a factory team while acting like Red Bull wasn't during Vettel's era? Absolute nonsense.🍿

I am eagerly awaiting a response; I have become quite the attentive listener.

neonfox65, let me tell you something: Red Bull was essentially just a Renault factory outfit back when Vettel was stacking up those championships.

BECAUSE YOU SIMPLY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND!!!!!!
2017 NASCAR Season in Formula 1 ·
No seriously, neonfox65, what is this talk about 2017? I couldn't care less about 2017 while we're still stuck in 2016, and why start with that long-winded intro about Red Bull being some sort of looming threat?

Red Bull can only pose a threat through Max Verstappen, who is essentially an alien, and that’s the extent of it; the factory teams are hurting because they're using kits that are basically leftovers compared to Red Bull.

Red Bull used to take titles back when they were the official Renault works team; now that Renault has its own independent squad, if that team becomes competitive, Red Bull can kiss those championships goodbye. No matter how much brilliance Newey brings to the table, Renault will simply take it away if they decide to play hardball.

Stop acting like a child and quit trolling us with this nonsense; Red Bull isn't all that.

There is a massive difference between Vettel's Red Bull and this current version of Red Bull.

His columns were easily some of the most impactful things to ever stir up interest in this sport across the US and beyond. When he shut down his old site, it was honestly a bit depressing. The man simply knows Formula 1, period. This move is going to elevate the entire portal to a whole new level.

👍Thanks. Now that I've taken a closer look, it actually says made in USA🙂 lol.

Thanks!
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
Quick question for the group. I just picked up an HP desktop, and it’s sitting there with a Corsair 350w power supply inside. I haven't really heard much about them, but since this was a pretty high-end machine when it was bought, I’m assuming the components are decent enough. I'm thinking about dropping a GTS 450 in there, but I have some reservations about whether the power supply can actually handle it. My other options are either an 8800GT, a GTS, or maybe a 4870.

Current specs are an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+, 4GB of DDR2, and a 160GB SATA drive.

The label on the PSU specifies that the combined 12V rail shouldn't exceed 300W.

Corsair... what's the deal with this one?

Is it even feasible to run Forza Motorsport or iRacing on this specific setup?

Core i5-2500K
4GB DDR2
DDR3 GTX 250

Assuming I stick to a 720p resolution, what kind of performance should I expect?
Jeffrey Allen92 said:I don't care about making things smaller; I just think it's a cool concept. If nothing else, I can toss it in my pocket whenever I head to a LAN party. Honestly, I’ve grown pretty tired of Apple, and I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of Intel either, but this APU is something special. After digging into it following that whole debate, I realized the i3 is way too expensive for such pathetic graphics. Meanwhile, AMD offers an Athlon with four cores at similar speeds for half the price. $67 It offers more processing power and better graphics than anything in NVIDIA's current lineup, including the 400 series.$167Once that next generation drops—the one pushing way more teraflops while hopefully cutting the TDP in half—it’s going to be an absolute beast. Honestly, it'll be such a steal at that point. If I can actually slide something that powerful right into my pocket? That's the dream. For me, nothing else is even going to come close.

So you hate Apple? I feel the same way. Ever since I realized my buddy's Apple setup had specs half as good as my PC, yet was two generations older and still ran absolutely faster than mine, I've felt that way. It’s just faster. Video, photos, music—processing just runs better on Apple.

In terms of design and software, they are Superior to any PC. You could build a custom rig for $2,000 with components twice as powerful, and it would still be slower than Apple for that price. It simply is what it is.

You’re talking about small form factor cases, Zotac mini PCs, and things like that—stuff Apple mastered and put into mainstream use ages ago.

I mean, do you even know how long the mini Macintosh has been around or how small it actually is?

So, you aren't wrong. I also hate Apple for that very reason 🙂. It’s easy to hate something that is Superior

That Celeron will actually handle Grand Theft Auto V just fine. It’s on the s1150 socket, so you can always swap in a better processor later—either by scaling up what you have or picking up something new once you've saved up enough cash. As for the GTX 750 Ti, it's a solid card. It’ll run pretty much anything, provided you aren't expecting to crank everything up to high settings. It's a decent piece of hardware.

Jeffrey Allen92 said:If every dollar counts, and the CPU actually works and fits your motherboard, then why wouldn't you?

Actually, I’m not even sure which processor you’re running right now.

I think I'll go ahead and look up some multi-processor workstations online... there are those Opterons out there that can be clocked incredibly high for just a few bucks...

Albatron p35
e6550.

I have several different setups lying around; I do a little side hustle here and there, that's all.😁

But I'm an honest hustler—I enjoy helping people out by pointing them in the right direction, and occasionally they point me in the right direction too.👍

Jeffrey Allen92 said:Look, I'm not trying to sell you anything, don't worry about that. 😬

I simply typed "q6600" into the search bar on Craigslist because I assumed it would be a decent, cheap option, and the search results spit out that Intel Xeon too... I also spotted a GT 630 for $83... which is a total rip-off 😁

It's just that hardware is ancient. That build these guys put together—a whole rig with quad-core 7600s underneath $667—is actually quite a solid little thing. If we're talking Intel, you could only get a quad-core N3150 and a GT 730 for that kind of money, but even then, the processor is weaker than the AMD solution... even with an Intel Pentium N3700 it would perform worse, though you could probably build the entire PC with passive cooling...

That GT 630 for $83? I actually picked one up on Craigslist about an hour ago for $63 😁

I have an LGA 775 motherboard.

I might just stab that Intel Xeon with a fork:klap: It's a good deal, but still...

Jeffrey Allen92, are you perhaps from Los Angeles? I feel like we might know each other 🙂. Your claims regarding that Intel Xeon seem somewhat questionable to me.

As for a case, you'll probably have to hunt through Best Buy
Power supplies are decent enough too
You're going to end up mixing and matching from different shops
Paying shipping on everything...
So don't think you're actually saving much money here.

You can also pick up a case at Best Buy, since Micro Hard handles the imports, and honestly, throwing in a low-profile GTX 750 Ti wouldn't be a bad move😁. Then you can just show off a little to the neighbors and friends, I suppose. Heh

But man, it looks damn sexy.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Check this out: https://www.newegg.com/fortron-tib010-mini-itx-case/p/N1E4B

*claps*🙏 I like it. Just look at the new Apple lineup; that's the standard. Forget raw performance if you don't have that "wow" factor. I've always said it, and I'll say it again. I’d rather compromise on specs up to a certain point if it means I get a beautiful chassis.

Besides, Apple came up with this aesthetic first, and now everyone else is just playing catch-up.

Thanks, the old config should work fine. I've got it sitting there for $63, and since the fan on my old Radeon 4670 just gave up the ghost, I don't see much point in fixing it. Just doesn't feel worth the effort 🙂, thanks

Guys, I need a quick answer here.

How does the GT 630 2GB DDR3 stack up against an old ATI 4670 512MB DDR3? Would it actually be faster, or not? Thanks. Keep it brief and to the point.
Upgrade or a whole new build? in Desktops ·
Honestly, who cares about that Phoenom? It can hold its own against a GTX 1060 just fine. There’s really no point in building an entirely new rig from scratch if he can't move this current setup; upgrading his existing build with a new CPU doesn't make much sense right now.

By the way, I highly doubt AMD has a real answer for the GTX 1060. I seriously doubt it. Nvidia pulled off something remarkable here—it’s hitting performance levels somewhere near a 780ti, which is nothing to sneeze at.

crimsonstag84 said:That works too, though you won't have a front-facing USB3.0 port. Given how compact the thing is, I don't see it being a dealbreaker.

EDIT: By the way, regarding $607... if you aren't desperate for massive storage, ditch the 1TB HDD and swap in a 240GB SSD instead. It’ll give your workflow a noticeable boost (+$50):

https://www.newegg.com/p/ssd-240gb

It actually does have front USB ports—they aren't 3.0, but there are two of them. We just finished building a rig in this specific case last week. For anyone else looking to buy, just know it accommodates a decent micro-ATX motherboard, so you aren't stuck with ITX. It also fits a standard ATX power supply. We ran an A8 7600 combo in it and everything was perfectly fine.

One more thing. It isn't exactly "small." It's quite 🙂. Saving space might be a questionable benefit here since the shape is so boxy; it won't fit into those standard PC slots on most desks. It sits better next to a monitor. Honestly, you shouldn't hide it away because it looks great—it gives off the impression of a much higher-end chassis than it actually is.

but I honestly don't see any speed difference here. Installation times are identical, game loading is exactly the same, and macOS takes just a hair less than a minute to boot up. Is there some hidden trick I missed, or did I just throw my $167 money

down the drain?

Your current setup is more than adequate. It still has plenty of life left in it, in my opinion; there isn't really a need to upgrade right now.

That CPU can still be overclocked quite nicely and remains sufficiently fast. If you truly want to spend money and actually see a massive performance boost, pick up an RTX 3060. It'll run you about $250, but it's worth every single cent. For what you put in, the performance gain is remarkable.

Linda Morgan74 said:An overclocked Q6600 is barely even faster than my G1840... and you can pick one of those up for $90 bucks. Honestly, you might want to think twice before jumping into a Q6600OC upgrade... especially since the condition of that motherboard is super sketchy. Age really does play tricks on hardware.

I was stuck in the exact same spot once. I was running an E7200, but I ended up selling everything off to switch over to a G1840, and man, I have zero regrets about it.

First off, the G1840 is a solid chip, but an overclocked Q6600 offers a slight edge, not to mention the Q9 series with that massive cache.

Personally, I’d rather someone $333 rebuild a PC from scratch than buy everything all over again. A friend of mine uses a Q8300 paired with the same GTX 660 I have, and there is absolutely zero difference in performance. I'm currently on an i3 from the 1150 generation.
