99% of LEDs will run at 0.65 V

THX!👍

So, did you actually end up doing anything about that issue?

Quick question for Mark Gonzalez2: how did you pull off those SYC letters? I’m thinking about doing something similar on the side panel using some white adhesive decals.

Regarding the LEDs, I actually rigged mine using that super bright diode from the power button. I pointed it toward the wall (check out this shot http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...88/kuci010.jpg), and you can see that blue glow behind the case—that's the HDD activity indicator; it stays steady when idle and flashes when it's under load. Now I'm considering grabbing a purple diode and swapping it in for the PWR LED instead.

The wiring is incredibly straightforward. Just find the two wires (2) running from the motherboard to whichever LED you want to swap, snip them with some pliers, and solder them (though honestly, just crimping them together works fine), then aim it wherever you want.

One more thing—where did you pick up those thin little tubes you used to route the cables from the chassis to the motherboard? Those blue sleeves

Take a look at this...

HAHA 👍

I’ve gone ahead and made some fresh modifications to the case.
I picked up some heat shrink tubing—you guys know what that is, right?—and used it to sleeve the main motherboard power cable. I also grabbed some thinner tubing to wrap up every single wire inside the chassis, from the PSU down to the HDD, just to clean things up. To top it off, I stripped that old "ZEX" sticker off the metal and had it engraved directly onto the glass instead (about 20x8cm). I didn't snap any photos yet since my camera isn't with me at the moment.

I couldn't just sit here by the sidelines without chiming in to show off my own progress. This is my second attempt at PC Modding, and let me tell you, it isn't quite finished yet. I still need to install some plexiglass—actually, I've decided to go with 3mm tempered glass; trust me, the advantages are worth it. I'm also hunting for specific blue LEDs to plug into the DVD and CD-ROM connectors, plus a blue neon tube... but I can't find them anywhere. It's frustrating. Living in a small town, it feels like I'm the only person around here who actually cares about this stuff.

Here are a few shots... let's see what you guys think.

For now, I've just scavenged an LED from a car lighter (you know, the ones that glow from the bottom).

The whole point here is to modify a standard case so it doesn't just look default.
I have nothing but respect for someone who builds their own chassis from scratch, and hey, if you’ve got the cash to drop on a pre-built custom rig, more power to you. But let’s stay focused: this thread is about the modification of what you already own!!!

This is one of those rigs I keep on hand just to experiment with all sorts of ridiculous ideas....
It's a Pentium II running at 633 MHz, though I actually pushed it up to 789 MHz!! It's got 256 MB of RAM and even features a built-in modem.......
A total powerhouse.. and don't even get me started on the case....TAKE A LOOK!!...😁😁😁😁😁😁

You have the nerve to tell me my case is nothing? What makes yours any special?
All you did was take some parts, pull them out of their original housings, and wire them together; honestly, that's actually pretty impressive.😬

Bryan Sanchez86 said:"The term 'mod' is just short for modification. Whether you're making a minor tweak or a massive overhaul, it's all a modification. People do it based on what they want, what they need, or just a cool idea. Let's not be so hard on the guy."

Finally, someone who actually respects the effort put into someone else's work.

Thanks for the support 🙏

You’re nothing more than a pack of critics who love to tear others down because you don't have a single original thought in your heads.

People just cut out a side panel,
slap some acrylic on there with some glowing mesh,
throw in a few random neon strips, and suddenly they claim they've "modded" something.

To me, true PC Modding means altering a case until it’s unrecognizable or building one from scratch entirely.

Well then, why don't you show us the rig you "modded" so I can actually give you some real criticism?

The point of this thread is for you to post a photo of YOUR OWN CASE.

And leave mine out of your critiques; I'm perfectly happy with what I built.

Joseph Carter9, like Jed already told you, try doing something with the cables. A plexiglass side panel and two LED lights isn't exactly groundbreaking. Since you went through the trouble of adding a transparent panel, you might as well make the internals look like they actually belong in a high-end rig.

Yeah, sure, you're all talk. It’s easy enough to just drop a link to some case some random guy customized. I’m more interested in seeing what *yours* looks like. I bet you've got it hidden under your desk where nobody can see it.

Hey,
Look, I’ve always had a massive appreciation for a clean build—properly painted chassis, killer lighting, all that good stuff.
I was thinking we should start a dedicated thread here for exactly that.
If you've got a custom rig (and I mean *your* rig—don't just go grabbing photos from the internet => show us what you actually built), post a picture so we can talk shop.

Mine started out as a basic white case, but I spray-painted the exterior matte black and went with a blue theme for the interior. I picked up some plexiglass at the local hardware store and gave that a custom coat too. I had to drill the fan holes myself and smooth them out with a jigsaw. For lighting, I used those Sharkoon 2 10cm UV strips, and I grabbed my cables from Newegg. You can't see it clearly in the shot, but I actually swapped out the standard HDD activity LED for a bright blue one I salvaged from an old lighter; now, when I'm gaming, the whole room flashes blue (you can see the light hitting the wall). There's also an 80mm fan in the front that I picked up from some random shop downtown...

Here’s a shot of my setup. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...88/kuci010.jpg
