Power supply (dead?!) in Desktops ·
Stick your multimeter into the power supply—you’ll feel it immediately if you aren't careful about not frying the motherboard!!!
Hey there—I’ve been hitting a bit of a wall here. I just can't seem to track down the BIOS for my GeForce GT Series graphics card (the one with the 1GB GDDR5 memory)! If anyone happens to know where I can dig this up, I would truly appreciate the help. Thanks so much!

It seems like everyone is carrying around a laptop these days—I mean, it’s practically the norm now. I ended up shelling out quite a bit for this one $117! 😢 And honestly? It was a total bust

and I don't even have a place to go try it out!

So, I’m currently running a Cheftech 400W power supply, but I’ve run into a bit of a snag—it doesn't actually have the necessary connector for this card. Here are the specs if you want to take a look: http://www.force3d.com/products/hd5670.html

Hey everyone, I was wondering if I could get a little bit of advice here. So, I picked up a Force 3D Radeon 5670 1GB GDDR5 via an online classified ad—nothing too fancy, just a quick deal. From what I’ve read online, this card really needs at least a 450W power supply to run reliably, but my current setup is only sitting at 400W. I went ahead and installed it anyway, and when I hit the power button, the PC gave that familiar series of beeps, which usually tells me everything is being recognized by the system. However, there’s absolutely no signal reaching the monitor. I’ve tried the usual troubleshooting steps—resetting the CMOS by pulling the battery and reseating the RAM—and the computer seems to boot up normally, but I don't get any video until I plug the monitor directly into the motherboard's integrated graphics. The system isn't even detecting the new card. Now I'm starting to wonder: is this a power delivery issue? Did I just make a bad call by trying to squeeze this onto a 400W unit? When I swap back to my old graphics card, the picture pops up immediately without any fuss. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! 😢

Thanks so much for all the help and the replies!

I’m definitely going with the 260x and the 500GB HDD! I'll try running everything on this current power supply first—if it struggles to keep up, I'll just pick up a new one later. But if it handles the load without any issues, then honestly, that's a win.

Well, I’ve reached a bit of a crossroads here—I know for certain that I need to pick up a new graphics card and a hard drive, but the decisions are starting to pile up. As for the HDD, I don't really have any need for a massive 1TB drive; something in the 160GB or 320GB range would be plenty for what I'm doing. My main concern, though, is whether this power supply can actually handle pulling enough juice for that AMD Radeon R7 260x!

Thanks so much for all the advice—really appreciate it! Cheers.

I’m planning to pick up a new graphics card, a power supply, and an HDD next—the rest of my build can definitely wait a bit while I save up. As for this processor, I’ve actually been doing some reading online, and honestly, most people seem really happy with it; they’re saying it still holds its own for plenty of gaming! So, I’m a little confused why everyone seems to be talking down to it so much lately.

Alright, so if I'm looking at the power supply, the graphics card, and the hard drive—plus maybe throwing in another 4 GB of RAM while I'm at it?

So, what are your thoughts on this card:

My current setup is running on a 400W Chieftec power supply, and I've been looking to swap out my old hard drive for something with a bit more capacity. I actually picked up a new cooler from an LG outlet recently, and after giving my processor a little overclock to 3.16 GHz, the temperatures are staying ice cold—so yeah, it’s officially overclocked now.

I’ve actually got one right now—I put it together as best I could back when money was pretty tight, so...
It runs surprisingly well on Windows 7.
I usually stick to a 1024x 768 resolution while playing, anyway. I mostly just wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any quick advice or tips... If I can just keep this thing running smoothly, I might actually get some decent gaming time in for once!

Thanks for the heads-up, but I think there might be a little misunderstanding here—I actually play pretty much everything!
