Fall (2022) in Movies ·
Yeah, using a drone would be a pretty obvious fix here. I’d assume it could handle carrying about 150 grams without breaking a sweat—which is roughly what those newer smartphones weigh these days. I can't quite recall if they were mounting a phone directly onto the drone during their shots or if the drone just had its own built-in camera... If they were actually using phones, then we'd definitely need to revisit those ideas. But honestly, even if they just strapped a phone to a t-shirt, a backpack, or some kind of small pouch to act as a makeshift buffer, it would have slowed the fall down enough to make a difference.

I checked this out, though I wasn't really expecting much, and honestly, it was a pretty tense, solid watch. One thing that bugged me, though—why didn't they think to make a little makeshift parachute for the phone? Given how high up they were, there should have been enough signal within at least 50 feet of the ground. They could have improvised some kind of tiny chute to slow the descent just enough to send a text before it smashed into the dirt. But hey, if they were actually that smart, the movie wouldn't be nearly as interesting, I guess. 😁 On the other hand, you've got these two people attempting to climb such a rickety structure without even checking the gear first—you know, inspecting the anchors and all that before deciding to go for it. Then, once they're already mid-climb, a rusty rung on the ladder snaps, yet they just keep going. In real life, people like that wouldn't stand a chance; they'd never survive something like this. You have to overlook a lot of things for the plot to work, but if you actually paid attention, it wouldn't be nearly as good, haha.

The IMDb rating is sitting at a mediocre 5.6, and the top reviews there aren't exactly glowing either. Honestly, having watched it, I’m a bit baffled by the backlash. The narrative itself is solid and actually quite compelling, the cinematography is beautiful, and even though some of the cast members aren't household names, their performances were spot on. Some people might find the "zombie" element a bit distracting, but they really aren't the core focus of the story. Personally, I’d give this a solid 7 or 7.5 out of 10—it's definitely one of those films I'll revisit.

Change my mind. 😁
Andrew Fox74 said:It’s tough trying to map out component purchases months in advance when you have zero clue what the pricing trends will look like or which specific items will actually go on sale. On the flip side, if you don't walk into Black Friday with a concrete game plan, anything remotely worth mentioning gets snatched up by the crowds within minutes. Last year, I was eyeing a Roomba deal at Chipotle's Black Friday sale for $600 or $233, but I couldn't even get the website to load for the first few hours (at least not for me, though clearly 😁 had better luck). By the time I finally broke through the digital crowd, everything was already sold out 🙄. I eventually ended up grabbing a robot vacuum from Best Buy during a decent promotion, though I paid about four times more than I originally intended 🤦
.

I'll probably just hammer out a definitive build by then and hope for the best regarding whatever deals might pop up. We'll see how it goes..
Never had any luck 😁
So, looks like this case is out of the question 😁

I was under the impression that prices were going to drop significantly for Black Friday. I’d seen posts on the forums where people were snagging components at basically half off, so I figured a solid discount across the board was the norm. Apparently, those deals are only hitting specific items...
Yeah, I’m planning on grabbing a GPU too, but definitely not at these current prices. Once things settle down to a "realistic" level, I'll add one to the build. As for which specific card? Who knows. There'll be some kind of best buy out there eventually. I actually wasn't even aware of this 5600g. I assume it's a newer model... I'll probably need to dig up some benchmarks to see if upgrading to a pricier processor is even worth the jump.
I wouldn't say I'm a particularly demanding user. I just need a new rig because my current laptop is about 8 or 9 years old; it still runs surprisingly well, it's just falling apart. The hinges are shot, the speakers are gone, and given its age, I'm half-expecting it to kick the bucket any second. I would like to be able to play some modern games, though realistically I don't think I'll be gaming that much, so I'm mostly looking to put together a solid "best buy" type of setup without obsessing over every single dollar. I could probably drop maybe $1,500 total, maybe adding another $200 later for a graphics card once prices return to normal. This case is a bit of an outlier, though—normally I'd just pick up something for a couple hundred bucks, but since I move around quite often, I need something compact and high-quality. This one feels like it's built entirely out of steel and looks genuinely premium, so I figured I'd just buy it once and be done with it for good. 😁
I'm thinking about putting together a new PC without a dedicated graphics card, specifically aiming to pull the trigger during Black Friday. My main uncertainty is what kind of discounts I should actually be looking for. Here’s the rough build I have in mind:

ASRock B550M Pro4 motherboard, Socket 1200/Socket AM4, 4x DDR4, up to 128 GB, mATX - $177

AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G 3.7Ghz Socket AM4 processor - $500

G.SKILL Ripjaws V F4-3600C18D-16GVK, 16GB DDR4 3600MHz, CL18, (2x8GB) - $213

Crucial P1 CT500P1SSD8 SSD 500GB, M.2, NVMe - $133

Fortron 650 W power supply, 120mm fan, active PFC - $117

Cooler Master MasterBox NR200P case - $217

Total $1357

What do you all think—roughly how much of a price drop could I expect on these parts for Black Friday?
