If we were talking soccer, I’d probably agree with the Pope that Cristiano Ronaldo is the king, because those hour-long YouTube compilations of his highlights—even without showing the actual goals—are almost impossible to beat. But in tennis—and I’ll admit, I’m just a casual fan—nothing beats watching someone claw their way out of an impossible situation. You know what I mean? After that US Open semifinal, during what was probably the most gracious press conference ever, he actually credited luck for the fact that Djokovic saved two match points on his serve and turned the whole thing around.

But then, if you watch the replay, you can see it clearly in his body language. You see the sheer frustration after that one passing shot Djokovic hit. You can tell that in that exact moment, he felt the match slipping away. If that isn't the definition of true mental greatness, then I don't know what is!

They thought that when they eventually hit the streets because of evictions, unpaid wages, absurd cuts to workers' rights, or rights for disabled children—or even during the pandemic—that things would be different for them. Yeah, right! As if!

The state apparatus started playing these games far too long ago, tracking people both physically and electronically without even changing telecommunications laws, just so they could jump right back into it in 2020.
The fact that the crowd is still cheering for all of this today doesn't change the reality, nor can it change it, even if they wanted to. It only shows that we are collectively regressing and sinking deeper and deeper.

That's the current situation in Italy; they lack enough ventilators and hospital beds, so they're literally choosing the younger patients and letting the older ones pass away.

Of course, this all started because doctors brought the virus into the oncology ward... and now it's just panic and chaos. They should have the quarantine results by Monday, maybe a day earlier or later, but it's crucial to reduce the patient load so they have enough ventilators for everyone.

I think our officials mentioned today that we have 800 ventilators in the US, but right now there are only three patients on them. Once you're on a ventilator, you're in critical condition. You can't breathe on your own.

Besides, even though I get the impression the virus itself might not be more dangerous than the flu, it is definitely much easier to spread on a massive scale. And then there are the complications—they might not always be fatal, but they certainly require a serious response, the right equipment, and total readiness. I mean, what is the actual mortality rate of a virus if you have 500 ventilators available for 10,000 critical patients?
The real question is how prepared we actually are—especially in terms of physical capacity—to suppress this thing. Because if you aren't ready, that vacuum-sealed fact about a "1% mortality rate" doesn't mean a single thing.
