There is absolutely no way he’s getting off easy. Because everyone is terrified of causing unrest across the entire Middle East, he'll probably just get slapped with some light sentence—maybe a fine or something similar. It has to be heavy enough to show that nobody messes with the President of the USA. It's pure politics, really. Just finding that middle ground to keep the peace.
As for the act itself, I think it was just plain stupid and embarrassing. Look, I don't support American imperialist wars any more than the next guy, but this move was just dumb and totally indefensible.
