I was wondering what your thoughts might be regarding research from Dr. Sears (Zone Diet), specifically the idea that consuming a high amount of glucose right after a workout—especially if it's out of proportion with your proteins and fats—might actually be counterproductive, since those high insulin levels could potentially inhibit the release of growth hormone which is so vital for muscle tissue repair following exercise. Just a brief thought. Thanks 🙂

It might be best to take it after a workout alongside some glucose, and I suppose you could also have it in the morning if you really wanted to.

Maria Sanchez39 said:Also, are there certain proteins that are better suited for women, or is it all pretty much the same?

It’s all essentially the same. It isn't as if there is such a thing as yogurt specifically for women or spreads made just for women. 😁

Matthew Richardson81 said:It’s decent whey, made right here in the States, and the price is pretty reasonable. It's about 70-75% concentrate, I believe. As for the expiration date, it should be printed on the label on the bag if that's what you bought.

For the Starbucks, you can just order over the phone or via email. If you search for Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey on Google, you'll find their site. It's probably the most affordable whey you can find in America, unless you count buying stuff from Mexico.

I used it for about a year, though my budget is a bit tight right now to keep up. For the most part, I've had nothing but good things to say about them.

I'm actually familiar with that whey; I didn't ask because I didn't know it, but thanks anyway.
And yeah, I know where to pick up the 4.5kg tub of Dymatize for $200, I'm just not entirely sure how reliable they are since they're basically just some guy 😁 importing stuff.

I guess I was wondering if anyone else here has dealt with supplement resellers like that, and if you found them to be trustworthy? 😕

Scott Brooks61 said:Is anyone here using Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey? I find the packaging a bit unsettling, since there isn't a clear ingredient list—it just lists the amino acid profile—and I can't seem to find an expiration date, unless maybe they just forgot to put the sticker on it??!

I wonder where you picked that up?

Getting started? Here is my training split from San Diego. 🤷

MON - chest, triceps, and forearms
TUE - back and biceps
WED - cardio (cycling or running)
THU - legs
FRI - shoulders and abs
SAT - cardio
SUN - rest day

I suppose this might serve as a decent example of a program.

Nicholas Chavez70 said:I guess maybe you didn't quite get them closed properly? 🤷

I am, I suppose, being mindful of that.

Nicholas Chavez70 said:I suppose you might have spilled a little bit of something somewhere... 😁

Not at all. I tend to be quite observant, and I think I would have noticed if that had happened. 🤔

I guess the scent is just so incredibly strong that it seems to be seeping right through the packaging itself. 🤷

Nicholas Chavez70 said:I suppose you'll notice it once you open and close the tub, because for a little while, the whole room might end up smelling somewhat sweet and vanilla-like... 😍 Dymatize FTW... 👍

I tend to keep mine on top of my dresser. I think they still give off a scent even when the lid is closed. 😕 My dresser sort of carries this double rich chocolate aroma now, though fortunately, none of my clothes actually end up smelling like it. 🙏

ironsurfer10 said:How long can protein powder stay open? I have some left over from January since I stopped working out, so they're just sitting there... I guess I wonder if they're still good to use, or if I should probably just buy some new ones?
And also, does it even make sense to drink them if I'm not exercising? I'm a vegetarian, so my protein intake is pretty low, which is why I'm asking...

Since you're a vegetarian, I suppose it might be a good idea to keep up with the protein. If it's whey, maybe try having it in the morning with breakfast, but if it's a different type, then whenever works. As for the powder itself, protein is a pretty hardy substance; I don't think it spoils or loses its effectiveness all that quickly. In fact, the shelf life for protein supplements is usually quite a bit longer than what's printed on the package.

I don't, really. I usually just order everything online and wait for the mail carrier to bring it right to my door. ☕

🤣

Olivia Robinson7 said:Could someone please tell me? I was planning on getting some protein, but I noticed the expiration date is at the end of this month.
Is there any chance of side effects, or is it okay to keep using protein even if it's past its expiration date?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I imagine you probably wouldn't experience any issues.

nimbleskipper89 said:..if anyone happens to be interested, I stopped by the local Gold's Gym for a workout last night and they have a sale on a 500g Protein shake for $30, Creatine for 129 or maybe $46 for half a kilo, and some Cell-tec for 113 or roughly $40. I don't recall the exact dollar amounts perfectly, but I suppose I didn't miss out on too much.

I guess you're advertising here again, aren't you? 😁 😛

Anyway, I was wondering which specific brand of creatine that is? Because there are so many different types of creatine out there...

Anonymous said:I suppose nobody is actually being foolish; it just seems like everyone has their own unique approach to things... some people might only rely on Pre-Workout, while others prefer to split it into Pre-Workout and During-Workout, or perhaps they use During-Workout specifically. There are also those who opt for whey before training and then casein during, or maybe they mix them together, and so on... I guess it all really comes down to you and whatever feels most effective for your own body. It wouldn't be right for me to claim that I use During-Workout and then insist to everyone else that it's the absolute best way, especially since I know there are people who might feel lightheaded if they try using During-Workout 🙂 so you should probably just try it yourself and see what works best for you.

Oh, I know, I was just joking. 🙂 I suppose I use that kind of language simply to try and create a bit of a humorous effect, rather than intending to offend anyone. Just because I happen to use Pre-Workout or proteins doesn't mean I have anything against people who hold different beliefs or perspectives regarding how they consume them.

It really seems to depend on which brand you happen to choose. I guess I've seen quite a bit about it online. 😛

Henry Evans3 said:Oh, I don't know about that...

I suppose someone once mentioned to me that certain companies, maybe ones that produce milk like Coca-Cola, might just be mixing pure protein into their milk products...

Exactly... Or rather, they might just take that protein, mix it with water, add some coloring, sweeteners, and emulsifiers, and then sell it off as if it were actual milk. 😁

Henry Evans3 said:Generally speaking, there is significantly more protein in those than what we usually end up buying....🙂

I should probably mention again that whey isolate is roughly 90% protein, whereas Inkospor produces a powder that reaches about 95%.

Henry Evans3 said:Has anyone ever actually tried to track down those specific proteins that manufacturers supposedly mix into milk? I heard they import them from some single supplier overseas... apparently, it’s basically just 90% pure protein.🍿

I guess that’s what some American bodybuilders are supposedly drinking...🙂

I don't think I've ever heard of anything quite like that... though, I suppose a whey isolate is also about 90% protein.🤷

As for "those American bodybuilders," I wonder if maybe someone is just trying to sell you something suspicious.😁

briskjackal5 said:I'm not quite following this paragraph; I suppose I don't really grasp what you're aiming for here.

No, I haven't read it. I guess I don't tend to read most of the articles that get linked.

-User23

Well, I shared an article outlining certain arguments regarding the dangers of consuming aspartame, and then you sort of came out of nowhere, quoting my own link to claim that aspartame is "irrelevant anyway" and "safe in normal amounts." 😕
So, you don't read the majority of the articles linked about the subject you're discussing? 😕 That seems like a bit of a strange stance to take... 🤷

nimbleskipper89 said:I don't really feel that way either, though I suppose since we tend to be so quick to criticize everything homegrown—calling it low quality or overpriced and so on—if we aren't willing to support our own, we can't really expect miracles. It isn't about politics, necessarily, but more about mindset. At the end of the day, everyone decides where to spend their money, but if you're always busy fixing up someone else's yard, your own is probably going to stay a mess forever. Don't tell me I'm being philosophical; I just tend to look at things from a slightly broader perspective than just my own wallet.

If I spend all my time tending to the neighbor's yard, eventually I might just end up moving in next door. ☕ You know what I mean? It's not like I'm trying to lecture you with some intense patriotism. 🤷

briskjackal5 said:Besides that, I agree it isn't dangerous when taken in normal amounts.

I guess you didn't finish reading the article I linked, did you? Or maybe you're just looking for comfort? 🙂 The reality is that people everywhere are essentially poisoning themselves through food and drink for all sorts of questionable reasons.

briskjackal5 said:I ask because the whole process of ranking proteins seems to me to be just as common as hearing stuff like, "I heard people say Multipower is garbage because they pack it in Canada," or, "Twinlab is a rip-off because it's too expensive." Most opinions seem to be formed that way.
And then, almost by accident and depending on what's being whispered through the grapevine, attitudes toward specific brands start to solidify.
I suspect that's how it works for about 99% of users.

Yeah, that's unfortunately how my opinion of Scitec formed as well. There were rumors that the importer was doing something shady with the containers—like the lids weren't sealed properly, so they'd take some out and replace it with something else. 😕 But again, those are just rumors. I bought it. Tried it. And it seems fine to me. 🤷 It actually tastes better than Dymatize. Personally, I think the whole idea of ranking products is a bit pointless. Everyone has different preferences. You could determine which product has the highest or best quality protein, but even then, it feels a bit redundant since most major brands use basically the same manufacturing methods.

I suppose one could determine which product contains the fewest undesirable ingredients, specifically heavy metals. Based on what I've gathered so far, I might suggest Gold Standard by Optimum Nutrition. Their Whey Gold and Hydro Whey have shown some of the lowest metal concentrations during testing. It seems even certain types of vegetables might contain more metals than their products. So 🙏. I know I read this somewhere recently, though I can't seem to locate the link right now.

Also, I was wondering why you sign off at the end of every single post? 😕

nimbleskipper89 said:..I mentioned that it's a brand I am quite happy with (Inkospor), and it's actually a few percent cheaper here than in the USA, so it's hard to say it isn't competitive. As for why American products are so expensive for us while they are cheap in Canada, I won't comment because I don't really know where those massive price gaps come from. Perhaps the quality isn't quite as high as it's presented to be here.

It is actually the exact same products and the exact same packaging.

Josey Wales, I really appreciate you getting back to me. 🙂

Little Fear I suppose it could be argued that...
But I suppose that isn't actually whey protein isolate.

I've gone back and looked into this more closely now. I suppose you were right, and I must admit my mistake. It turns out it's actually a blend of whey, milk, and egg proteins.

nimbleskipper89 said:If an importer is handling it, then I suppose it's officially permitted, since they have to cover the cost of the permit themselves—which might be one reason why everything seems so overpriced lately. Then you also have to factor in our 23% sales tax. Honestly, this setup seems to work out quite well for the Canadians, given that they don't have to deal with any of our specific import permits. It feels like we are being overly accommodating neighbors; they want access to our coastline for next to nothing, while we continue to go out of our way to drive business their way.

It seems like there is always a certain bitterness lingering in your tone, I suppose. 🙄 It seems you've started bringing political topics into the conversation as well, I suppose. 🙄 I don't really bother categorizing people by their background, whether they're Canadian or American, or even by race or moral character. I suppose I just tend to divide everyone into two groups: those who are willing to sell me supplements at a fair price, and everyone else. ☕

Kevin Nelson said:I suppose I might be interested in getting some protein as well. 😁

I am thinking about picking some up tomorrow or perhaps the day after, so I was wondering what your thoughts might be on that. I suppose I might suggest looking into the Whey protein Isolate from NOW Foods, if you're searching for something reliable. It seems like a decent option for most people, I guess. Since I was given a recommendation, I suppose I've been looking for some protein powder that doesn't contain any additives at all. 🤷 I suppose I don't know much about this subject, so...

I suppose I am planning to take them only after my workouts, especially since I weigh about 220 pounds and have a somewhat slight build. Also, I was wondering if it might be possible to use something like a banana or perhaps some coffee instead of dextrose? 😁

I suppose you should just go ahead and buy it. You aren't going to die from it, I imagine. Maybe.

I just took a closer look at the nutritional label. It turns out that for every 28g serving, you're actually getting 25g of protein. I guess that’s pretty impressive.
