Paul Kim8 said:Could someone suggest some more affordable whey protein powders sold in bulk? I can't really justify the cost of brands like Optimum Nutrition or similar premium labels right now, so I'm looking for something from a less mainstream manufacturer that might still offer decent quality...

A little bit of courtesy goes a long way. 😛

I suppose whey protein also causes an insulin spike. According to some studies, oats can actually trigger quite a bit of insulin too—it seems the insulin index doesn't always align perfectly with the glycemic index, so maybe the body just releases more insulin in response to oats to clear out blood glucose, which would explain why their GI stays low.
In principle, it might not really matter which type of carbohydrate you choose after a workout; whether it's fruit, sucrose, or glucose, it could all work similarly.
If you're interested in diving deeper into the details, you might want to check these out:

Thanks. 👍 I will probably share my thoughts once I've had a chance to read through everything.

darkfox85 said:Right now, I only have dumbbells at home, though I suppose I will try to find some other equipment soon... also, I am not quite sure what this "dextrose/glucose measurement" thing means? People keep suggesting whey plus an apple after a workout... I guess that is what you mean?

Look, getting protein (like whey) in after a workout is pretty essential. The reason people suggest pairing whey with carbohydrates—specifically glucose—is because they spike your insulin levels. Insulin is really crucial for transporting and utilizing amino acids (things like whey, creatine, L-glutamine, and BCAAs, which are all amino acids) into your muscles. This helps trigger repair and growth while preventing muscle breakdown. Glucose is emphasized as the most useful carb because it triggers the highest insulin response.

An apple is basically 83% water, and only about 14% of it consists of carbs. Of that 14%, only a third is actually glucose; the rest is fructose, which barely moves the needle on your insulin levels at all.

I am mentioning all of this 😁 just because I want to explain that you really should be using glucose (and in a supplement, it probably needs to be in a higher dosage than the protein itself). Otherwise, if you don't have enough insulin in your system after training, those expensive proteins might just end up being stored as fat instead. 😛

This comes from www.building-body.com. I apologize if someone else has already shared this.

LAB-STYLE COOKIES

image

Ingredients (makes four cookies):
* One cup old-fashioned rolled oats
* Four large tablespoons of peanut butter enriched with omega-3 fatty acids
* 2 tablespoons of 100% whey protein
* A quarter cup of water or skim milk, perhaps, to make mixing a bit easier

Nutritional info per cookie:
* Cal: 220
* Protein: 14 grams
* Carbs: 18 grams (including 3 grams of fiber)
* Fat: 11 grams

A slightly different version of the same thing:

"GOURMET" COOKIES

image

Ingredients

* One and a half cups old-fashioned rolled oats
* Three-quarters cup of natural peanut or almond butter
* 2 scoops of whey protein
* One cup of organic, unsweetened coconut flakes
* Enough water to help with the mixing process, I suppose

Instructions:

Pour the oats into a bowl. Add the protein powder and then sprinkle the coconut flakes on top. Mix in the peanut butter along with a little warm water, using your hands to work everything together. Shape them into cookies—or maybe just small balls—and then you can roll them in extra coconut flakes on a plate if you feel like it.

Jonathan James7 said:Regarding the stuff about Aspartame and Sucralose, I suppose it is widely understood that those can be harmful..
I feel like Whey might be somewhat ineffective if one isn't already consuming high-quality proteins like cheese, eggs, turkey, or chicken.

As for those dealing with digestive issues, I suspect it might be due to overconsuming Whey combined with Aspartame.
In my opinion, the only animal-based option worth considering would be the MVP iso logic neutral.
I am currently thinking about ordering some hemp protein from http://www.marijuanamuscle.com/ just to see if I notice any improvement in progress since it is a plant-based source. It does have about 50% less protein than animal sources and tends to be quite pricey.
Plus, with US customs and import taxes, the price will probably jump by another 30%. It is hard to find good options here; most places just sell those low-quality proteins that everyone seems to follow blindly..

Oh, Dildo, you really are a bit lost. 🙄 Of course Whey isn't meant to replace a balanced diet; it’s just a supplement to it. Almost every manufacturer states this on their labels, mostly because they are legally required to do so. I think it might help to look more into how Whey actually functions.

Though, I guess you might be onto something regarding hemp protein. Here is a link if you're interested in reading more: http://www.building-body.com/forum/v...php?f=2&t=1379

I suppose I ended up getting that same tub as well.
Though, I guess it might be causing some bloating for me.😢
But maybe it doesn't really matter, honestly.
It probably won't do any lasting harm.

Unsolicited advice: Let's vent in Psychology & Therapy ·
@rapidhound90 I suppose people like that aren't actually interested in helping you out. It seems more likely that they just want to signal to everyone else that they hold the "correct" opinions on everything, whether it's parenting or even just the price of milk at the grocery store. I guess you aren't really the priority to her; she probably just wants to present herself in the best possible light to the group, even if it isn't entirely true. It might not even be personal, really. If you hadn't been there, she probably would have just found someone else to pick on.

Oh, right. It just occurred to me now.

Does anyone have any insights or personal experiences regarding Scitec 100% Whey Isolate? Or perhaps any other products from Scitec in general?

I was actually reading on an online forum recently—I think it was a fitness community, though I can't quite recall which one—that buying this specific product locally here in the States might not be the best idea, and that ordering it online is probably safer. The reasoning given was that the genuine product should have a really fine texture and dissolve effortlessly in water or milk. However, that doesn't seem to be the case with the tub I bought locally. This one has a sort of floury consistency and is quite difficult to mix into liquid; it leaves behind clumps and really requires a shaker bottle. I actually have the container right here next to me as I type this, so I know exactly what I'm talking about.

People on the forum were claiming that the distributor supplying this product to the local market might be opening the containers, removing some of the contents, and mixing it with something else entirely. One user mentioned they had compared a tub ordered online directly with one purchased locally, and they claimed the difference was night and day. To address the skeptics, this person even offered to send private messages and said they could bring both tubs in person so people could see the discrepancy for themselves, so I somewhat doubt it was just someone trolling.

So, I guess I'm feeling a little pissed off😠 because of all this. But I suppose I'll just keep drinking it. Damn, it wasn't cheap.😳

rustyowl4 said:it isn't just a waste of money because of how it affects your health, but it's also incredibly hard on your digestion... protein absorption drops by 50%...which I suppose means you'd need to consume twice as much just to get the same amount of protein..

Is that actually true? I guess if I had known that sooner, things might have been different...

So, I was wondering if it might be possible for me to change my username, or is that not really an option?

P. S. I realize I probably am being a bit of a nuisance.

It should be fine. You can just reach out to the admin.

I wasn't aware of that. So, would that be brown, I suppose?

Would it be possible to change my handle to Christian Harris2? I assume the name Nick doesn't lose its identity or recognition, right?

Also, I was wondering if the username could perhaps be in brown? If that isn't an option, then maybe black would work instead.

I hope I'm not asking for too much here. Thank you.

🙂

I suppose I should check with the admin to see if this is even allowed. As for the colors, I think Jacob Foster11 already covered everything for you. 😉

Irritability seems to be the most contagious emotion we have.

On the other hand, if you're looking to spread panic, you don't even need to think. Just start spiraling, and everyone else around you will be just as frazzled in no time. 🙏

@Samuel Grant54; I suppose you might want to consider picking up some self-help books. I know a lot of people think they’re a bit cliché, but I guess they’ve actually helped me quite a bit when I was dealing with similar issues.
