If it's the latter, you’d have to be an absolute idiot to close your eyes like a child and believe that the threat from Russia is just going to vanish once they take over Ukraine. Absolutely. I don't get why she threw it all away. It’s not like any court in America would charge a kid with murder. Sure, maybe she would have lost custody, but this? This is her entire life gone, plus prison time on top of it. Seems like a bad trade to me, especially since the kid is already in a coma and drugged up. Not worth it.
Let's be real, what jury would actually believe her? If anything, she just pissed them off more. At least this way she got out early for good behavior. Besides, she carries a huge chunk of the blame for the killing because she practically handed that kid the weapon. What judge wouldn't hand her at least five years for negligence?

Sure, the movie has some forced situations and could have used more character development or an extra supporting role, but it's understandable that they couldn't fit everything in like they did in a series due to the runtime. Regardless, it's a great film, Sandra Bullock is fantastic, and Pavičić's headline is nothing more than a cheap vent from a writer who clearly specializes in mediocre crime stories.
It’s a solid movie, though I was really banking on some sort of massive plot twist at the end—something to really ramp up the complexity. SPOILER!
For instance, he could have just killed everyone off, called the police, or made a run for it... And why on earth wasn't he keeping a journal if he was so suspicious? He just swallows those pills like a good little soldier without question... Ugh, honestly, Hopkins' performance was the absolute highlight for me.
