Hi there!
I picked up an Office 2007 disc in American—even though I already have the English version installed—and tried to run the setup. It started off fine; it asked for my product key, which I entered without issue, but then everything just stalled halfway through. A window popped up asking me to select an installation path (showing my C: drive, D: drive, etc.), but no matter what I clicked, it wouldn't let me select a valid location... quite frustrating, really. Could this be happening because I haven't uninstalled the English version of Word yet? Or am I looking at a faulty disc or perhaps some weird glitch with my PC? Thanks for any help!
RN vs. MD: What's the real difference? in Health ·
I was wondering—just out of curiosity—what the typical salary looks like for a registered nurse versus a general practitioner? Since their years of schooling are essentially the same...

So, if I suspect I might have contracted chlamydia (sexually transmitted), does it matter whether I get an urethral swab or a cervical one?

Well—you just head over to your primary care physician, and they'll give you a referral to a gynecologist—who will then decide which specific tests they want you to undergo...
I finally got my lab results back, and I’m sitting here wondering what any of this actually means... because, naturally, there's zero explanation included in the report. So, here it is: IgE RIST IgE= 25,3 ku/l

Every time I take a bite, I get this sensation in my throat, like there's a literal lump stuck there. I end up having to wait about half an hour just for the food to actually make its way down to my stomach. The pain is honestly pretty awful—I can't help but wonder if it might be something with my thyroid... and to make matters worse, when I drink water, I have to tilt my head down just to swallow. It's quite a mess. I'm headed in for some blood work next week to figure this out.🙂

It could potentially be a thyroid issue—it’s actually fairly easy to check at home if you have someone helping you out. Just have them watch your neck while you tilt your head back slightly and swallow. If you notice a little bulge moving during the swallow, that usually points toward the thyroid being the culprit.
0.9% Saline Solution in Health ·
Sam Hall15 said:It’s pretty much the standard infusion solution you see everywhere—one of those crystalloids used primarily for volume replacement. It doesn't do anything for pain management; it's essentially just basic saline in a bag, isotonic with most of our body fluids (well, most, not all, obviously). You were given it to make up for the fluid and blood loss during surgery, plus whatever else you lose afterward—just like the rest of us.

Ahaaa... okay, awesome, thanks! I've actually wanted to ask about this for a while—I'm planning on heading to med school soon—but now I know it's basically the same thing as Rockefeller solution.....

Hey everyone—does anyone actually know why they give us 0.9% saline after surgery at the hospital? Is it some kind of pain reliever or something?

Spinal anesthesia: What's your experience? in Health ·

I wonder if you actually got a say in which type of anesthesia was used? Did they even bother asking you?

I honestly feel like everyone should have the chance to choose their own anesthesia, though obviously, you’d still need to follow what the anesthesiologist recommends. I mean, why would I ever agree to spinal anesthesia if it's something I really wanted to avoid? I guess I'm just speaking hypothetically here since I'm not facing any surgery anytime soon. But seriously, if someone like Janica Kostelić could have a choice in her medical options, why shouldn't other young people have that same right? Take that young handball player, for instance—I think he had to go under spinal anesthesia for his knee surgery. I actually watched an interview with him on TV earlier this year, and... I don't know, it just seemed like it wasn't such a great experience for him, having the surgery done that way.

Well, when I met with the anesthesiologist, we had a brief chat. He asked me a few questions, and based on our conversation and the lab results I brought in (blood work, etc.), he concluded that spinal anesthesia was the way to go for me. That said, some people might prefer general anesthesia—where you're actually asleep—but they might not be able to choose it if their test results aren't ideal. In those cases, certain types of anesthesia could actually be life-threatening for them. So, ultimately, the final call rests with the doctor.

Hey everyone, I could really use some advice—I'm dealing with some pretty nasty muscle pain in my right upper arm... does anyone happen to know of any good pain relievers for muscle aches? I have some Voltaren, Tylenol, Advil, and some Bengay gel lying around at home currently.

I had knee arthroscopy about a year ago—went under spinal anesthesia... didn't hurt a bit. The whole surgery was wrapped up in under an hour. Afterward, they had me resting for a bit, but by the very next day, I was already out in the halls using crutches, trying to walk as much as possible. I even managed to put some weight on that knee pretty quickly! I was discharged after just four days, followed by two rounds of two-week physical therapy sessions, and everything turned out great.
