There is some interesting chemistry involving the pullrod suspension, which allows for much tighter packaging of the engine and gearbox. This results in a superior aerodynamic profile, along with several other minor tweaks that McLaren seems to be constantly reporting to the FIA. It reminds me of how Red Bull had to alter their axle shapes and rear shock absorbers during the last race, or how they had to adjust the diffuser just before that. It feels like Adrian Newey has hit the mark here, much like he did with that McLaren car back in 2005, though the only downside is that it's being driven by these two idiots and, like most of Newey's designs, it's incredibly fragile.

Martin Whitmarsh mentioned that McLaren is bringing a fresh front wing to the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix, since their previous iteration didn't quite deliver the results they were looking for, even though the new rear wing worked out much better. They’ve also got a low downforce version of the rear wing ready, along with some diffuser tweaks, all of which should hopefully yield at least a few steps forward in performance.

I am consistently impressed by how NBC manages both the qualifying sessions and the race coverage so seamlessly. I’m personally bracing myself for a few celebratory drinks, at least four safety cars, and the inevitable heartbreak of seeing at least one McLaren mess up. Otherwise, this whole thing should be a cakewalk for them.
