My computer finally got back from the repair shop today, which means I’ve officially reached the stage where I need to start downloading all my word processing software again.
I was wondering if anyone here could give me some solid recommendations for programs that handle text editing and formatting well, specifically stuff I can just grab online. One of the guys on this forum already threw a few suggestions my way, but I’d really love to get a second opinion to see if there's a better way to go.

What is your actual goal here?
a) To end up with a document that looks identical to the original, with nothing but a specific section of text swapped out (where the edits are totally invisible)?
b) To simply get a document where the main purpose is just displaying the correct (modified) information?

The answer is actually incredibly straightforward—it’s exactly what you described in option a)
And yeah, it would definitely be ideal if the editing was seamless, though I suppose that isn't the absolute dealbreaker.

coppersailor28 said:Even though I'm not entirely sure what your workflow looks like—whether it's an image, an image paired with OCR, or just raw text—the bottom line is this: yes, it can be done.

Since we are dealing with a document dating all the way back to 1979, the image I mentioned is actually a flag, specifically the seal of a former republic.

coppersailor28 said:I honestly have no idea what kind of racket you've decided to get yourself into, especially when we're talking about forging documents and stuff like that. 🙏)

Look, we aren't even talking about document forgery here, so let's get that straight right off the bat. I could certainly sit down and walk you through the specifics of what actually happened, but if I’m being perfectly honest, I highly doubt any of you would find the whole ordeal particularly riveting since it involves nothing more than the kind of tedious, mundane details that would bore a saint. Not to mention, it would probably take me at least an hour of non-stop typing just to hammer out a coherent explanation of all those incredibly dull matters.

coppersailor28 said:I’m still a bit lost regarding the context of your first question—the one where you suggested "OCR" as the answer. If you’re under the impression that an OCR program actually "copies" something and then goes through the process of generating a custom font from scratch, you’ve got it wrong. In a best-case scenario, the software is simply scanning the characters and selecting the closest matching font from its existing library, much like how Adobe Acrobat handles things when it’s performing one of its better OCR tasks.

Alright, let's assume the actual shape of the font isn't going to be an issue here. But if I’ve actually managed to grasp what you're getting at, you're essentially saying it's totally doable to just snip out a specific chunk of text from one document and slap it right onto another, provided I understood your point correctly?
On top of everything else, I’m also trying to figure out how to move a specific image from one document over to another.

Thanks a million for all the answers!
There’s one specific thing I’m still chewing on.
Let’s say I have Document A and Document B.
If I scan both of them into my computer, I want to do this:
I’ll "cut" the last two lines from Document A and paste them directly into Document B.
Is that actually doable?
Now, I know some of you might suggest that I could just use my keyboard to type whatever is missing into Document B using Microsoft Word. But here’s the catch: I’m dealing with a very specific font style that I haven't been able to match with any of the standard fonts available in modern software. My plan was to simply cut those lines from one file and add them to the other before printing the whole thing out.
The issue is that these characters look exactly like the old-school typewriter print, so I highly doubt anything in the digital world today uses that exact same typeface.

So, here’s what I’m trying to figure out:
I recently picked up an all-in-one printer with a built-in scanner, and I was wondering if it’s actually possible to scan a document directly to my computer screen—basically, take some text from a physical piece of paper, run it through the scanner, and then pull that exact text into a word processor to format and edit everything before printing it back out?
I really hope I’ve made myself clear enough here, but if any part of that sounds a bit fuzzy, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to go into much greater detail to explain exactly what I'm looking for.

Donna Watson10 said:Man, I went through something almost identical once. Some psychiatrist put me on Lexapro + Xanax, and I had to choke those down for a month or two. By the end of it, I felt absolutely wiped out—just total exhaustion. Then a different doctor stepped in and told me straight up that the meds were way too intense for what I was actually dealing with. He basically said my condition was nowhere near as severe as the first guy thought it was. Honestly, word on the street was that the first psychiatrist was terrible at dialing in prescriptions; plenty of other patients had complained about the exact same thing.

I don't doubt that for a second. Doctors—especially psychiatrists—cut deals with Big Pharma where they agree to push only their specific brands to patients, and they do it in massive quantities, which allows the pharmaceutical companies to rake in enormous commissions that get kicked back to the doctors as pre-negotiated percentages.
That’s exactly why they end up being the wealthiest group of physicians out there, and it’s something major news outlets have even reported on recently, though it wasn't exactly a secret before then.
Sure, you still find some honest psychiatrists out there, but it’s incredibly difficult to tell who is actually looking out for you and who is just playing the game.
Because of all that, I tend to lean on that old saying it doesn't hurt to be overprepared.
As for how much that applies to this specific situation, I haven't quite figured it out yet, so we'll just have to see.

Seroxat is an antidepressant designed to help alleviate both depression and anxiety, though you should realize it typically takes more than a month to become fully effective. Until then, you might experience some side effects—things like insomnia, nausea, or headaches—but those usually subside within about ten days.
As for the Xanax, it was prescribed to provide immediate relief from your depressive symptoms and anxiety, so please follow your doctor's instructions exactly. There is no need to worry; your physician will gradually taper your Xanax dosage over time. It may also assist you with falling asleep.
There is no harm in taking them together; you won't experience any adverse reactions from the combination. You can evaluate how you feel during your next follow-up appointment.

Thanks so much for the reply!

restlesstrucker15 said:That’s right; you haven't been prescribed the heavy-duty stuff yet. This is just standard therapy—a slightly higher dose of Xanax, perhaps, but you're still in the very early stages of the process.

I'm really not sure about that. My primary care physician told me that my psychiatrist prescribed medication that was far too strong given my psychological state. Now I'm stuck wondering who's actually right. 🤷

Eric Mitchell55 said:No, no. That didn't come out right at all. I really wasn't trying to attack anyone, I was just speaking my mind.

I’m sorry, I phrased that poorly. 🙂

It's all good 😉

A few days ago, my doctor put me on a regimen consisting of 2 mg of Xanax and 20 mg of Effexor to tackle some depression and anxiety I've been dealing with.
I'm curious if anyone here has experience running both of these at the same time, specifically regarding how risky it is to combine them and what kind of side effects I should actually be bracing for.
Regarding side effects, I did bother to read through the official patient information leaflet that came in the box, but honestly, it mostly lists those rare, one-in-a-million occurrences, not to mention that several things my doctor warned me about weren't even mentioned in the fine print. So, if anyone out there has been on this specific combo, could you tell me which side effects actually pop up most frequently—if they happen at all—because my doctor clearly didn't have the patience to give me a detailed breakdown of how effective these are or what to expect.
Furthermore, is it even necessary for me to be using Xanax? From what I understand, it's a pretty heavy-duty medication typically reserved for the most severe cases, and I feel like I fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. I'm genuinely worried that taking something that potent might end up doing more harm than good.
I also really want to know how much these drugs actually help in terms of treating and managing depression and anxiety in the long run. Does anyone have any real-world experience with how well they work?
Movies starring Brendan Fraser in Movies ·
Does anyone happen to remember the title of that pirate flick starring Brendan Fraser?
I watched it ages ago and honestly, it’s such a fantastic movie.
The name has completely slipped my mind over the years, though I'm pretty sure it came out before 2004.

Anyone got any leads on what this movie is called?
Does anyone happen to know where I can pick up a decent boomerang or maybe a quality frisbee around here in the States?
I’ve been scouring the web for ages but haven't come across a single thing worth my time regarding this.

If anybody actually knows where to find some good gear, please, do me a solid and let me know!!!
How do you put an end to situations like this... in Psychology ·
I honestly feel like we need to step up police presence on the streets so that when some thugs decide they want to jump someone, the cops can spot the trouble brewing and shut it down instantly.
Or, alternatively, we should be handing out much harsher sentences to anyone caught beating someone up—say, twenty years behind bars—so that people who are even thinking about getting violent realize exactly what kind of prison time is waiting for them and just decide it isn't worth the risk.

Where on earth did you dig that up on Reddit?

I actually ran into that from two different users.
One goes by ''sister'' and I honestly can't recall the other one's name🤷.

Since I’m still pretty new here on Reddit, I was wondering if someone could clear something up for me regarding what it actually means when you see "N/A" listed next to certain users' profiles?😕😕😕
