I just got my referral for an abdominal ultrasound! According to the Medicare waiting list, Massachusetts General Hospital is taking orders for February 2019, with only a 4-day wait.

But then, I get an email from them scheduling me for February 2020. In this year
. Who even is running this place?! They update the list every single day, too.

And here is the official response I got from Massachusetts General Hospital:
Dear Patient,

The Social Security Administration has made abdominal ultrasound diagnostic scans available at the primary care level. Therefore, unless you are seeing a specialist or a consultant, these scans can also be performed in a family medicine office if the necessary equipment is available.
As such, we suggest that based on your primary physician's red referral or internal referral, you seek the prescribed healthcare services at any other medical facility that can provide the requested care and holds a contract with the Social Security Administration.

At our facility, these scans are reserved exclusively for oncology patients and children.

Honestly, I’m totally lost now. It’s my first time trying this online booking thing, and I already feel like someone is screwing me over and filming the whole thing with a hidden camera! 😵
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good GP in Chicago? I’m looking somewhere on the west side, maybe around Brooklyn or even near Lake Tahoe.

The main thing for me is digital communication—like, can they email test results? And can the doctor send a prescription straight to the pharmacy on the same day? (I deal with frequent bladder infections, so I really need to handle this stuff on the fly. I can't afford to sit in a waiting room for two hours just to get a simple prescription after a urine culture.)
Also, it would be huge if I could just call in to order referrals for those routine tests and then just swing by to pick them up.
Sandra Vaughn50 said:Ciprofloxacin is a solid choice for an antibiotic! Always works well for me. In the first lab results, they didn't even test the Enterococcus against Cipro, so I'm just assuming it's sensitive to it!

It’s just a standard, sensitive Enterococcus. Definitely not one of those nasty resistant strains like VRE—now that is a total nightmare for hospital doctors!

Both Enterococcus strains are probably just different versions of the same thing. But honestly, you can have different strains within the exact same species! So, one person could end up with two types of Enterococcus, two types of Pseudomonas, two types of Staph... you name it!
It’s the exact same bacteria! Just different levels of how they react to antibiotics.

Thanks so much for the reply!

It’s honestly so confusing! It feels like neither my GP nor my OBGYN actually knows what they're doing. Both of them were just like, "Oh, alright then, just take this and give it a shot." Such a weird vibe!

There’s just way too much "maybe" floating around here! I was hoping someone might have a more certain answer, but it seems pretty obvious we're dealing with that kind of bacteria where you basically just cycle through different antibiotics until one finally hits the mark and clears the inflammation.

😢

Edit:
I didn't realize that part was bolded! I just assumed if there wasn't an S, it wouldn't react to Ciprofloxacin. Thanks again—honestly, this isn't even such bad news then!
Got three different test results here!

1. Cervical swab checking for Enterococcus and E. coli
image

2. Cervical swab testing for Mycoplasma hominis

image

3. Urine culture for Enterococcus

image

Since I have a sensitivity chart for every single bacteria found, I was wondering if Citeral (Ciprofloxacin) is actually the best move here because :

a) based on result #1, the Enterococcus isn't sensitive to it at all

b) and according to the note in result #3, Ciprofloxacin is only meant for uncomplicated infections

I'm a female under 30, and I have a steady partner.
I'm already on my third antibiotic (first Nolicin, now Cephalexin) and honestly, I've been fighting these infections since winter! So, would it be smarter to pick an antibiotic that covers all three findings instead?

Also, how is it even possible that the exact same bacteria (Enterococcus) reacts to Ciprofloxacin in one test (urine culture) but doesn't react to it in the other (cervix)?

Thanks so much in advance for the help! 🙏

I didn't bother checking other shop sites! I bet they have similar stuff at similar prices. No point ordering unverified gear from eBay when we have such great options right here in the States. All these shuttles are perfect for casual play. Have you guys ever actually tried playing with feather ones?

Thanks for the reply! Most of those aren't even in stock right now, and they're only medium speed.

In the end, I went with these:

From what I've read on some American badminton forums, people compare them to the red Mavis 350s. So, it's definitely not true that you only find cheap Chinese junk on eBay!

We've kind of gotten hooked on the super fast plastic ones because we love a high-energy game.
We tried feathers once, but it just didn't feel the same after playing with the red plastics for two years! 🤷
I know everyone says they're better and that I should switch to them for the team...

Has anyone ordered shuttlecocks online or through eBay lately?
We usually go with those red plastic ones, but they seem way overpriced here—around $40 for a pack of six if I remember correctly, I think from Mavis.

Does anyone have some cheaper recommendations that actually hold up? We're just total amateurs, but we really don't want to play with those cheap, flimsy ones you get in those starter sets with the rackets $6.75 😬

Frank Martin2 said:Anyway... if we're really going to be grammar police about the American language here, I should point out that "Dalmatian" needs to be capitalized.

😎

Yeah, true, you definitely capitalize it...I’ll admit, I don't pay much attention to caps lock myself. But can we please move on from spelling? 😉

Funny phrases: honestly, any word from another language that we try to force into American grammar sounds weird to me.
Like how someone might call a nude-colored lacquer a "nuder"? It just feels off!
Or saying you're "on Facebook"...
It’s not that the meaning is strange, it’s just the way the words sound together.

And since we were talking about childhood games and rhymes, the weirdest one for me was always "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe..."

Lately, I can't get my pictures to show up on the forum the usual way. I try going over to Imgur to grab the link, but it just isn't working.
Is anyone else dealing with this? What gives?
Every time I try, my reply just shows up totally blank.

Now I have to download the image to my PC, upload it again through Imgur, and then hope it works. It’s such a massive pain when I'm just trying to post a quick photo from a website!

Any tips? Help!

Frank Martin2 said:My mind is just racing since I'm out of work right now 😛 and this random question popped into my head: why is it that kids (and adults too!) usually shout "Three, four, go!" when they're starting a race?

Why specifically "three, four," and not, say, "one, two" or "four, five"... where did that come from??

BTW, I recently read what that old nursery rhyme means (I guess only people over 35 remember it!): the one kids usually chant like "Emma, Emma S-S-S-P-P-P."

It’s actually just a totally garbled way of spelling out the American river MISSISSIPPI (you know—M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I).

Supposedly, some American pilots who were in contact with the resistance during the end of WWII introduced that rhyme to kids around here.

Well... supposedly... 🤷

Other weird expressions: "utrkivaju"...
Are you maybe a Dalmatian? I know plenty of them who talk like that.
The word is "utrkuju."
They say things like "zapitkuju," "potrkuju," "pojavljuju": 😂

Oh, thanks for explaining, but that’s not quite what I meant... 🤦

I was actually talking about Kegel exercises... 😬
I can't stop peeing! in Health ·
Nope, first time I'm hearing about that! Honestly, I'm running around like crazy right now so I don't have a second to Google it—I'll check later—but could you give me the quick rundown on what it actually is?

Kevin Garcia12 said:Mechanical friction during sex can actually trigger cystitis even without any bacterial contamination, bringing on all those same annoying symptoms you’d usually expect...

Hmm, well, that’s just how I’ve been since forever...
Everywhere you read online, they say cystitis gets worse—it starts stinging, then hurts, and eventually turns into a total nightmare with blood or kidney pain—but I’ve checked everything down there several times in my life and my tests always come back perfectly fine!
I can't stop peeing! in Health ·
Ugh, so basically just shut up and deal with it, right? That’s the only way. 😢
It’s not like it’s ruining my entire life or anything, I’ve just gotten used to it. But honestly, during the night, I barely even wake up when I have to run to the bathroom. I can talk to my roommate or my mom while it's happening, but once morning hits, I don't remember a thing... 😁

Lately, though, my girlfriends have been totally on my case! They're like, "Girl, what is wrong with you? This isn't normal!" They kept telling me I need to see a doctor, try bladder training, or check if something is actually broken. They really spooked me, 🤷

Plus, there’s this other annoying issue. If I really have to pee, I can't enjoy sex at all because I feel like I'm going to leak mid-act... which means I always have to go to the bathroom beforehand. But if I accidentally grab a coffee or some tea first? It means we have to stop everything for a second so I can dash to the restroom, then get back to it. Trust me, it gets exhausting... 😢 😢

Anyone else? 😲

Seriously, please tell me I'm not the only one dealing with this... 😢
I can't stop peeing! in Health ·
I've dealt with bladder infections a few times before, and after taking some Cystex, things cleared right up—so medically speaking, I think I'm in the clear. But honestly? My bladder is just acting totally unpredictable lately, and I could really use some advice from anyone who's been through something similar! 😕

I try my best to stay hydrated, so obviously I'm hitting the restroom way more than everyone else. But get this: when I'm out grabbing drinks with my girlfriends, we all drink about the same amount, yet I’m running to the bathroom literally five times as often! By the second round of beers, I’m basically living in the stall while they pass me another drink through the door 😁

Or here's another thing. I won't touch any liquids for at least an hour before bed, and I try everything to stay relaxed in the evening. I go right before putting on my pajamas. Then I go one more time right as I'm drifting off, just hoping it keeps me asleep. Nope! It still wakes me up mid-night. And then in the morning, I can barely make it to the bathroom, and sometimes even 😠 jolts me awake an hour before my alarm goes off.

Some people have suggested "bladder training." Does that actually work? Or does anyone know any other tricks or techniques? Any advice or experiences you can share? Help!

It’s getting so frustrating—I can’t even finish half a bottle of water on a long road trip without feeling like I'll be forcing our driver to pull over onto the shoulder every thirty minutes... 🙄
Meta archiving in Miscellaneous ·
Honestly, I don't really get the whole Meta thing. I’m only on there because my college sends out notifications about campus events or parties.

It feels like pure insecurity to me. When people feel ignored by the world, they try to force themselves into the spotlight with these super cringey statuses and random photos just to be noticed.

And don't even get me started on those "lovey-dovey" posts and couple selfies. It makes me nauseous. Just go hang out in private and deal with it instead of making everyone else aware of how thirsty and desperate you are... 🤣

Also—if someone like Taylor Swift has a profile, why is her picture always some shot of her clinging to her boyfriend? Yeah, sure, you're together, but you aren't literally the same person. Use a solo photo and show that you're actually an individual... ☕
