Or you could look at alternatives to America where things definitely aren't "flowing with milk and honey"—I'm talking places like Barbados, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic... just a whole bunch of other tropical islands, you know? Hmm, maybe even Hawaii.

But honestly, you’d never actually enjoy it there as much as you do here. 😘

I feel you, but you don't actually think things are all honey and milk in other countries, do you?
That would be a pretty massive delusion, wouldn't it? 🤷
I just want to be able to give my kid the absolute best when the time comes. 😁
What is Jouissance? in Psychology ·
Jacob Newman77 said:So, what exactly is Jouissance?

"Jouissance is essentially 'pleasure in pain.' It refers to that paradoxical satisfaction triggered by a painful encounter with the Thing—something that disrupts the equilibrium of the established pleasure principle."

How am I supposed to make sense of that??

My boyfriend tried to break it down for me: he said it’s like how I enjoy being with him, yet I’m constantly questioning if I actually deserve all this happiness—that's Jouissance, finding a weird sort of satisfaction in not fully letting yourself enjoy things. Is he actually onto something here??

If that's the case, then I guess I'm the freaking queen of this phenomenon. I can't just relax and enjoy anything anymore without constant anxiety creeping in.
Like, I'll buy some Hershey's chocolate and immediately start feeling guilty for buying it.
Or I'll sit down to watch a movie—I love movies—and suddenly I'm thinking about how boring it is, whereas before I would've just sat through it regardless.
I used to love photography, but now I'll start taking pictures and just feel disgusted by them.
I'll make myself a cappuccino and then just drink it without any actual enjoyment.
Or maybe I'm totally missing the point? 😕
Of course I would!

Plus, I’d love to see what it’s actually like to be Black, a Kiinez, Native American, Indian, the Queen, Madonna, Bill Gates, or George Lucas... maybe try one every three months, just to see. 😁
Just curious, I guess.
