Don't even get me started on that referee. It was wild watching the game on German TV; even the commentators over there couldn't believe what they were seeing unfolding on the court.
Honestly, I’d love to see us face off against the Americans. Their goalie is incredible, and they really have the edge on the fast break... but with officiating like this, I feel like I just wasted my entire evening. At least I managed to finish a couple of beers.
Well, this is what happens when I skim the first two pages of the forum and realize there's absolutely no way this thread is buried deeper somewhere else..
Maybe some well-meaning moderator will eventually decide to merge them all into one 🙂
...it’s basically like getting two movies for the price of one!
I honestly get the feeling the director passed away halfway through production, forcing them to grab someone else to step in and finish the job using their own ideas...
But look, being totally honest here, it isn't a bad movie. It just hurts because it had so much potential to be great, and it missed the mark slightly.
The setting is the near future. Humanity is facing extinction because the Sun is dying. As the light and heat fade away, the entire Earth gets swallowed by ice and snow.
Humanity's last shot is a spacecraft called Icarus II. They have a crew of eight astronauts and a massive bomb—think Manhattan Project scale—designed to jumpstart the Sun back to life.
It sounds ridiculous. You expect Bruce Willis to be in there trying to restart the Sun with his bare teeth... but surprisingly, despite the premise, the movie feels grounded and builds a fantastic atmosphere. The opening actually feels very much like 2001: A Space Odyssey.
However, the pacing shifts abruptly once the Icarus II crew picks up a signal from the predecessor, Icarus Part I. The first half is a pure odyssey, then it pivots into a thriller, and by the end, it turns into some weird, newly-invented sci-fi horror that’s only missing Vin Diesel.
It's worth watching just for that first act and for Cillian Murphy, who is excellent. Maybe they were just trying to please everyone—giving the Fast and Furious fans some action at the end after they probably got bored during the first half. 🙂
Here's another vote for Spike from Cowboy Bebop!
And Captain Harlock from Arcadia too.🙂
It’s definitely worth looking for. It’s a low-budget production that honestly feels like something shot back in the 40s or 50s. Even though the reviews were glowing, I can't help but wonder how much of it is autobiographical given where the director comes from. He probably dealt with some very similar struggles.
A buddy and I walked out of the theater completely stunned. I really wasn't expecting 🙂
Hahahha, man, Borat is a legend. Where on earth did you dig up those photos? 🙂
Gele Babluanija's debut film is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. Reading all this talk about film noir and Bricko really brought this masterpiece back to mind. You can probably still track down a copy on DVD or VHS these days if you look hard enough.
Shot entirely in black and white, the story follows a young immigrant who gets pulled into a bizarre, unexpected game. It also offers a raw look at the lives of immigrants living on the fringes of American society.
It’s hard to say much about the actual plot without giving too much away, but if you're a fan of film noir, this is a must-watch. 😁
