I was wondering if there’s actually a way to put a password on a specific folder within Windows 7... say I create a folder right on my desktop and toss a few files in there, and then when I go to click it to open everything up, it would prompt me to enter a password first before letting me see what's inside.
I was wondering how you all actually figure out if two different profiles belong to the same person... like, can you really tell for sure that user A and user B are just one individual? And specifically regarding this girl we were talking about, how do you distinguish between a situation where she’s using both accounts and one where it’s actually her and her boyfriend using them separately? I'm curious what kind of process you use to verify that sort of thing...
Sorry if I'm being a bit inquisitive with all these questions, it's just something that's been on my mind lately 😉

What I meant was more about using one profile to comment on one specific discussion, and then using another account to chime in on a completely different conversation, where the two topics don't even overlap, except for the fact that they happen to be sitting under the same umbrella thread, most likely some kind of massive collection topic...

I didn't want to start an entirely new thread just to ask this, so I thought I'd check in here instead...
Just to be clear right off the bat, I don't actually have a second profile on this site yet, but I was wondering about the rules if I were to make one... Like, would I be able to comment on the same thread using both accounts? I don't mean anything sneaky like chatting with myself, but more along the lines of those big community threads where everyone posts their own individual issues or questions... If I posted something a long time ago with this current account, would it be okay to jump back into that same thread with a new account, provided we're talking about something completely different that has nothing to do with my previous post...

Oh man, I actually found the fix 👋 so I figured I'd post it here just in case anyone else runs into this exact same headache... Basically, my mouse stopped working properly, so I switched it over to a USB connection, and ever since then, my Windows machine just refuses to go into sleep mode... I was poking around online for a bit and stumbled upon this solution:
It’s possible that a piece of hardware is keeping your computer awake. Usually, things like USB flash drives or USB mice are the main culprits that wake a system up unexpectedly. You might want to check if you have the latest driver versions installed for all your peripherals. You can find more details under the Driver Update section: recommended links. Preventing devices from waking your computer
Open the Device Manager by clicking the Start button, then head over to the Control Panel, select System and Security, and from within the System options, click on Device Manager. You'll need administrator permissions for this—so if a prompt pops up asking for an admin password or confirmation, just go ahead and enter it or approve it.
Find the specific hardware category for the device you want to stop from waking the PC and double-click its name.
Under the Power Management tab, simply uncheck the box that says "Allow this device to wake the computer."
Noah Sanchez39 said:@ Alex Barnes4 If you head into the advanced settings for that custom power plan, you should be able to find the option to "Require a password on wakeup" and just set it to "No"...
But then it just kicks back on, and instead of showing me the log off screen, it just drops me right back into Windows immediately, almost like I didn't even do anything at all... I think I'll just wait until I have a bit of free time to run a deep scan using every single antivirus tool I've got installed, and maybe then I'll see if things settle down... because I haven't touched any of those settings myself, yet this issue just popped up out of nowhere...
Noah Sanchez39 said:@ Alex Barnes4 Did you end up unchecking that box for "On resume, display logon screen"? I can't quite remember what the exact wording was on my version of the OS...
Yeah, I did... though if I recall correctly, I don't think I ever had that box checked in the first place...
1. Right-click on your desktop, go to Personalize, then click on Screen Saver down at the bottom right, and uncheck the box that says "On resume, display logon screen"... once you've done that, you'll see an option for "Change power settings" just below it, which takes you to "Change plan settings," and from there you can get into "Change advanced power settings" where you should look under the Sleep section for "Allow wake timers" and make sure to Disable them.
I managed to find my way over to those settings, but I’m honestly feeling a bit lost on what else I should be tweaking here... if you could just take a peek at how everything is set up on my end... http://i54.tinypic.com/hva3af.jpg It used to be that whenever I set everything to sleep, things worked perfectly fine, and even if I waited about two hours and manually triggered sleep mode, it would stay put, but now, every single time I try to put the computer to sleep, it just immediately wakes itself back up and throws that log off screen right in my face...
Also, I was wondering, does anyone actually know the real difference between sleep mode and hibernation??
I’ve run into two different headaches lately: 1. Every time I try to put my computer into sleep mode, things get weird... the screen goes dark, it looks like the system is about to shut down completely, but then immediately something triggers a wake-up, and I end up staring at the log-off screen instead. It's like the sleep mode just won't stick anymore, no matter what I do...
2. Then there's the issue with my messaging app: I set my status to appear offline, but the second I open up my Outlook inbox, it flips right back to being online. I have no idea why it keeps doing that... plus, I've noticed some spam emails are being sent out from my account to my friends without me doing anything...
I’m pretty sure it’s some kind of virus, but my security software isn't catching anything... I tried running ESET, then I installed Avira, which actually flagged two Trojans, but honestly, it didn't fix the actual problem, and I even ran scans with Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes too, but still nothing has changed...
What would you all recommend I do to get this sorted out?
Taylor Morales31 said:It’s just a command line thing, though if you type it straight into the search bar or use cmd, it should find it just fine...
well, if you want to use the run command, just type it into the search and hit enter👍
oh, thanks... but I wasn't actually looking for the cmd itself, I was trying to write out a little function using shutdown -s -t ... and I actually managed to get that part working perfectly🙂)
I was trying to remember where they tucked away that "Run" command in Windows 7... you know, the one where you can just type in cmd and have the command prompt pop right up... I remember back when I was using XP, it was sitting right there in the Start menu, but I can't seem to track it down here, and since my system is still set to American English, I'm having a bit of a hard time navigating through the menus...
Does anyone happen to know where I might be able to track down the music that pops up during video games? For instance, when you're playing something like Grand Theft Auto and you turn on the radio, there's just this massive selection of tracks playing... so I was wondering if there's a way to actually find those specific audio files hidden somewhere within the game folders.
ps: I'm posting this here since I'm running Windows 7, though I suppose that probably doesn't matter much, and I didn't really want to start an entirely new thread just to ask one quick question...
dustypuma5 said:Honestly, this whole topic feels a bit out of touch with the 21st century, especially since most of us living in America have bathrooms with heaters and endless hot water readily available, plus you can find pretty much any scent of soap you want at a CVS or Walgreens, from lavender to sandalwood... so I guess it’s not that surprising if someone felt the question was a little weird and decided to just lock the thread away. 😁
Hmm, but then again, a few people actually did chime in saying they only shower once a week, even though we're living in modern times... and besides, there are folks who might not have reliable access to things, or maybe they just don't have the extra cash to throw away on daily necessities—not that I'm talking about myself, of course—so they aren't showering every single day, and then there are just the lazy types, people I definitely know, who really can't be bothered to get in the shower very often and end up doing it maybe once a week... regardless of how silly the topic might seem, people were still voting for all four options while the thread was actually open... I really don't think the poll itself was an issue, since I didn't even include an option like 'once a month,' opting instead for 'once a week' as the lowest frequency, so I'm struggling to see a solid reason why the thread had to be shut down...
So, once more, I'd love for whoever decided to close the discussion to please provide a bit of an explanation as to why it happened... thanks!
Why is everyone just leaving me hanging here? I honestly can't figure out where I went wrong... and I have to say, it feels pretty disrespectful that the moderators and the site admins have been completely ghosting me for two whole days now. Is it really too much to ask for someone to spare just two minutes of their time to give me a response? Or maybe I'm just being dense and making some silly, minor mistake without even realizing it... please, if anyone could just shed some light on this for me...
So... I went ahead and launched a poll yesterday evening: and then I come back today only to find the whole thing has been shut down. No explanation, no nothing... I actually tried reaching out to one of the moderators via private message to see what was up, but I haven't heard a single word back yet. I’m honestly scratching my head here because I really can't figure out what I did wrong, as I don't see any issues with how the poll was set up at all. I'd really appreciate it if whoever decided to close the thread could just let me know why...
Lately, I’ve been noticing that I swear way too much, and honestly, I really want to tone it down a bit... I make sure never to curse in front of my parents because I don't want them getting on my case, and I do the same thing with my teachers—though, if I'm being totally honest, during a quiet study period, I might mutter something under my breath about some instructor to a classmate... you know how it goes... When I'm hanging out with girls, I try my best to keep it clean, but sometimes a word just slips out, damn... but that isn't even the biggest issue. The real struggle happens when I'm in class trying to focus and someone keeps distracting me... that's just one example, but then the swearing starts, and it feels like every other word out of my mouth is some heavy profanity or an insult directed at everyone and everything... It just doesn't feel right, I guess. Or even when I'm just home by myself, talking to myself or playing some video games alone... it's like every second word becomes a curse word... And yeah... I would never dream of cursing God, Jesus, or any of the saints...
I just don't really know how to break the habit. It's become such a reflex at this point, and I'm constantly worried that my parents or my teachers might overhear me... Can anyone give me some advice on how to stop?div>

I don't really find much on there most of the time, you know... like if I try searching for a specific song title, it just comes up empty... and honestly, since I keep pretty much everything on my D drive, that might be exactly where the issue lies...
I was just sitting here wondering where on earth they tucked away that file search tool in Windows 7... you know, the one where you can just type in a specific term and it pulls up every single file and folder with that name, kind of like how Windows XP used to make it so simple with that "search files and folders" option right there in the Start menu...
