Mark Lewis4 said:What possible connection could an actor have to the overall impression of a film? Do people actually watch movies just for the actors? It’s not as if anyone is rushing to a video rental store just to borrow a movie where Justin Timberlake pops up for a mere 34 seconds.

If Jowan would let me step in and answer this on his behalf (and he would, wouldn't he, 😬?)...

Setting aside Justin Timberlake and how striking he looks in the "four minutes" music video, the idea that an actor's presence dictates film quality has nothing to do with those hypothetical video renters. The point is that Fraser is an actor with a very specific niche that defines his career. Most of his roles follow a pattern—he plays these slightly bewildered, yet quite intelligent, albeit eccentric individuals who stumble into various predicaments, much to the delight of anyone looking for a lighthearted comedy. His characters essentially provide their own comic relief. Therefore, one can reasonably expect a certain level of predictability based on his previous work.

And to be perfectly honest, yes, I do occasionally choose a film based on the cast. If Jack Nicholson is in it, I generally assume the film will be of high caliber.

Casting is a direct reflection of a film's quality. While there are certainly exceptions, when I am selecting what to watch, I rely on actors whose track record suggests they don't make poor choices regarding the projects they join.

But wouldn't you agree that being pale makes sense in this context? Why shouldn't he be?

Is there anything else new that I haven't heard yet?

OT: I sincerely hope they keep the same roster moving forward.🙂

It’s actually quite excellent. You really ought to reconsider your stance there. 😁

Is there any summary of The Italian Job more perfect than this one?

Thanks for everything, FOX. 👍

Do Re Mi! What an absolute classic; my niece is obsessed with it. It was practically made for little girls and those with a witch's soul. 😬

But in all seriousness, I learned most of my German from watching FOX. Now, I'm actually studying it in college. 😁

Get started.

(this is DBZ; there is still one more season before 🙂)

Well, I'll be. And here I was watching it on YouTube last night. (My DVD collection is currently out on loan, so I have to make do with what I can find.)

Keith Sanders9 As stated by:
So, are you planning on marrying me? :-p :-p

What is your current standing regarding real estate? Personally, I can't help but think that even a luxury yacht wouldn't be a bad investment. ☕

Keith Sanders9 said:Wanna marry me? :-p :-p

But seriously...
The movie feels like it's just Piccolo vs. Goku to me. Then there's the next one (I heard they're planning three), likely Vegeta and Goku, and finally some god knows what—probably Frieza, because anything after that gets ridiculous, like the whole universe just blowing up, especially in GT.

By the way... they only made GT because fans wanted a "sequel," and then they just messed it up. Even the ending was pathetic; Goku merges with the Dragon Balls and leaves with the dragon? Like, wtf...
>.>

Anyway, I admire this girl. 🙂
Can I ask you something? Do you still watch any other anime? 🙂

Honestly, GT just doesn't hold a candle to the rest. When I really sit down and weigh my options, I’d have to say DBZ is my absolute favorite—it is, without question, the gold standard.

From what I have gathered, the film will focus on Goku vs Piccolo, though likely only during the opening act. I am currently unable to locate the specific page to provide a direct quote—this internet connection is being particularly stubborn—but I am fairly certain I read somewhere that Piccolo undergoes a change of heart during this movie. If he shifts his allegiance, one has to wonder: who exactly would be left for them to fight? 🤷

My inbox is wide open, so feel free to send anything my way. I’ve watched just about everything in the anime world, but lately, I’ve been revisiting some old favorites while attempting to make headway through Naruto. Between work and everything else on my plate, finding the time is proving to be quite the challenge.

bluebison8 said:Men, did you actually give us the plot for the series or the movie?
Does this even sound like the show? In my experience, movies rarely stick to the original storyline. Besides, this looks more like a Dragonball Z plot summary than one based on Dragonball.

This isn't actually a movie based on Dragonball Z. You can see that just by watching a single episode from each story arc. According to this excerpt from the manga article on Wikipedia:

Does one truly understand the progression of this saga? Dragon Ball chronicles Goku's formative adventures from his childhood through his eventual marriage—an era defined largely by its heavy infusion of fantasy and humor. Then, we have the Dragon Ball Z plot summary, which picks up the narrative five years after the conclusion of the original series, introducing us to Goku's young son and a much more formidable adversary. Finally, there is the Dragon Ball GT plot summary; while it serves as the sequel to Dragon Ball Z, one must remember it isn't actually based on the original manga by Toriyama.

What is the most significant distinction? In Dragon Ball Z, Goku has a son, and we follow the majority of his adventures.

He doesn't quite look the part to me, but whatever. I’ll probably end up liking Vegeta better anyway. At least I get to meet a girl who actually grew up watching Dragon Ball. 🙂

Of course he doesn't look the part; if he were actually a Japanese man, wouldn't he? 😛

I can recite most of the episodes from memory. 😬 Before they even made their way onto our local networks—though if I recall correctly, we only ever caught Dragonball—I had already binged everything on the German RTL2. 😁

Ryan Wilson2 said:I am a fanatic.

It has potential, I suppose, but the trailers strike me as being far too somber. It appears they intend to bypass the comedic essence of Goku’s personality, much less the sexual fantasies of his mentor. 😁

Well, I have watched every single installment of Dragon Ball live as well. But then again, not everyone is quite so dedicated.

Hmm... Still, the boy playing Goku possesses a certain level of naivety regarding... well, everything. Much like the actual Goku. 😁

Since you decided to kick off a thread about the new movie, perhaps you could make an effort to explain the premise to those of us who aren't die-hard fans or haven't seen Transformers? A few stills from the upcoming film wouldn't hurt, nor would a brief synopsis of the plot. ☕
Benjamin Hernandez37 said:It’s obvious you’ve never stepped foot at Oktoberfest... even Darwin would have steered clear of that place. Believe me, there are such things as "female trees"... just come next year and you’ll discover yours, along with all the errors in your social studies textbooks.

Well, I was there, but I certainly never noticed any "female trees"... nor male ones, for that matter. Though, given my state of mind at the time, one has to wonder if I could actually see trees at all. Or anything else, really.
Benjamin Hernandez37 said:You can find a punk rocker, you can find a female dog (if we're being politically correct), you can find a female cat, you could even find a female tree... so just pick whatever you fancy, or perhaps a little bit of everything, since the festival lasts two whole days anyway.😁

A female tree? Since when do trees have a gender? *frantically searching through a biology textbook*

nimblemarlin6 said:I’d much rather sit through a decent creature feature about a giant monster eating people than suffer through something like "to want blood." 😁

Ah, fair enough then. I suppose it might have been more enjoyable if I were actually a fan of those kinds of movies. But I’m simply not. 😬

nimblemarlin6 said:I was actually planning on heading back to the theater to catch "horror from the rivers" again, but then I saw the news—it’s no longer playing.
Where is the world heading when so few people bother to see an excellent film, especially one featuring a massive crocodile?
It is quite disheartening; out of all the films I have watched recently—ranging from seeing "Dark Knight" on the big screen to watching "to want blood" on Blu-ray—"horror from the rivers" remains the absolute best.

I haven't seen "X-Men," but good heavens... better than "to want blood"? To my mind, "to want blood" is nothing short of masterful. How could anything possibly top that?

briskbison41 said:Ugh🤣...that's a pretty weak excuse for quoting someone.😁😉
(😍)

The Dragoness is great because she's played by Rachel Weisz🤣 and the effects are solid (like that shadow dragon).

And honestly, Eragon just can't be compared to LOTR.🙂

Well, at least it's true. 😁

Ahhh, Rachel Weisz's voice was absolutely perfect for the Dragoness.

No, but that wasn't quite my point. I am merely saddened that studios have realized Fantasy is a gold mine because it drags hordes of children into theaters, leading them to believe that quality is no longer a priority. I had genuinely hoped things might shift after the magnificent Lord of the Rings adaptations, but clearly, I was mistaken.
Eragon in Movies ·
briskbison41 said:Why is it so much easier to answer?🤔

I actually thought Eragon was pretty decent. To be honest, the special effects were solid, and the story held up well enough for me.
Of course, it's me.🙂)

Well, the Quote button was just closer to reach—I didn't have to scroll all the way up. 😛

The story is much better in the book; here, the acting felt like a total disaster to me. The special effects were decent, though—that Dragoness is wonderful. 😁

Perhaps it’s simply because, after experiencing those incredible Lord of the Rings adaptations, I was expecting something much more substantial. 🤷

briskbison41 said:Then you should have typed Eldest. (Not Elden)

I didn't even realize there was a sequel that had been filmed.

It was actually much easier to reply to your post; I knew she was in the wrong. 🙂

Has it even been filmed? I haven't the slightest clue. Honestly, after the absolute disaster that was the first one, I have zero desire to sit through a sequel.

briskbison41 said:I heard they're actually working on both parts two and three, but I haven't found anything listed under the name Elden.🤷

Well, the second book is actually titled Eldest, so if you were searching under "Elden," you weren't going to find anything at all. 🙂

To be perfectly honest, the movie was a total dud. It just didn't work. The book is certainly better, though let’s be realistic—it isn't exactly a literary masterpiece either. ☕

Zachary Kern69 said:So, we're looking at a man-eating alligator that, somewhere around puberty, decides to pack its bags, grab its belongings, and move in close to the suburbs because a teenage whim to taste human flesh somehow evolves into a full-blown career choice?😁

Exactly! That is precisely what I was thinking. 😬

Meanwhile, the parents back in the Everglades are mourning their only son; Mom Alligator blames Dad Alligator, and they end up filing for divorce. Irreconcilable differences. Or something to that effect. 😛
